Continuing on...Replaced the fender sealant. Both sides. Before I got the sideskirt back on I wanted to make sure the inside was protected so it doesn't rust out again. someone had mentioned Eastwood's internal frame coating before so I tried it out. It's very similar to POR15, but in...

Finished up the patch and lower door sill area this weekend. While I was prepping the new patch panel for paint. I noticed a bubbling of some rust on the door sill. I sanded and smoothed it to also prepare for paint.I did a lot of sanding this weekend. I used filler to fill the low spots...

Finally got the new patch panel all situated but had a bit of a detour while I was doing it. I got the new patch all welded in. Had to stitch weld it since the metal is so thin here (about 18 gauge). I'm no welder, but I got it done and it's solid. Here it is all welded and grinded smooth...

Yes, FF you have to reapply as it will just wear away eventually. Using inside the tunnel in this case I think it'll last pretty close to forever. I'm going to get the Eastwood stuff and use it inside the frame though and see how it holds up.

Interesting. I'll check it out. I used FF because I've been using it on the bottom of my pickup for the last two years or so and it still looks flawless and I'm in the rust belt. I like Eastwood stuff so I'll check it out, thanks!

This week I needed to tackle the huge rust hole underneath the driver's side fender. You remember this hole?I cut the new piece out of the donor part I was sent awhile back.Lots of trimming and hammering and I got it damn close. Before I tacked it in, I wanted to take care of the...

I wanted to get the gauges all done this weekend, BUT I basically re-did everything I did last week too. I just wasn't a fan of the bullet connectors and how they looked...it was quite a mess under there, so I found some wire connectors. Basically WAGO's. Figured I'd give them a shot. They...

Still wiring up everything this week. Kinda boring but has to be done. Worked on getting the gauges and the control harness for the LC-2 all setup. I wanted to de-pin, pin #4 on the ECU harness so I could make a pigtail to hookup the connection for the wideband controller, but I tried for an...

I get everything on Amazon. Just search for "automotive wire" and pick your gauge. I bought a pack of six, 100ft rolls in a few gauges. The solder sticks are easy enough to find and the for the screws just search "plastic screw cover" and you'll find a bunch.

Continued with the oil pressure gauge this weekend as well as getting the gauge pillar installed. First thing I needed to do was lengthen the oil pressure sender wiring so I could route it in a way not to get caught up in the belts. I routed all wiring through the steering grommet and I wanted...

Weird, I thought I had updated this awhile back...anyway, here we go.My door handle was squeaking, and while I had the door panel off I noticed the moisture barrier was not sticking very well, so I added more caulking to get it to stick better. Very secure now. Put the door panel back on...

So, after I made my latest post I got to thinking about how to fix that rusted out area. I decided to reach out to Stephen of Kannapolis Auto Parts (Formerly Miller Import Parts) and see if he would be willing to cut out an oversized patch from a donor car he might have in his yard. As luck...

That's the problem. There's a mounting point for the fender down there all rusted away. :notgood:So far with the Benz, I have tinted the windows, full PPF to protect the satin paint and I did a Eurocharged Stage 1 Tune. I put it away for the winter two weeks ago. I'll be putting wheel...

    1Gb Talon Rust Revival

Small update for you guys. I had some time last weekend so took care of a few minor things I've been meaning to jump on.First things first, I wanted to address my door handle squeaking a bit ever since I did all that stuff inside the door panel. So, off the door panel came (broke more clips...

Continued and finished the fender today. Wasn't thrilled with the smoothness of the finish after last wek so I did some more sanding with 400grit sandpaper. Smoothed out the areas of concern, then re-primered them. After it was dry, I then wetsanded the entire fender with 600grit sandpaper...

No, not at all. POR actually stands for "Paint Over Rust". Just scrape all the really flaky stuff off and go to town. Two coats for sure, waiting about 2 hours between coats. Then topcoat after a day or two. If you can get to both sides of the rusty area that would be best. go back a ways...

And I'm back...the Benz is in the shop getting full PPF on it, so I thought I'd take this opportunity while I have more garage space to get some things done on the Talon.Firs thing I wanted to do was replace my fuel/brake line separators. I had the new brackets made for me and modified the...

I recently bought a new project I'm been meaning to pick up for awhile. this one just happened to fall into my lap so I had to snatch it up. New-ish, C63S AMG with only 6000 miles on it. Fully loaded. If you're not aware, it's a v8 with twin turbos. So you can expect that I'll be upgrading...

Ok, I'm back. Had to take some time away from the Talon because we got a new pup and he is a handful. Doesn't allow for much time to do much of anything. Having two dogs is dramatically more difficult than one well-trained dog. At least for now. I'm sure it will be easy later. This is...

Here are those pics as promised. I clamped it to the edge of my workbench and used an angle grinder to remove material in the center like I mentioned above.
  26. Silverspyder

    1Gb Talon Rust Revival

Yeah, I can grab a pic this weekend. Pretty simple really, use an angle grinder to grind away material at the center of the pliers when they are open. It allows you to push the end of the pipe further into the mouth of the pliers and get the bead further in from the edge of the pipe. Not...

Last week I finished up that body panel. Getting the rust and holes repaired. Now, I am NOT a body guy. I don't have much experience in it, but wanted to try some things and see how it turned out. This area is underneath the sideskirt, so it didn't have to be perfect, but I wanted to...

A few things done this weekend...first, I decided to teach myself how to weld. Bought a welder and all the accessories needed and will practice until I'm at least proficient enough to do it on the Talon. Something I've been meaning to learn for many years.Anyway, got that all setup, then I...

This weekend I wanted to take care of a few small things. As I mentioned above, I had new brake/fuel line brackets fabricated for me. these ones are a little thicker steel and should last. But I wanted to make sure, so I prepped them, then POR15'd them. that oughta keep them from rusting...

I appreciate that! Welcome to the show. ;-) I agree, I'm not into the roll cage/weight reduction rides. Not my thing. I want power, but also the amenities and comfort. Believe me, it killed me to pull the A/C...the only reason I did was because it hasn't worked in years so I figured I...

I've had the 3g wiper nozzles sitting around for a bit so figured I'd work on that yesterday. They don't just bolt up to the original lines like stock as they have a 90deg bend built into the nozzle itself. I wanted to eliminate the crappy looking mess of hoses that runs along the bottom of...

This weekend was all about finishing the wiring harness and redoing some fuel lines...I decided to route the main bundle underneath the coil bracket. You can see where I zip tied the bulk of it to the small hole on the bracket. Keeps it nice and secure. With that done, I could remount the...
