Yes you don't need the maft if you have ecmlink. I just took the maft off the talon I bought. I got the gm cable and it made things so easy.

There is nothing wrong with buying a turbo off ebay. Just make sure its not a knock off. There are plenty of legitimate turbos and sellers on there. Just like with everything else in life you have to be careful when buying. And those turbos do look small.

Hit the junkyard. I go and pull clips, plugs, wires, good bolts and such. The junkyards in my area don't charge for that type of miscellaneous stuff so I take what I can.
