yeah im planning on buying this car which has Manual
5-Speed
1.8L Engine
Rear Wheel Drive
2 Door
Coupe

i just want it as a town car to get me from work and back no racing or nothing and since i live near mexico i get the engine rebuild cheap like i would replace the headgasket and motor mounts and regular maintainance. the only thing wrong with it is the alternator which i can get for 60$....but anyone have advice or experience with this car if i should buy or not? my plans would be to paint it black get some black rims and just do a cheap rebuild...

You might wanna add 'new driver seat' to your plans for the car ;)
 
I don't see why the 2g N/T can't be a DD. It's not going to be racing in stock form anytime soon either. Plus that Bimmer looks more to be a project car than anything else.
 
an old bimmer in its condition...i'd say pass the ONLY way you get a euro is if the owner did soooo much high maintenance work to the teeth and sank alot of money in it...euros are very expensive, i owned one and have plenty of friends with bimmers. Euro's designs and reliability are just redonkulous, you break a headlight relay and you need to replace the whole combo switch, instead of a 5 dollar relay its a 300 dollar switch that controls directions, cruise and high and low beam etc...just one of there many expensive inconvenient things.
 
i owned a 1980, same model and everything. its actually a 2.0 slant 4 and you can overrev it to 8k and it wont blow! i tried when i did dirt trails with mine and it ran forever! make sure you use sythetic in the tranny and rear diff or it will cook itself...

buy the damn thing and change the oil with 20w50 ON TIME and it will run till the day YOU die, and yes it does take 20w50!
