You have to cut the hole for the UIP as far outwards and forward as possible to get the SMIC to fit in a good spot.

Thanks Aaron so you cut it right next to the linkage to the flip up?? Mine is cut about kitty corner to the linkage. Is your UICP hose connected on top of the body or in the hole. Either way I tried to find a happy medium but when I went high with it there was no room to connect the bottom hose.

My UIP connected right about at the line of the sheet metal. Just cut the hell outta it LOL, that sheet metal isn't doing anything. I believe I ran the LIP around the tow hook.

Cool!!!!! I did cut the hell out of it just the wrong way. I cut more back and to the side insted of foward. I was also trying to fit the premade hose from the Dejon tool UIP. Does your LIP look like a "S" going into the intercooler going around the hook? The last elbow is what I'm lacking to mate my Dejon tool LIP to the cooler. If your's does "S" them that was my ONLY concern left with the whole project was if that "S" would stop flow. :thumb:

Those are the two pipes I made. The rubber one went under the crossmember and the metal pipe one over it. Don't worry about a bend impeding flow - most FMIC kits have a lot of 180 bends in them. In the long run it doesn't affect anything. Just make sure that your bend follows the curve into the MKIV SMIC inlet well, otherwise it's suceptible to blowing out.

Ok I see what you did. I already have 1 rubber elbow coming from the Supra inlet and all i'm lacking is a Mandral bent steel elbow to attach to the first elbow and the other side will go to the lower IC pipe. I'm picking up the steel elbow this week. Hopefully have it on next weekend. thanks for the pics.

im looking into doin the supra smic myself... where did u find the elbows and what r they made out of? from all of the replys it doesnt sound like this will b too bad of an install if i take my time.
:talon:

this all bring's back fun memories. make sure you flare your pipes and use t-bolt clamps or you will be blowing i/c pipes off every other run. also, on your couplings use hair spray before you put them on. it helps the pipe stick better. mine heat soaks with my frank 2 after 2 runs or so. i'm going front mount. good luck, and enjoy those bloody nuckles.

Boost you can get the rubber elbows from a auto parts store. I had to get a steel mandrel bent elbow to finish my project. Getting it tomorrow so the project should be done this weekend.

Boost just take your time and have a dremal tool or die grinder handy because you'll need it. I did all the pre work setting everything up thinking I had everything I needed and I still was missing an elbow so give yourself plenty of time and have help I did it by my self.

***UPDATE****

Finished installing the Supra side mount Saturday. The rest of the project wasn't pretty, thought I just needed to slap the elbow on and I was done. NOT!!!!!!!! Had more problems lining everthing up and had to shorten the Dejon tool lower intercooling piping. After all is said and done it looks and performs great. It sits lower then stock so I put a few 3/4 inch holes on the bottom of the flap to let the air escape faster but other then that it looks stock.
Performance wise it pulls much harder all the way to 6500. They said it dynoed 20 hp over the stock IC well I can see it pretty easy above 4000. I pretty happy with the results but I would never do it again it was a nightmare by my self.
Anybody needing help I know what to do and what not to do.

I have a Dejon tool side mount for sale in great condition with 2 1/4 inlet and out let for sale $100 shipped

Anyone selling a supra side mount???? I now want to do it since I can read the results from Pat D Dude How does it feel travelling at distance, I dont have the shield from the IC and Am about to remove the Fog lights since Theres something not working right. Keeping in mine that it is beeing set for AutoCrossing I think a Supra Side Mount would leave my car as it if it was still stock ;) Thanks this is cool I can still run same class. Seriously where can I find a Supra Side Mount I have checked my local Savage Yards and they claim not to have but I see a Freaken Supra from the Freaken distance A$$***** LOL sorry (thinking out loud) Anyway. Have a Good One Guys. :dsm:

My next project is moving the fog lamps to the inside opening so I can force more into the IC.
Looking a Supra side mount on the Supra forums is your best luck. I got lucky and a got it from a friend that upgraded to a FMIC.

Performance wise I ran it pretty hard today at about 3:00 at 90 something degrees and it worked perfectly. I had alot of power on tap where as before I would always feel my power was down from the heat soaking.

it's a great upgrade for any turbo. These bad boys hold up to 450WHP on MKIV supras before they heatsoak. I've ran this SMIC w/ a 14b, B16g, TD05 20G, 18g and PTE 56 trim. Only time it heat soaked was w/ the 20g at 105* outside after 5 back to back pulls. I was running 23psi on pump daily on the 56trim w/o any probs.

Install is harder w/ AWD then FWD, diffenence of 1 extra bend on the LIC of the AWD cars.

I've been running this setup on my 2g for 2 years with my 14-b. Reading all this brings back the memories of how fun this install was. The install eventually went pretty well but I had to lose the black panel on the back of the bumper. Oh well, I had the ic donated to me by the current #1 ndra turbo six driver. He had it laying around. FREEBIE. Result wise the intercooler does seem to give you more top end over the stock sidemount. It takes a little longer to spool, but hits harder when it does. It doesn't heat soak near as bad as the stocker. IC piping was a bi***. I used the stock mkiv 4 lower rubber pipe cut a little and a j-pipe from a 1g. Upper Pipe wise I'd rather not even talk about. Its a mess of mkiv 4 and mkiv 3 pipes that bottle neck down to 2.25 after a few couplers. The sheet metal can be cut with a dremel but allow for a lot of time and a lot of bits. Also remember to put some vaccumn line on that cut so you don't slice yourself in half while attempting to put the ic in. Hmmm...any more hints, umm, I attached my ic with the stock holes on the ic. I used the thickest zip ties that would go through. Not to much weight rides on them, the pipes do most of the supporting. t-bolts or many clamps are definetly needed.

One last word of advice, make sure you turn the boost down a little before your first drive. I left my alone and ended up spiking 22 lbs and smacking fuel cut, therefore shooting a 10 foot flame out the back and enough fuel smoke to cover 3 lanes of traffic. I thought I blew my shiz up.

Good luck
Dan
