Hello everyone,

I'm not sure if this is the correct forum to post in. Nonetheless, my Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) on my 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS 420A manual transmission is no longer working. I've ordered a replacement part below (see picture) but it appears I'm missing the black "gear" piece, which I found in a picture online and also posted below.

Is the "gear" piece the only part I am missing from my replacement part I ordered? If so, is the part number MD746492, and does anyone know where I can find the missing piece? Thank you!

Have you looked in the transmission hole to see if the gear is still in there? It is missing for sure.

MD746492 is not the one for you. That's for a Mitsubishi transmission. Seems there are two part numbers (M04670082 and M04670176). Let's hope someone familiar with 420A would chime in and confirm.

Assuming as 1990TSIAWDTALON mentioned and you don’t find the gear in the tranny, DSMPT is correct. M04670082 is the original part number with M04670176 super ceding it. “M” is usually to designate Mitsubishi, so drop it and you have the Chrysler number. I purchased one a few years back from the following site, and it looks like they still have plenty in stock:

Vintage Parts, Inc.

Thank you guys, for your help! So this is the correct part number for a 420A 98 Eclipse RS? I'll go ahead and give that site a look, but just wanted to confirm.

It looks like you have the correct part. I'm not sure why the part number would be different but that is definitely what you need. The gear just slides on and off of the shaft. Nothing to really hold it on besides pressure and friction. Pull the old one off and reuse it. If the old one is not reusable then you may have to find a used one. I have never seen a new sensor that includes the gear.

Old one isn't useable. After reading the above, I think the correct part number should be M04670176.
