I'm thinking of cutting out where the spare tire goes and riveting or bolting down aluminum in the whole truck area,
also a lightweight /small battery should cut down on some lbs.

If you're going with aftermarket cams, I'd go with adjustable cam gears so that you can degree your cams.( when selecting a cam gear look for one with the advance/retard marks clearly marked, and one where the bolts to lock it down can be securely fastened as you don't want those...
While everything is apart you may also want to think about what you are going to do with or about the oil pump. Oem should add a couple hundred to the budget, You may also want to research porting it depending on what you want as far as oil pressure.
