Edmonton,
Just wanted to know what suspension setup you 1g'ers are running, and how happy you are with it... i'm especially interested in putting in a beefier rear sway bar.

also, my budget for springs and shocks (or coilovers) is $600 ($450 US).

I've got a 2" drop on some megan racing springs, KYB AGX's, and then megan racing F+R strut bars. eBay is your friend. I got all mine for a grand total of about $480 after shipping. I'm extremely happy with how it handles, but it does scrape on the taller speedbumps. With your budget you can forget about any decent coilovers, lowering springs are best for ride quality. Cheaper coilovers tend to break. If you dont want such a big drop I would recommend either eibach pro-kit (1") or sportlines (~1.8"). The AGX's are adjustable 4 ways in the front, and 8 ways in the rear, and definately firm the ride up. Overall I noticed a great improvement in ride quality, and I think it was well worth it. Hope this helps :thumb:

I have Poly Bushings, ST Sway Bars, Megan Racing Strut Bars and JIC's.

Anyone else have opinions on what else I can do to improve handling. I have OEM wheels and Falken Azenis tires.

I am running F+R strut bars, w/ kyb agx adjustables, and eibach ground control coilovers. Rides a little ruff even turned all the way down, but you have to give up comfort for performance. I don't mind it at all. Handles like a dream.

DSS Coil overs on Koni Yellows, DSS front Strut tower bar, Suspension techniques rear sway bar, Front White Line Caster bushings & Rear Camber Kit. Front Quaife LSD. The Ride is awesome!! I can't ask for anything better!

^ your setup is what i want basically.. i don't understand why people are putting in rear strut tower bars with out a rear sway bar.. thats going to increase body roll.

thanks for the replies.. anyone else?

Nice setup but why your car sit so high since you got coilovers?

What I'm doing for my car is the HotBits coilovers, RRE cambermounts, front and rear sway bars, Front strut brace, rear actiive toe elim (from dss if i can somehow convince myself its worth 300)

now thats rather expensive... however if you use that as the "end goal" and build towards that, you'll have an amazing handling car...

however what tires are you running? because that will help more than almost anything else.

let me start by saying that your car looks fu@&!ng gorgeous.I love the black rims on metallic blue :thumb: ,and it looks like the 2" drop got rid of just enough wheelgap. My question to you is,did you,or do you have any alignment issues or bad tirewear issues with a 2"drop?
Beatshack-sorry for jumping on your thread man, just want to add a litle more info as i am interested in dropping my 1g too.peace.

I've got urethane bushings in every place they make them to fit (subframe, control arms, panhard rod, swaybar, lateral links, steering rack, motor mounts), custom front and rear strut tower bars, front chassis bracing around near the subframe mounts, front lower subframe brace, rewelded panhard rod mount, napa extreme duty tie rod ends (massive), manual steering, half length front undertray, KYB GR2's with AWD front springs and stock rear springs, Kumho Ecsta MX tires (225/50-16). The car has 243 Lbs removed. It now weighs around 2600 with 1/2 tank of gas.

It still needs upgraded swaybars, but with the stock ride height at least I dont have to fear speedbumps. I do alot of driving on gravel and dirt roads. I can get around 3 feet of air before I start to bottom things out. The weight reduction has the same effect as going up about 10 percent with the spring rates. On the street it handles better than my friend's AWD 1g with GC coilovers and Koni yellows.

The urethane bushings really help it keep the tires flat and stuck like glue. If you do anything, do the bushings (all of them), and upgraded tires (falken azenis sport or RT615, kumho ecsta MX, bfgoodrich gforce TA KD are all great tires that stick like glue).

I put my whole setup in for about $300 (mostly ebay stuff). Not counting the tires and used 3000gt wheels. They were about $490.

Now this setup I'd like to see some pictures of! I'm interested in making my own strut tower bars. Any tips? I'd personally like to have a 3pt. strut bar front and rear. Needed? Probably not but if I'm going to be making my own why not?

If you're feeling especially handy, creating a triangulated strut bar up front would help keep the front extra stiff.

however in the rear, its totally not needed... if you look at the suspension geometry, theres no "side loading" that would then cause the top of the strut mounts to flex... frankly, go with an extra large sway in the rear, front strut brace (triangulated if you feel up to it), and that should be all you need.
