Im selling my FP manifold to a friend, if he wasnt getting it already Id sell it to you cheap just to see if it made your car run faster or not. Do you think solid motor mounts and stiffer suspension would get you out of the hole quicker?

The 14b Drag Race Discussion Thread

Going back on something, I dont see how more displacement would hurt anything until you reach rpm limitation. These strokers can safely be revved to 8k, a 14b setup would not be revved beyond that anyways . Therefore it will make more power/torque down low and midrange than 2.0 with quicker...

    10.3 on Fp68 HTA 16G

I think theres still some bolt on power increases to be made as well as more weight lose that could possibly step the trap speed up another 4-5mph and get it into the single digits on a full effort pass. But otherwise, it is a perfect dsm in regards to track performance...
  4. Black_Bullet

The 14b Drag Race Discussion Thread

On a car not revving out, it should always make more power with the stroker over the 2.0, or at least make the power easier. A stroker on a small turbo like a 14b would be nuts as far as spool goes, nor will the turbo be able to hold boost at all, but tats not really a bad thing. It will just be...

What Ive been thinking, there still so much left in it in hard parts and weight reduction its not even funny. Lucas , I think you should go for high 9s before retiring your efforts; but I know you were saying your building the car around what it already has on a budget so that might not happen...

Since you dont have the center portion of the wing, why not just take off the rest of it? More weight right? I dont have a wing at all, my car looks just fine...

Damn, how much does your car weigh again? ^ If it were me Id paint all the metal in the interior black so it would look cleaner, but I know your probably worried about the 2 or 3 lbs a couple cans of paint will add huh lol.

    Bc springs.

Good luck with that, the Kelfords are aggressive cams, I think those BC springs and retainers are in for a ride with anything above 8k and those cams, im keeping mines at 8k on that setup.

I got a weight reduction idea for you guys... Find a old mid 90s mirage for cheap with a blown motor and do a 4g63T awd conversion on it. :) lol i was considering going mirage for a long time, especially for the sleeperness of it, and the fact it puts the car a little under 2600lbs w/ the swap...

    Bc springs.

Ive been running bc springs and retainers with Kelford 272s up to 8k. I wont rev any higher, especially being the kelfords are pretty aggressive. Sorry to hear about your head, but thats cool that they were willing to work with you...

Snap goes the Tcase :pBut yea, thats interesting you think you can trap 135-140mph with 450awhp, Ive never done the calculations with weight and power. If so thats cool hopefully I can track mines one day, because thats the power I project mines to be around now with this ethanol and hx40, and...

If your talking about the puny dsm drivetrain, then I concur. :sneaky: Putting down that type of power for him would mean, much higher trap speeds, but likely less traction thus resulting in not too different of an ET.But with the additional power, if it was still made to dead hook, with hard...

Which Cams: Kelford Or BC ?

Screw that , Lasers the fastest , its the lightest :p And in response to Theboz, just so I dont make this a useless post, I dont think a cam upgrade decision should be broadly based on a HP number but more so a decision based on power band and supporting mods... For example you said 280s for...

Getting going from McD's parking lots should be tricky for anyone if you ate there. LoL Yea man I see what you mean now though, I forgot the manual rack had more turns than the regular steering. I havent really noticed or remembered i guess... I dont think thats really an issue unless you Auto-X...

Hmm.. I think you should go with solid mounts instead of prothanes if you are to change out your inserts, and also whats the whole deal with Bucci running a awd trans anyways, and what did he have done to the trans. Was the gearing changed to help his times, like say Evo3 gears? Longer first...

I love my manual rack. Power steering is too light. I can still one hand drive anywhere with ease with the manual rack, the only time I need two hands is when turning the wheel into a tight parking space at under 5mph. To add to that I have a smaller Ralliart Racing steering wheel which makes...

The 14b Drag Race Discussion Thread

Thats what it comes down to, how much effort and time do you want to put into this. I think building the motor with insanely high compression, better cams, and intake manifold will give you the biggest gains in your attempts, but thats big money too. Have you ever looked at the Hawver cast...

1/8th spacers, grinded rear control arm, and ingall fast cam camber bolts to dial in my front camber is all I run with my rx7 rims with 225/50 tires. I have the earlier version of these rims, thus mines are around 12lbs. My total car weight is down to 2800lbs with me sitting in it, I weigh...

I think the water/air Ic IS needed. In addition to whats said above, cracking open the motor and shooting for additional power in real high compression, i.e. 12.1 compression ratios or maybe even higher. Also, something that might not be very appealing to everyone, but have you guys also thought...

    Finally, a good quiet muffler

Pretty neat. I have a 3in dp w/ a 3in electric cutout going into 2.5 catback and stock muffler. I was always under the assumption though that this type of setup still caused a bit of backpressure even with the cutout open since the straight part of the Y section coming off the cutout is what...

Which Cams: Kelford Or BC ?

I did a write up on my experience with the kelford272s coming from bc272s. They shouldnt really be compared too much because they are totally different cams. On a evo316g sized turbo and smaller which is already taxed on airflow, the kelfords dont make that much a difference over the bc272s...

    tunning vs boost psi

  25. Black_Bullet

    high compresson pistons and e85

The 16g itself with those high boost aggressive torque spikes is not helping your traction issues. IMO, youd be better off with the 2.0 and a slightly bigger turbo ( say a hx35.) Your spool times will probably be about the same as the 16g on the 1.6 liter, maybe even quicker. Since its fwd, if...
  26. Black_Bullet

    high compresson pistons and e85

Your non intercooler setup is very tempting. My friend with the 4in exhaust 35r car has very similar intake setup as well. Also Why not be 2.0 and take it to the same rpm with more flow? I dont get that part with being 1.6.
  27. Black_Bullet

    high compresson pistons and e85

Aha, so you have almost no intercooler piping basically.. Maybe another reason you reach such a high psi..
  28. Black_Bullet

    high compresson pistons and e85

With only a 16g, I think the motor would give before making e85 knock... Obviously to run higher compression the timing will have to be tuned accordingly, but other than that nothing else changes, same boost and afr can be applied, but the car will have a better thermal efficiency with the...

    high compresson pistons and e85

Interesting... Two things im raising my eyebrow about, for one I dont see how you stripped 5th gear lol and also I dont understand why youd want less displacement, keep the 2.0. The 2.0 should provide more torque but keep the same top end or better over the 1.6, unless you did something to...

    10.5@130mph FP 68HTA 16G

Random question, but if you know, what does 9:0 compression show up in psi on a compression test?
  32. Black_Bullet

    tunning vs boost psi

Was the compression like that with the numbers in your avatar? Ideally with ethanol, Id run as high as 11.1 compression on a e316g setup. Sounds crazy but thats were the powers at :sneaky:
  33. Black_Bullet

    tunning vs boost psi

Yes^ you just have to pay attention to detail on cars pushed like that. From the tune to the hard parts down to the type of spark plugs being used. ( NGK BR7ES non projected tips worked best for me.) I have 272 cams btw, the cams didnt make too big a difference in tuning timing. My car was tuned...

Are you running without a waste gate line or just with the mbc cranked all the way down? Closed external waste gate- my ported e316g spiked beyond 40psi and tapered to around 30 at 7k which quickly resulted in its death. Im curious of airflow numbers as well, Ive seen maxed out evo3 logs pulling...
  36. Black_Bullet

    tunning vs boost psi

Yes, with supporting mods, a big intercooler, and proper timing that shouldnt be so surprising. The 26psi was mainly through the lower rpms and mid range, it would taper off to 24psi by redline. With 1g pistons timing started low around 10 degs, seen mid teen degs in the midrange, and peaked at...

    tunning vs boost psi

With that setting I used to run into knock hiccups in 5th gear because the 16g spooled so fast id be literally riding down the highway in boost the whole time above 75mph. At least I think its related to that extended closed loop? MPG did improve though.

Did you tune on the dyno? In regards to actually dialing the timing aggressively for mbt or is it just a whatever tune? Because thats a really damn good trap speed for a 16g.I see you have 9.0 CR, id like to assume with the ethanol more timing adv could still be used to optimize power a little...

Err speaking of that my evo3 died shortly after that. :aha: A week after I did those 40psi no waste gate line pulls I left it at 30psi for awhile because it was night and day from my typical 25psi i used to run, it was likely around 400whp and it would only fall off 3 or 4 psi by redline at the...

    tunning vs boost psi

My evo316g felt best on pump at 25-26psi. Night and day difference over just running 20-21 psi. Id shoot for that psi with a low 11 afr and then tune the timing accordingly after that. On ethanol the 16g continued to make more power even beyond 30psi. Not very efficient beyond 30psi but depends...

    Holset Turbos, PART 7

Like they were saying boost doesnt equal airflow.. Theres no linear comparison here, its going to be more so dependant on tuning, hard parts and rpm's revved out to. FWIW, on my setup the 56mm 6/12blade hx40 at 24psi pulled harder than my evo316g at 25psi with the same tune, and only spooled...

Mines is on the car- Hx40 56mm billet 6/12blade, & BEP bolt on housing. Spools pretty good, 24psi reached about 500-600 rpm slower than my e316g, which is low 4k range w/ kelford272s & Hawver intake manifold. As far as the butt dyno goes, it doesnt have the little quick stabs like the 16g but...

    My new e85 16g setup!!

From my research, and the people I have spoken with, generally people start having issues with the stock tranny after 400ft/lbs torque.
