I'm down with going to a manual rack as I have a spare I was going to make into a manual. If this comes out with a better ratio, I'd be in for it.

I've always just pulled a spark plug and inserted a foot or so of small diameter rope. This will allow the piston something soft to rest against and not move without damaging anything.

I just run them all the time on purpose. It don't have any negative affect on doing so. I've always run aftermarket fans with ignition on with all my cars. I do with my supra and my muscle cars as well.

Yeah sure. It's actually not that bad. The biggest thing is to make sure everything stays clean. You don't want to contaminate the inside of the transmission.

Lol....there's no such thing as too many parts. I don't mind automatics, but at least they're easier to rebuild. I've rebuilt quite a few.

I don't blame you for wanting spare parts as I keep a lot.....lol. I have 4 spare motors, 3 good awd trannies, 3 parts trainees, and tons of other parts. I would definitely figure out the smoke issue and gather parts for another engine build.

Sounds like you answered your own question with just plugging the holes............

I agree with Duncan, test the compression. Could be as simple as a blown turbo seal. Any noises to accompany the smoke, or just smoke?

The fuel pressure should be around 43 with vacuum hooked up, but 40 should be good enough as long as it don't drop out. I would recommend WhiteTalon007's point and check the maf. It could be dirty or bad. You could try unhooking the maf and see if it does the same thing. If so, I would try...

Sounds like a fuel issue. Do you have an aftermarket fuel pressure gauge that you can watch?

The 2GB talon does look good, but I do like the eclipse look. Mine is a 95 TSi AWD that I converted to the eclipse look (pictured to the left). I'm currently working on a build with my daughter on a 96 TSi AWD, but I'm going to keep it with the talon look for her. She likes it.

I have a couple friends that use the SAFC-2 to tune with. It seems to work decent, but it's pretty basic and lacks a lot compared to AEM and DSMLink.
