well i went to have my clutch installed, and its gonna be 1400 bucks, they just keep finding more and more problems, this sucks, im only 18 so im gonna be broke for a long ass time!!!!! and i know the owners of the shop ive always taken my cars there, so i know im not getting ripped off. WTF

I know how you feel man, I just turned 19, have absolutely no money, and now I need to build a new longblock :(

Dude, why don't you do it yourself? It's worth it to take the time and learn to do it.

"they keep find more and more problems"

Thats the problem with shops- you tell them to rotate the tires and they tell you that you need to turn the rotors for $700 bucks.

Tell them to replace the clutch and touch nothing else! If they have a problem with that, then take it elsewhere!!!

They are required to tell you about any problems they find to save their asses. Say you bring your car into a shop and they see the lower ball joint is bad but don't say anything about it, or hell they don't even look. You go on your way after getting your car back and 5 miles down the road the ball joint seperates while your going 80mph on the highway, your front end drops to the ground sending you into an uncontrollable spin, you get trapped under an 18 wheeler and are paralized for life. Guess who has to pay for EVERYTHING? The shop. Or say you happen to die from it? The tech that worked on your car can be charged for your death. But if they tell you and you tell them not to fix it, it isn't their problem anymore.

inexperienced shop breaking stuff and making you pay for it saying it was broken.

good luck the bill will only get bigger..

Humm, I just had an act 2100 installed and it costed 750.00. they also replaced the slave cylinder, and the master cylinder.. I supplied the clutch by the way....

i've supplied the clutch setup and tob to a local chrysler dealer and was only charged $275 which included the charge for the machine work to the flywheel.

A good shop will never let anything they dont trust go back on the street. ya it sucks you have to pay more then what you thought it was going to be but be happy they are doing it right instead of seeing problems and not tell you. Because later on that could cause even more problems then what you want.

i totally agree and i hate reading posts like this. i work at a shop and like you said its something we HAVE to do. if you dont fix it i could give two shits less, but i did my job. find out what the problems are that you are paying to fix, if you say this shop is reputable im sure they are LEGITIMATE problems.

And mine was only $840 for my ACT 2100, including the clutch. Find a better shop!

as a prossional tech i try to upsell anything and everything that is required by the manufacturer on maintaince schedules or anything is worn out, under spec, or falling off the car.

What YOU decide to do with YOUR car is up to you!

People that arnt techs dont understand: your danmed if you do or if you dont:

If i do an oil change and your back tire falls off Its my fault, I should have know that it was going to fall of when i was changing your oil.

when i recomend a Water pump while doing your Tbelt and you decline it and it takes a shit six months latter, thats my fault too!

In my bizz you cover your ASS at all costs. If i recomend stuff that you dont want to fix or cant afford to fix im not going down for you! It will all be in writting.

you have to pay to play.

and for all those people that thing that its my fault the bolts and fasteners break or get stripped when im working on your car is my fault: open your glove box and look at the title, the name on the paper IS who is responsible.

I love this commuity, but if you dont do your own repairs you gotta step up! :talon: :rocks:

I agree completely, and if you aren't willing to work on your own car you're gonna have to pay out your ass like paying $1400 for a clutch job and other repairs. If I had to get my clutch replaced and my friends weren't there to help me i'd have to take my car to a shop also and would probably have to pay out the ass.

um, go somewhere else... $1400 for a clutch install is outrageous. you can buy a new tranny for a little more than that. i would say more like $150-$250. GL with finding someone who isnt handing you a can of vaseline and asking you to bend over.

A local DSM'r charged me 60$ to put on my new clutch, flywheel, master&slave cylinder, ss clutch line. it pays to get to know the right people.

you're "friend" is ripping you off

dam 1400?

i paid 350 for the clutch(act2100) and 250 for install, and they had to add another 50 to resurface and step the flywheel.

id go somewhere else. usually take it to a tranny specialty shop(definately not aamco), i took mine to a mom and pop shop out in the boonies that everyone i know takes their cars for tranny work, and seeing that they dont have to go back is usually a good sign.

A local shop ( expensive shop ) wanted $450 to do mine. The dealership wanted $700. that's with my supplying the parts. If you are spending $1400 just on labor you are getting hosed. $300 - $400 seems to be what it should be.

i feel with you,we are always the bad guys..if i tell some customers that a,b and c is broken, some of em get real bitchy about it..well,i didnt break it did i? i did not tell the person to buy that car,nor did i have anything to do with its construction.. its sad being a tech sometimes

example.. friday i p[rogrammed this old gurs car key on a new car(he wanted a 4th key..so i programmed on for him..our shop programms keys for free btw) and i do it,he watches me do it.. then he drives out and leaves.. 10 mins later hes back
" young man.. " he calls my way.. i go over to him, then he says" since youve fooled with my keys, the air conditioning doesnt work anymore..see,the light doesnt go on when i turn it on" i get in the car, look at him,i turn on the ac.. .. this guy was hitting the WRONG BOTTUN ROFL but iinstead of looking, they always come and bi*** around .. :barf:

You know you are not getting ripped off? Um then you are um.. Nevermind. I wont be rude :)

Maybe you know these people who are working on your car but I hate to tell you, they are raw ####ing you with no lube man.

I paid less then $1400 for my TRE rebuilt 5speed awd tranny when I did my a/t to m/t swap and that included the used tranny I bought for them to rebuild.

As for my clutch, I paid $199 for my Fidanza flywheel, $375 for my Road Race Engineering X-Clutch and my friend helped me do it but he normally charges like $150~200 for clutch installs if I remember correctly.

Talk about being taken advantage of. I hope you atleast get a blow job or reach around for your $1400 bucks. Hell if you were local I'd help you do it for pizza and a beer or porn ROFL
