  1. Loping between 1500 and 2000 rpm

Maybe i didn't state it clearly. I appreciate the re-emphasis of how the 2g TPS works.I adjusted (per the FSM) the one which was on the car in the video, and was able to get a properly working system despite the TPS indicating 7% open. Presumably, the idle contact had...
  2. Loping between 1500 and 2000 rpm

Sorry to revive this after so long. Just wanted to update. In my case, the throttle closed switch in the Throttle position sensor was bad. The throttle angle sensor part of it was ok, hence the mis-intepreted output. It appeared to work properly after adjusting for the throttle closed sensor...
  3. Different ISC housings or adapter/Swap FITV? 6 bolt 2g

Hate to revive an old thread... but i came across this thread after trying to loot lots of different mitsu cars and i recognized the questionable part. I believe the black one in the last photo in OPs post is the one i saw on a mirage. The throttle body has the housing on those. I took it off...
  4. Loping between 1500 and 2000 rpm

I'll have a look at it and report back. I was under a wrong impression as to how the ECU determined throttle closed. (I believe I must have read the 420a operation notes at some point, and remembered that instead of the 4g63T operation notes.)
  5. Loping between 1500 and 2000 rpm

My apologies, it is a 1995 (february) talon.
  6. 2G starter problem

Occasionally I'll be messing around under the hood and forget to plug in the maf sensor again when I'm done. About the same thing happens.
  7. Loping between 1500 and 2000 rpm

If this is obvious, my apologies in advance, tried searching but terminology to describe this didn't seem to return anything. Please consider the following video:I noticed this behavior not long after buying the car almost 6 years ago. The car is nearly stock, and has only a Fidanza...
  8. Spherical bearings 2g

By wear item are we talking every race or every 10k miles?I expected a lot of nvh transmission, but my opinion is that the urethane bushing replacement seems to diminish the active toe effect significantly. I was thinking about replacing the trailing arm bushings with the spherical bearing...
  9. Spherical bearings 2g

That's kewl and all but really, how is the ride? Is your modification unstreetable? Can you compare to experience with prothane or energy suspension, or at least your feelings on the comparison to stock bushings?
  10. Bog/spudder while accelerating hard

Second this. Just had the same problem. Car has a Waste Spark ignition system. 2 and 3, 1 and 4 fire together. If the plug gap total between either pair is high enough, it stutters under higher load (feels like 2 dead cylinders)
  11. 96 tsi wont misfire if wires 2 and 3 are switched

By "good pcv valve" do you mean from Satan or from your local aftermarket parts store? The vast majority of cars on the road are normally aspirated (like a 420a eclipse). In this case, the PCV Valve serves very little purpose. As a result, most aftermarket PCV valves don't hold any pressure...
  12. Clutch question

There has been some data to suggest that a heavier clutch plate may cause wear on the crankshaft thrust bearing.Having said that, a kevlar disk with a stock pressure plate might be for you. They take some abuse, function well at higher temperatures, and are supposed to be very streetable...
  13. 96 tsi wont misfire if wires 2 and 3 are switched

In line with my previous comment about the PCV valve, is number 3 intake runner clean? Does your PCV valve close under manifold pressure as it should?
  14. 96 tsi wont misfire if wires 2 and 3 are switched

Most things refer to this as a waste spark system. It reduces the number of coils in the coil pack. Good for cost, however, if your car starts feeling like it's running on two cylinders suddenly, usually, that means your plugs have worn enough that the coil can no longer overcome the resistance...
  15. Thrust bearing failure. Fix or dump?

Clutch is ACT2600, Safety switch is intact. What's so great about the 6 bolt? All i've seen is that they have non-valved oil-squirters that come directly off the main oil gallery, 1 less bolt holding the flywheel on, and a lot of belief that they suffer from this sort of failure less. While...
  16. Thrust bearing failure. Fix or dump?

Boo, I'll post some pics of the cranks and pistons later to see what we think of those.
  17. Thrust bearing failure. Fix or dump?

I apologize to be bringing this up, but i have some good pictures that i wasn't able to find and may serve as an absolute guide for others in the future. (or maybe it's not as bad as i think, replies will tell)I got this block, free with a rusted up 95 talon awd. The pictures linked in the...
  18. Electrical/Start problem

Did you check the standing battery voltage? (car off) Might just be a dead/bad battery.
  19. How do they know how much boost?

If you have a giant turbo though, do they just assume you want to try to get it all even if it might be dangerous? (assuming they aren't leaning it out and causing knock)
  20. gauge cluster problems

You might have some wires shorted inside the harness. That would explain a lot of the symptoms. If any of the harness got hot before you rearranged it the insulation could have become brittle.
  21. need somebody to rechip my eprom ecu

Perhaps the fellas at ECMTuning, Inc. can help?
  22. gauge cluster problems

I can't help a whole lot on this, but if your stock oil pressure gauge is going straight for the moon, it means that it's grounded (this is not normal). The gauge should normally sit on the bottom unless the car is actually running. For the rest, perhaps the gauge cluster is damaged? Did it...
  23. Part Numbers for AWD Swap

I'm guessing that i can't find these numbers because they either don't exist seperately or aren't published by mitsu.I'm looking for part numbers to order brand spanky new tunnel brackets for an AWD swap. This part:And this part:I'm also looking for part numbers for fresh bolts for the...
  24. Name this plug near gauge cluster

It really looks like the connector from either the brake or clutch position switches. Keep in mind that the clutch has 2 switches. One for the autocruise that senses when you push the clutch down, and an interlock switch for starting that requires you push the switch all the way down.
  25. !!Transaxle Fluid Change-HELP!!

This may be slightly unpopular advice, but if you can't get it off and can't deal with it right now, use the service manual recommended fluid amount and use a little piece of hosing (can get from parts store) to pour your fluid into the speedometer gear hole. The speedometer hole is a lot larger...
  26. Injector Cleaning...?

What moneypit is getting at, is that if the problem with the injector that is causing it to stick open isn't "gunk" then cleaning it out won't fix it.If there's a mechanical or electrical problem with the injector, no amount of cleaning will do you any good.If the injector is not...
  27. ignition timing locked!!

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say i believe that DSMs don't have a timing advance. On the down side of the timing belt (that goes from the intake cam down to the oil pump) there is a static pulley bolted right to the block and on the up side of the timing belt (from the crank up to the...
  28. Oil on head exhaust runners. I searched already. Wisemen come in!!

Maybe i'm out of line for saying this, but i'd say you probably shouldn't have reused the head gasket. Having said that, i don't see a leak in the head gasket getting up into the exhaust ports (unless from the inside, in which case it should be all over the inside, not just at the edge) or on...
  29. Oil on head exhaust runners. I searched already. Wisemen come in!!

Just to throw it out there, as for your concern regarding which stud has oil right behind it, its the center-most bottom stud, however that shouldn't put oil in your runners. Is your exhaust manifold gasket covered with oil also? Even if it was, i'd expect that it would require your bottom...
  30. why do we keep dsm's

Exactly this. I bought mine sight unseen (big mistake) out of state (big mistake) and with terrible pictures (big mistake). I then proceeded to pay a dealer 7500 to do all the "regular maintenance" I didn't know if had been done or not. He ripped me off big time, stole some of my new parts (of...
  31. 2G F5M33 rebuild (DSM FWD Transmission)

Awesome pic. Thx again for the replies, both.I don't think i can use the original shims from the transmission in question, or at least, i wouldn't feel comfortable doing so. The intermediate shaft had a bit of play in it that i want to eliminate. It might turn out that after refitting...
  32. 2G F5M33 rebuild (DSM FWD Transmission)

Sincerely, thanks for the info, but where were you guys in december? WTF Seriously tho, thanks for the additional info, i read over the DRE tranny article several times and actually sent him an email about what to use to put the races back on. He was fairly prompt but equally vague as the...
  33. ISC clicking and car dosent like to run

Going out on a limb here, but clicking that sounds like a diesel can indicate dry or very leaky hydraulic lifters. If that's the case, the noise is caused by basically free play in the valve lift system. Is your oil topped up?
  34. 2G F5M33 rebuild (DSM FWD Transmission)

Sorry for the bump, just want to share some knowledge after resolving my own problem.I did some research and (as you might guess from the date of the last post) a lot of thinking. I called a few shops for advice, however most of them said "we make our own tools" without much input as to what...
  35. 2G F5M33 rebuild (DSM FWD Transmission)

I'm rebuilding an f5m33 manual transmission from a 97 Talon TSi FWD. The transmission that i got with the car had damaged input and intermediate shaft gears (the ones that are part of the shaft). I bought another transmission that has a worn 3-4 shift fork and shift lever. My plan is to take...
  36. Oil pressure gauge sensor questions [merged] oil sender

I disassembled my Instrument cluster as i had the problem where my oil pressure gauge was stuck in one position. I removed the oil pressure/boost pressure combo from my cluster and found that the actuator for the oil pressure sensor is a bimetallic "U" shaped piece with several wraps of wire...
  37. Passenger Side Transmission Mount Small clearance

I hope this isn't frowned upon... Update: Turns out ArticNemesis had it at least partially right. I took the car into the body shop, they measured it up and told me the front end was off by what they termed "a whole notch" in their body machine. After they straightened it up, its still not...
  38. Passenger Side Transmission Mount Small clearance

I contacted a local body shop, they got me scheduled for like next tuesday to put it up on their machine. Thanks for the info and second opinions.
  39. Passenger Side Transmission Mount Small clearance

Yeah, im positive, i put the parts list together myself and saw all the parts before they were installed and after they threw them out. What i hadn't posted yet is that i did some more disassembly on the engine compartment last night. They also failed to reconnect my speedometer, and i was...
  40. Passenger Side Transmission Mount Small clearance

Is this typically something that can be repaired by a body shop? If so, should i expect to lose an arm and a leg getting it fixed?
  41. Passenger Side Transmission Mount Small clearance

Not even any crazy ideas? My first instinct was that perhaps a bushing is missing or damaged on the main subframe allowing the bottom of the car to be slightly out of skew. I haven't yet had a chance to disassemble it. I was wondering if the problem was more common as i test drove a 95 eclipse...
  42. Passenger Side Transmission Mount Small clearance

I have a peculiar problem with my 2g DSM (Eagle Talon Tsi FWD 5spd) after i had it serviced at a dealer in Alabama. The car was just past a major service point when i got it (120k) so i had them replace a lot of stuff as i wasn't allowed to work on it in the apartment i lived in. One of the...
