Car: A friend of mine's 1997 GS Spyder, M/T with 88K miles on it, stock.
I'm not sure if you guy's can understand my problem description but here it goes:
Problem..."Non-Smooth Idle":
-When at idle (700- 750 rpm's) you can feel the gases "stumbling" out
of the exhaust. Heres the best i can shortly describe this: It's seems
like its having trouble maintaining the feel and sound of a smooth n'
stable idle.
The car gives the impression of having initial symptoms of wanting to
turn off (die out), but it doesn't.
No electrical power is felt failing (Example- interior/exterior
lights do not dim, or go weak when when turned on while at idle), and
no idle surge occurs.
The other thing is that the "stumbling of gases" seem to minimize when
the air conditioner is turned on, and this ONLY happens at idle. It has
no CEL either.
Question...actually I have 2 of them:
1. What can be causing this non-smooth idling problem?
2. This one was also searched:
Can it be possible to manually (with your bare hands) depress and
compress a factory front '97 GS Spyder shock absorber (the black
one)? Or does this means that it needs to be replaced? BTW, it has
no leaks (the shock).
I ask because a mechanic told my friend that this was completely
normal. He said that they come with factory hydraulic shocks (??).
Aren't they supposed to be hard or impossible to be compressed with
the use of your hands, or at least resist the force you apply to it?
(The owner of the car was going to replace it but now he is confused).
Help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks again guys, in advance.
