Is the white wire on the float just a ground to chassis? I pulled mine and it is snapped (red circle), but whoever was in there before left it snapped and just grounded (green circle) and ran the wire through the top and grounded on one of the six 8mm nuts on top of the assembly.

I don't know how the previous owner wired it but if we are talking about the factory 1g awd wiring, I think the red circled white wire goes to pin #4 (blue/yellow) of hanger connector. That goes to the fuel low level warning light in the gauge cluster. Not to the ground.
