I am going to look at a rebuildable core motor. My engine is a turbo 4g63T from a 95 Talon TSI. The block casting # is RVO280. Should the casting # be the same if it's a 7 bolt turbo?
Is there anything else I should look for to make sure it's a turbo block/head? Manifolds are off so it's...
Great, wait for a few years. Pretty soon we're going to have giant oil squirting bugs ravaging the land. Anyone remember the Toxic Avenger? Nothing good ever comes from playing with nature like that.
Buying turbo today. What is the differance between the EVO3 16G and the "Small" 16G? Going to order from DSMPARTS.com or Slowboy. Joe from Slowboy PM'd me and has a EVO3, and boost guage for a decent $. Anyone deal with either vender? Are they reputable?
No pics right now. I'm going to order a 16G and hope for the best. It's got to be better than it was. After rebuilding the engine I had a helluva lag and lack of power coming off a stop. It took me revving to 4k just to get any power. I'd bet my bushings were shot from the start and it...
First let me start by saying that I searched and didn't find the answer to my question. My turbo siezed up and I am shopping for a replacement. I have the casting #'s off the intake side of the turbo.
It's stamped: Turbocharger
Type: TD05
RE.NO:KD070001505It...
I'll bet there is some piston skirt damage. There shouldn't be any contact like that on your cyl walls. From my experience with diesels and larger trucks thats pretty common with overheating. I'd check your compression when you put it back together. Lucky it didn't sieze up.
I've been having low power issues ever since I built the motor for my 95 TSI talon. I didn't have a boost guage so I built an adapter for my a/c guages. After finding my car wasn't boosting I removed the intake and found the compressor wheels siezed. It's getting oil so I assume a bearing...
Compression was 140 in all 4, timing was right on. I made an adapter for my a/c guages and checked the boost. Nothing! Pulled the intake hose off and the frigging compressor fins are siezed! Crapola.:notgood:
Is the timing adjustable on the 2.0 Turbos? I'm getting a bog/low power when pulling away from a stop and I'm not sure if its a timing issue or auto trans problem. Doesn't seem to slip, just no power until you get some RPM's. Fluid isn't burned and is full.
It feels like the timing is...
If the bore is screwed up I would almost gurantee that the pistons are wasted too. I had one hole in my block sleeved to match the .020 bore that I had it punched to. Sleeving actually helps strenthen the bore and works just fine.
The cost of the sleeve was almost as much as finding another...
Toe will cause the tread to smear out towards the outside/inside depending on wether it's toe'd in or out too much. Excessive treadware on the inside says it's a camber issue. From what you discribe it sounds like something is bent/worn out.
I have some questions about my automatic in my 2g. It works fine for a while, then for no reason it'll kick you into 1st and won't shift. After letting the car sit for a while, it'll work fine. TCM? When it's working the car seems to shift just fine, just after it gets driven for half an...
What I do is get the motor at TDC, then get the belt set across the top of the cam pullys, then use two wrenches and rotate the cams so they are timed correctly (marks lined up with the cyl head and eachother) then set the belt into the cogs. I used two vise grips to hold the belt to the pullys...
I found the problem. I had the exaust cam 180 off. Apparently I didn't look hard enough on the cam pully for the 2nd timing mark. Someone had already marked the opposite side and I was trying to use that for my timing. Runs like a champ now.
Sounds like something is wrong. Do you have the balance shaft in now that runs off the pump? I'd guess galling in the pump if you were cranking it without any lube.
You have to at least fill them with lubriplate when you install them. It helps prelube as well as create a vacuum to pull...
Checked leakage, good. I pulled the cams off and checked the compression. If I tap on a valve while cranking (without the cams) it gets up to 120#. Not bad for a bran new engine that's never been run.
From what I can tell it's the lifters not getting primed. I didn't use the drill...
Yes, rings are offset. I am just about sure it's a timing issue, there is almost no compression if you crank it over without any plugs. I'll do a leakdown test tonight and see what is wrong. Probbably something simple.
Is it possible to install camshafts in the 2.oT backwards? I've had my motor machined locally and just got it put together and installed. No compression while cranking. Only thing I can think of is my son played with the cams and may have swapped them. No notch in the Exaust cam end where...
Where is the backfiring coming from? I'd check your timing and make sure it's dead on. Also check the tension on your timing belt.
Most of my experience is with large v8's and diesels. Any time you have a backfire in the intake side of the motor it's a timing issue, exaust backfiring...
I talked to my machinist, he suggested to just sleeve the one hole. He has done it many times before, including my Cummins w/560k. Worked out well before and saves me the BS of finding another block.
When we're done it'll be .020 over.
Is there a reputable source for DSM parts that you would recommend? My parts store wants $600 for a full kit for my 4g63t with pistons and timing kit. I'm just looking for a stock setup, nothing special. It does although have a upgraded turbo I'd like to take advantage of if I can.
Anyone...
Fuel prices are killing us. They are driving up the price of everything else. Except for houses, they are falling faster then Tom Cruises career.
But my biggest gripe is the people that were "Tricked" into buying houses they couldn't afford. Come on, give me a break, no one told you that...
My parts store is trying to tell me that the ###. import engines use differant parts, i.e. water pump, bearings, gaskets, etc... Anyone have any experience with this? I'd think they were all the same, but I want to make sure before I go any buy one and waste $1400 on something I can't get...

This is my first post here so be gentle.I bought a 95 Talon TSI Turbo that had a little engine noise then an engine fire. That noise turned out to be 2 & 3 rod caps coming loose and puting 2 holes in the block and screwing the whole bottom end. Which I assume turned into a fire that...
