Alright, so I finally got my new DSM to a point where I am happy mechanically, (for now anyway), so this weekend I moved onto appearance. The car is a 1991 GSX Auto, about 83,000mi, original paint. I spent the whole weekend washing, clay barring, polishing, and waxing. This was the final result. My wife took the pics. The only photoshopping done was for contrast, and some special effects which you will notice regarding the surroundings, but as for the car, what you see is what it really is. It's not perfect, a few dings and such, but if you were to see this car in a parking lot, this is what it would look like. BTW, any CONSTRUCTIVE criticism is welcome. Enjoy.

That DSM looks awesome, two questions though, what are those wheels and how did you mount your license plate like that?

The wheels are some old 16" Enkei RS5's.

The way I mounted the license plate was with an adjustable license plate mount from autozone, and two thin piece of stock steel bar from home depot. There are threaded bungs on the underside of my intercooler, so I bolted on end of each piece of steel to the IC then bolted the other ends to the adjustable mount for the LP. Not the prettiest thing in the world, but it works, and I was NOT going to try something different and cut up the front bumper.

Those wheels looks pretty sweet, The front plate mounting is pretty clever. DSM's don't really seem like they were designed with having a front plate on the car, tends to ruin the looks, do the police give you any trouble with the plate mounted like that?

Haven't been pulled over yet with it. I have been pulled over for not having a front plate on before though, so I just keep it on and deal with the ugliness because I am not trying to get pulled over every weekend for not having one.

Looks horrible, you should sell it to me. LOL jk

Very clean, I always want a black 1ga eclipse with me white 2gb talon. And a 2gb grey laser with red interior.

How is your hood? My original paint has those heat "chicken feet print marks" on it.

Congrats, car looks great. Only thing I would object to is the Talon centerpiece with the eclipse tail lights. I would go with a debadged talon center and talon taillights, they have cleaner lines in my opinion. But again, great clean looking car (and one I've been looking for quite some time now).

The hood has some light scratching, so of which polished out, and some minor chips taken out (same as the headlight covers), but you need to be up close to see them. At the distance the pics were taken from the car, or if you were walking by the car in a parking lot or something, you wouldn't see them.

The paint is far from perfect, but what can one expect from a 22yr old car that probably never had a proper detailing it's whole life. For what it is, I am really happy with how it turned out. There are some scratches that are just too deep to get out without doing a whole proper paint/detailing job, but I am fine with that because you have to be close to see them, and I don't have $10k to drop on a proper paint job. There are DSM's that could use a paint job more than mine, so I am content with what I have for now.

I feel ya, I was wondering if you had the same issues. I bought the car and it was like that, it has the foil shield under the hood with only 92k miles. SO I don't see exactly how it happened but it is 20 yr old paint as well. I like my original paint too, all these little marks add character. I'll rock it till it gets terrible. I could never paint it without getting all the bumper and skirt stickers EXACT. I also have the little "dsm stickers" all over the door jams/hatch etc.

Yeah, this care has the foil insulation under the hood, and all the original stickers are in good condition.

I am going to rock the original paint for the time being as it's only got a few issues, and I am actually proud to have it look as good as it does considering it's age.
