I have a small 16G turbo laying around that is bad. It has new bearings and has been totally rebuilt, except the turbine shaft is bent. I have a few spare td05 turbine shafts laying around, one clipped 15 degrees that i can use to fix this turbo.
There are a few local guys that i talk to, and they keep on telling me to find a blown turbo from a GMC cyclone/typhoon and put the compressor wheel on my 16G and have it balanced like that. They told me that it will flow more than a big 16G.

Are these guys just jerking my chain, or can i really take a 17C compressor wheel and put it in my 16G ?

Thanks!!!!!!! I have spent all evening reading and researching about the frankenstein steups.

I'm interested in putting a 20G wheel in my turbo, but do i have to have a td06 compressor housing, or can i machine the td05 comp housing out to fit it? Will the td05 comp housing limit the power vs. a td06 comp housing?

I believe you will need a TD 06 comp housing as the 20G wheel is over 2" for the inducer and a 19C just fits at 1.950". I have 1 place to check and will get back. The 20G comp wheel is 2.070", your 16G is 1.830" and the 17c is 1.900". I used to drive conquests and we always had our TD 05' turbo's changed to 06 compressor housings to go 20G. Even if you wanted to go 17C would equire machinng. I would call Forced Performance withyour questions for a professioal answer. mark
