Car Overheated / Overheating / Overheats [MERGED]

Just a thought of course, but it is always possible that the FMIC is keeping enough fresh air from hitting the radiator which could be causing an overheating issue... Do you have AC in your car still?

    Starting issues - No / Doesn't / Won't Start - MERGED

Well the basics would be Fuel, Spark, Compression, and Timing (with the given Air). If you have verified that you are getting Spark and fuel, check compression and timing to be safe. But if you think that you are pig rich, let it sit for a bit with the plugs loose or out with a rag covering the...

    Engine miss

I would agree with you if you had more than one cylinder that was causing the problem. If you had two cylinders not firing, I would think that possibly the coil pack or the transistor may be the issue. Being as this is only effecting one cylinder, I usually would be something more related to...

    2G Is this timing correct?

true.. I have teh BSE as well but it helps diagnose when you are a tooth off or less... I did it to my car so I have all timing marks lined up regardless. Here is a picture reference I have for you.http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/1585040-post14.htmlThis is of course from a conversation...

    2G Is this timing correct?

This may help since you have the engine out of the car. If you look at the timing marks dead on, they should all line up across the top of the head where the valve cover would sit. This is a good help as well. Also, looking at the picture, isn't the oil sprocket supposed to be lined up with...

    question about installing CAS

You either just have bad luck with the CAS castings or you are tightening them way too much. And if it doesn't feel like you are tightening them much, then you sir should be in the strongest man competitions LOL. If you don't have a set of torque wrenches, you should probably pick a set up and...

    question about installing CAS

You realize that you have only partially completed this task if you have not used the timing light to make sure that you have appropriately adjust the CAS to make sure that your timing is at 5* BEFORE TDC.... Just pointing this out. It is very crucial to the health of your engine. I just want to...

    idle problems need some advice??

You really should start out with a BLT with soapy water to make sure that the issue is not air leaks into the system as already stated. You should also try to see if the throttle plate assembly is not dirty and/or sticking. This can also be in conjunction with the throttle cable being too tight...

Car Overheated / Overheating / Overheats [MERGED]

The issue does sound like it could be head gasket related. Is there coolant in your oil or vice versa? You can leave the car running when cold and take off the coolant cap to see if there are any bubbles. This is also an indication of a blown head gasket. You can also perform a compression test...

    Engine miss

Personally the compression numbers although are solid all the way across sound a bit low.... I feel like I have read something about the service level being like 130-140... Don't quote me on that yet. I am going to look up those numbers.ah HA! I found the link I was looking for. The service...

    Squealing. Not a belt issue.

Just to clarify from your post, is the noise RPM related or Speed related. Meaning does the sound get more high pitched the higher in RPM you go or the faster you go regardless of the RPM?

    reusing timing belt

When my water pump went out on me, I had to take off my timing belt. I had rebuilt the engine only 30K miles ago so everything else was already "new". I marked the direction as mentioned above and kept it clean. It looked good, no rub marks, fraying, cracks etc. I put that sucker back on, and I...

Resolved ISC motor harness side 6 volts?

Good luck with that man. I really hope it isn't too serious. But seeing metal shavings usually isn't a good sign either. Let us know what happens!!!

Resolved ISC motor harness side 6 volts?

Honestly, retiming the engine with it still in the car is not too bad. I had my water pump go out on me a couple months back and I had to do the water pump and re-time with the engine in the car. It isn;t too bad. I don't have any information about doing the BSE in car though.

Resolved ISC motor harness side 6 volts?

I had the exactly the same problem. The ISC drivers on my ECU were shot. When I sent my ECU in for the non-eprom conversion and ECMLink, they replaced that driver. Now my idle is working just fine.Example: driver01 [ECMTuning - wiki]This is what a properly operating ISC should look like when...

Losing coolant even after new headgasket

What would be the drawback to having a cap with a PSI rating that high?
  21. AlaskanDsm

Losing coolant even after new headgasket

Just a quick question, is having a cap at 24PSI good/bad? I know that the stock cap is somewhere around 13-15PSI. I just wanted to clarify for myself on why or why not that this would be okay. I understand that at the stock pressure rating, the system is designed to hold a certain amount of...

    Water pump doesn't seal

I totally agree and normally, I would have just gone and gotten OEM but I couldnt afford to shell out over $100 at the time and so if this one only lasts me 5,000 miles, it was worth the $35 I spent on it.

1G Major coolant leak from timing side of engine.

Okay. I am ditching work early today anyways haha. I should have enough daylight to take the WP and HB pulleys off and get that belt readjusted to be correct. Then I should be good to go. Odd thing is that it seemed to run fine... Whatever haha I just want it to be right. Thanks for the help...

1G Major coolant leak from timing side of engine.

Okay so let me make sure that I have this right.I need to rotate the exhaust cam gear 1 tooth clockwise which will knock out the alignment of the timing marks. But after moving the exhaust cam, if I re-align the timing marks for the cams, the crankshaft will have rotated 1 half tooth...

Being that I have not released the hydronic tensioner yet, I will attempt what you said Bryan. I will also attempt to get some pictures posted as to show where everything is lined up currently. But I have a feeling that it isn't going to make a difference. I seem to recall when I rebuilt the...

1G Major coolant leak from timing side of engine.

If I rotate the exhaust cam backwards anymore, the timing marks will no longer line up. I already had to rotate the cam as it was to get the marks to line up on the cam gears. 1G Major coolant leak from timing side of engine.

I have been able to verify that the cam inside marks are at the center of the cam bolts. And the problem is that if I line up the crank pulley first and try to get the cams to line up, I cannot. They do the same thing where the cam marks will not line up and end up being a half a tooth off.I...

    Water pump doesn't seal

Well I finally got a chance to get out there and see if I could get the second new water pump on. It honestly went on without a hitch so I am thinking that the first one must have some kind of a problem when I was installing it. Thanks for the help.

    Water pump doesn't seal

luv2rallye, Thanks for the info but I already knew this. The leak was not coming from the water pipe but from the bottom of the pump where it connects to the block. The o-ring used is already on the water pipe and was drenched before I put the pump on.

    Water pump doesn't seal

I have already returned the first one and I have a second one waiting to go on.I have a feeling that it would not have mattered how the gasket was being sealed either with silicone, paper, or a mix. I believe that it was just not sealing tightly against the block. During my attempt to...

    car struggling to move

Well i do know that you said that you are going to be entering a rebuild period at this point so I am not overly concerned. there are still tests you can do to help narrow down the problem and do a more precise rebuild on the effected area but for the time being, unless you have any other issues...

    car struggling to move

  36. AlaskanDsm

    car struggling to move

This is true but this is also why the car has freeze plugs built into the block in case the block freezes, the design by nature is supposed to allow the freeze plugs to be the weakest point to relieve some pressure and blow those plugs out first. Does this happen in every case, no.

1G Major coolant leak from timing side of engine.

The freeze plug is something I had not even considered. As far as it being a hose from the oil cooler housing, this would not be the case as the picture is misleading. the car is sitting on a downward angle as well as I can see the water coming down directly onto the harmonic balancer from the...

Thanks for the quick replies guys.My car has a rebuilt engine in the car that has just under 30K. At that time we replaced the pump with an OEM pump so it is also at approx 30K... So it is just odd that it would die so quickly. Also, I would think that it is still premature on the timing...

fuel cut on stock 1g, possible boost creep?

The best thing you can do to answer your question is to do a boost leak test with some very soapy water sprayed on. This will show if you have any leaks that would cause issues.
