2G Piston rings and oil seepage on 4g63

A set of rings can be had for less than $50. If you're refreshing the motor, just swap the rings and be done with it.

2G Guys, I couldn't stay away and it isn't even my fault...

I’d kill for grey leather seats in that condition.. mine are beat up and the seams keep splitting... AND the leather wrapped shift knob?? I’m so jealous right now...

    Should I buy or no?

Godspeed, CXracing, and Megan Racing are all eBay parts with Megan being the only somewhat reputable of the three.. and I say "reputable" with a GIANT asterisk..

    Should I buy or no?

So it’s a high mileage 91 talon with a bunch of eBay parts... that doesn’t run currently... got it..$20... cash.

95 talon tsi awd vs 98 eclipse gst

It's hard to say with the jumbled mess of photos that you uploaded. I can't decipher which car is which...Either way it looks like you're buying into someone else's mess. If you're looking to have something inexpensive to maintain and daily.. you're looking at the wrong platform.

4g64 serpentine belt broke, is it safe to drive still?

I have 230k on my 4G64 with the original damper :hellyeah:I'll be retiring that motor soon

4g64 serpentine belt broke, is it safe to drive still?

Deleted my last post as I was wrong.. the alternator belt assists the water pump/power steering belt so you are at risk of overheating if you drive it too far. If the shop is close, you could probably make it without issue. On a side note.. it’s not a serpentine belt.Serpentine belts...

Noob considering buying my first DSM

Crankwalk isnt as common as forums will lead you to believe. The problem is with people who have engine failure and immediately use crankwalk as their scapegoat when lack of maintenance/carelessness with the car was the true killer. I just finished rebuilding a 7 bolt 95 long block that I...

    4g64 Street Rebuild

It's not really a matter of which motor to use, it's the 'budget' aspect of it. 400hp can be done on a SOHC 4G64, but it's going to take forged internals, a built head, and lots of other high cost parts to do.
  12. jinscho

    4g64 Street Rebuild

I don't want to come off too harsh.. but let's be realistic..You're not going to make 400hp on a budget with a single cam 4G64.

    4g64 Swap

It was 4G64.com ... The site is no longer around. You can view pages using wayback machine to view archived old pages, but prepare to deal with broken links and a lot of stuff just not showing up.

    Looking to buy this 2G

Wow... I always love when someone assumes you can't afford something and that's why you're offering less. It's so hard for them to comprehend that what they're asking just isn't worth the cost..Good luck on the hunt!

    Looking to buy this 2G

The unmolested aspect is definitely a positive, but the seller still needs to understand it's not a pristine car anymore either. 118k with rust and leaks, I'd say 2k would be a fair offer in my honest opinion. Just be up front with the seller, let them know you're interested in bringing it...

    Looking to buy this 2G

$3000 is a bit steep in my opinion. It's a 21 year old car with rust and oil leaks, I'd point out the noticable flaws and offer ~$2200. You're going to have to spend $500-$800 on it with repairs right off the bat on the low end assuming you're capable of doing them yourself. Oil down the left...

Could be as simple as replacing the valve cover gasket. I'd definitely check it out

    2G Underbody rust.

If done properly, it won't cause any issues, hence why the factory sprays the underbody at the factory. However, if you don't clean all the rust up before coating it, the rust will continue to develop below the surface.
  19. jinscho

    2G Underbody rust.

How you go about repairing the problem is going to be heavily dependent on how bad it is. Unfortunately it’s going to be hard to give guidance without photos of the damage. Repairs could be as simple as wire wheeling it down to bare metal, priming, and coating with a rubberized underbody...

    4G63 Manifold on a 4G64

www.club3g.com is where I would start. Don't know how active the forum is, but it's a dedicated forum to the 3G Eclipse platform. Unfortunately, a lot changed with the 3G revision that pushed that platform far away from the 1st and 2nd gen.***edit*** few seconds of searching and I found...

    4G63 Manifold on a 4G64

With some mods, yes. HOWEVER, this thread is referring to a 2G 4G64. I saw your post regarding your 3G Eclipse, and I can not confirm it will work on that motor as the 3G 4G64's are clocked 180* from the 2G's. If you're looking for more info on the swap for a 3G motor, I don't know how much...

    Buying an Eclipse..?

My Spyder GS has 198k on the clock.. fires right up even in the 8 degree morning's we've had in NE PA lately. Any car can be unreliable, reliability isn't something that just happens with a car. It's all about maintenance!

Need opinions on T25 or 14b

Duly noted. I guess with my background in the quick lube industry I learned to not overthink oil. It's quite simple really, go with a well respected brand at a viscosity you are comfortable running for your application. Beyond that, conventional, synthetic, syn blend.. in most applications it...

Are L and R calipers interchangeable?

Numerous issues from air being in the system? Sure.Brake fade Brake system failure Premature caliper failure Dual piston caliper with an air pocket at the top of the caliper could lead to improper pad contact.Needless to say, zero fun involved in any situation.Also.. Even with a length...

Are L and R calipers interchangeable?

Problem is, you wouldn't be able to bleed them properly during initial installation with the bleeder valve on the bottom. This would cause numerous issues on its own.I would pick up the one side at that price and keep an eye out for the other side in the future.

Going to play devil's advocate on this one just to cover all of my bases, don't take this as me shutting out the idea of using VR-1 or something similar, I just like to look through every side of these choices. The article FP put out seems to be geared heavily towards modified 4G63t 'race...

Goal isn't to really max anything out with this build, more to wake the engine up a bit and put a little extra pep in normal day to day driving, hence my low goals of 7-8 psi. Going from n/a to 7-8psi of boost on this motor will be just enough to make my daily commutes that much more enjoyable...

Need opinions on T25 or 14b

Quick update for those who shared their thoughts:Since I only had a couple of replies, I spent some time talking to the seller and looking over all of the turbos he had on hand (3 t25's, 2 14b's, and a 16g) and ended up settling on a t25 that's in excellent overall shape. Yes, it's the whimp...

First thing out of the way. This is going on a 4G64 SOHC turbo swap. I'm not doing a head swap, and I'm only looking to run 7-8lbs with a stock 2g SMIC. Doing this as more of a 'look what I did' than building a track car. That out of the way, I'm going to be hitting up a local shop that parts...

Replacing head gasket, what else while I'm in there?

I appreciate the feedback. I'm just trying to be as thorough as possible on this one. PCV is fairly new, and prior to putting the car on the road I had the exhaust manifold off to clean it up (car sat for 2 years prior to my purchase) and the studs on that end were still in good shape. I'll...

Replacing head gasket, what else while I'm in there?

Head gasket started to leak recently (getting coolant in the combustion chamber). I went ahead and ordered a master gasket kit for the top half of the motor (head gasket, vcg, valve seals, intake and exhaust, egr, throttle body, and quite a few more) and a set of head studs. Also going to use...
