Yeah they can, it can be kinda tricky. Did you use the vfaq for an installation guide? http://vfaq.com/mods/timingbelt-1G.html
I've always had to pull the cam gears towards each other a little extra when fitting the belt so when tension is applied they line up exactly. I've never had an issue...
Yes, it is lowered. I'd tell you by how much but it was lowered when I got it and I haven't bothered to find out by how much (I know, I'm a lazy f*** sometimes haha)
I'm re-doing the suspension sometime soon though so I don't really care! ;)
Hey thanks! Yeah, I take great pride in keeping it as nice as possible, like most of us DSMer's probably. A nice clean 1G especially with a tucked/clean engine bay can be a beautiful thing! I know my head always turns that little bit extra for a clean looking one!
You're absolutely correct here, 1g's are not classically beautiful and I think that's why I love them. They are scrappy fighters with a ton oh heart. My friend with the G35 hates the way the 1g looks, but has a ton of respect for them and understands why I like them.I also agree that more tire...
Haha yeah, I don't recall ever seeing them on a DSM before. I'll probably end up getting something with a dish (because I'm in love with lips on a 1g) But, if he wants to give 'em to me? Hell yeah I'll rock them. Fitment is great FYI. The one I had on the was a 225, I'm pretty curious what the...
hey, you still looking to get this going? I've got a couple buddies with nice rides, not DSM's but still willing to show. Just got my AWD going again and really want to meet up with some other DSMer's! I'm really close to Oscars, are you? Maybe we can start small? You, me, and some friends? I'm...
Ok, here it is. Car is a 92 Tsi, that had been sitting for just over a year. Just finished dropping in a fresh build (not my first). I touched nothing electrical other than the basic disconnect/reconnect everything. As far as I can tell all the wiring looks good, there are no blown fuses. The...
Installing new ACL bearings today, pistons and rings come tomorrow and dropping it all in over this weekend, hooray!
On another note I really need to update my profile pic, that was three 1g's ago!
Car is a 1g TSI FWD pretty much bone stock.Hey I just made a trip over the mountains out to Bend. On the way over I started getting a really bad misfire on my number four cylinder. The car is running really rough, but I limped it to my friends. The problem is that I am not getting any CEL. I...
Word to the wise, don't stay up all night doing an engine swap. It's not worth making a really NOOB mistake and putting on your tensioner pulley on backwards. I think that just may be my problem.
I've tried searching for someone with the same sound, but no luck. I just put a new bottom end on and a fresh head gasket. All timing components are new and it does not sound like it is coming from over there. I have new valve stem seals and new 3g lash adjusters with less than 2000 miles on...
Not flooded. Here is a question though, If I spun the CAS by hand and heard the injectors fire, is it still possible that when I am actually cranking it their not? I tested my injector wire clips and I'm not getting battery voltage. Hardly any voltage in fact. I tested my resistor pack and got...
well I managed to get spark but STILL won't start. It cranks and cranks, but will not even attempt to fire. I have tested the fuel pump using the test connector behind the battery. The pump turns on as soon as you connect the lead, but when I turn the key to the "on" position there is no initial...
Ill have to do a run through on the wiring. I've done a quick visual inspection on all wiring on top of the engine and couldn't spot any problem areas. I did have one other question; the haynes manual speaks of another test where you connect the negitive test lead the "body of the coil pack"...
Car is a 92 TSI. In testing the coil packs I have found my secondary resistance to be low. Haynes manual says it should be between 11.3k and 15.3k. Mine, both between 1 and 4, and 2 and 3 test at 9.8k. My question is, can it give a no spark condition with it only being 2 or 3 K low? I have...
Great questions. over the last few weeks I have been looking for some consistency in what external factors might be playing a part (like weather) and could find none. The voltage does not drop significantly when various accessories are turned on or off. The voltage has been anywhere between 9...
Here is the deal: My volt gauge (tested to be accurate) will from day to day, hour to hour read different. At times, 13.5-14v. Pretty normal. However, other times will be as low as 9.5-10v. The weird part is that until lately I have had no drive-ability issues. But, then yesterday it turned over...
Like the title says...
It also has a bit on the backside.
Been having serious running issues. Doesn't idle correctly, barely rev's and sounds like a horrid misfire. Once you can get it past about 4000rpms it boosts and pulls hard/perfectly. Already replaced the CAS, plugs, wires, and coil...
I saw a white 1g GSX and its owner on the side of the road near Clackamas Community College on my way to school this morning and was going to stop to offer some help but when I came back by, the owner was gone. Just the car was there. :(If you're on tuners, let me know how things went! I...
I live just a few miles from English's shop, I have a lot of experience removing/installing motor and trans and I would be willing to help for a bit of extra cash. PM me if you want to talk more and figure out a good time.I'm guessing the motor is a 1g 4g63?
Thanks, that helps a great deal. Now, where to get a new one? doesn't look like any of my local parts stores carry the whole assembly.I found a kit from JNZtuning so i'm going to replace the whole assembly then pull the trans back out and replace the pivot ball and the throwout bearing. Maybe...
Kind of a newbie question but, what all is included in the clutch pedal assembly? The clutch pedal spring, the pedal its self and the the rod going over to the master cylinder?
Alright, I replaced both my clutch master and slave cylinder on my 1g at the same time, the problem that I came across is that the rod coming from the NEW master cylinder is about 15mm to 20mm SHORTER than the old one. I have it threaded in only about two threads on the rod and still cant get...
I am running a 2g MAF with 550's and a walbro 190 in my 1g with no tune and have great power and 32 mpg freeway. Although as soon as I can I will be getting link. I'm just saying it can be done without a tune...
Oh I know, I would love to have the beautiful VR4 my 60 year old neighbor has sitting in his garage that he NEVER drives! :ohdamn:
I was just being sarcastic with the girl because she was trying to BS me.
Ok, i understand that but then why would porting not help performance as stated by DSM-ONSTER?I am missing the stock seal ring, so if I port the 14b to match the E3 manifold that WOULD be better for performance correct? I don't see why it wouldn't lol
Ok this may sound like a newb question but what missing the stock seal ring have to do with it? i'd rather ask and look dumb then be ignorant about it!
Not exactly a dsm'er but my friends GF when I went outside to leave their houseHer: is that turbo?
Me: yeah
Her: AWD?
Me: no, FWD
Her: Oh, those suck, only AWD's are good for anything
Me: yeah? you have a AWD DSM?
Her: no, but my ex-boyfriend had a 3000GT twin turbo
Me: Oh nice! (genuinely)...
I have a secondary question, I have an EVO III manifold ordered and on the way, my plan was to bolt it right up but now the more I read, the more I think I should port my 14b to match the 7cm manifold, I know I can go without porting but how much much of a difference will it make porting it?
Well, i'm glad to hear that this is pretty normal. I plan on keeping the 14b just the way it is for at lest the next couple of months but I will be looking for a (real) big 16g soon to match the 7cm exhaust housing on the EVO III manifold I have on the way.
As far as why the inside of my...
In the pics you can see the one major crack and several smaller ones. My question is, am I in serious danger of a blown turbo if I keep running it like this? I don't know exactly how long its been like this. I do know that I have not seen any loss of performance.
Hey man that was great! I am a musician and have a recording studio, with your permission I would like to cover your song and release it as a single! And maybe a hidden track on my album with credit to you of course haha. What do you think?
I was looking at your list of mods on your profile and was wondering how many psi you are running and what kind of fuel mods you have? It could be a fuel issue or spark plugs/wires. I was having the same sort of trouble for a while. Until I checked my spark plug gap and found it to be way off...
