Nice work thus far, sorry about the belt.I read the whole thread and I have to give you some nice props. I love these one off fab jobs. I hope your head works out and your belts don't skip.Cheers.
Hey guys, my horn sounds like it is shorting out funny before it powers the horn. Both horn switches completely depress but the horn will sputter, like a dying animal or stuttering engine. It is not loud either, and can barely be heard in the cockpit. Where should I start?
buy the car for cheap because you tell the guy "people on the forums think its rod knock." If it goes on the way home, it goes, but you got a 2g for cheap. then do a rebuild. Either way I think you win. Whats the price and mileage on the car? Rust?
Alas, I drove from Canada, thru loads of Rain, to find an empty Norwalk :( But now I'm back in good ol Akron Ohio, I'll catch everyone at the reschedule for sure!
You have a bad cam angle sensor I'd bet. Its easy to check as only two bolts hold the sensor in. Mark it with a sharpy so you can put it back in and be sure you pull it out when the crank is in TDC position. Pull it out and if it crumbles apart in your hand you know why.you should also...
I can tell you about one hearty launch on my rebuilt tranny. Oddly enough the transmission was flawless. It was the differential that failed. It wasn't the pin out of the differential either. Some talked about that rotating out of place. Nope, I managed to grind the teeth off off the spider...
Plus one here. Thats a great idea. But why hasn't the OP checked his fluid levels in everything? At the rate it is dripping you should be able to notice what is leaking. If your coolant levels are very low, thats it. If your power steering fluid is very low, thats it.
It looks like dilapidated axle grease. Its goopy enough that I'd call it grease but liquid enough that I'd call it oil. Look under the car and check the rubber boots on your axles. Make sure that there are still metal bands around the rubber boots. Also the power steering pump is on that...
I'd say his list looks good. Stick with your seven bolt its less hairy than doing a 6 bolt swap. This will also give you a great bottom end motor to bolt on whatever else you want.
Argh, good call about the install kit. I missed the second part of the post. Yeah, 14b with install kit works fine, its all bolt on replacement.+1 to using a t25, it will cost you less.
Disconnect the hose on the cold compressor inlet, put your finger in there and try and wiggle the blades. If you have shaft play that is noticeable, you have a blown turbo. The smoke is also a good sign that your turbo is blown.Search the classifieds for a turbo.
You seem to have made up your mind but just so you know, I had identical compression results on my TSI and I ran a 14.2 no problem. So don't worry about it, just keep looking for oil in your exhaust. You could sea foam it??
+1 that would have to have been a MAJOR deck job. Why don't you get a known good head out of the classifieds here on the forums? Put it back to stock and work from there. If by chance the head was shaved so much that the dowels can't let it seal then you need a new head because that head is...
I'd move to Japan solely for the amazing machines you guys can run over there. Not to mention the parts are still in existence. So how much does a built VIP ride like that cost you?
your poor car even looks like its crying. You know they have Accent hatch turbos in CA? I saw one when I worked in Ottawa for a few months. Wierdest thing.
No worries, I have the rule book. All the mods listed qualify for SCCA and NASA rallies. Here is the update guys: It turns out a huge build list like that takes a bit more time than expected. This is what we got done.FUEL: New fuel pump and filter. Still waiting on the SS lines to...
And oh yeah, the newly built motor in the rx-7 has 2k on it.thekellbeast - how much? and whats your 1/4 mile time on that 18g?EDIT: I'm not quite quite sure why this thread got nuked but I'll do one last update. Today, June 12, 2007 I bought the RX-7. The plan is to fix her up and sell...
OOF, I did mention money pit right? You think I could get into an evo and keep it stock?Ok all, thanks for the input, lets have a follow up:I have been around wankels since I was 8. My dad actually raced a rx-7 turbo II motor in his old 74 VW Super Beetle and currently owns a NA 89...
So there is a bit of a back story to this thread. I have this friend who blew is 1g NA and tried to do a turbo swap in it. He got really frustrated with the whole process so sold the motor and 1g shell. Then in a joke I said you should just buy my car. The next day he offered me 5,000 for...
Ok, while I agree that the rotaries are garbage when it comes to reliability, I won't agree that a v8 motor swap is the way to go. Before you make up your mind, look at this link:
http://www.atkinsrotary.com/
For the amount of money you are ready to pour into a V8 swap, you could get a VERY...
I think the idea here is a less condensed spray. I like the idea actually. Better air fuel mixing less fuel management needed over the 1000s. I like it!
Thanks for the reply here. I don't know why I didn't think of it myself. I got a different logger, connected it and cleared the code. I put a good 100 miles on it now without it coming back. I really really think the logger I was using generated the problem. Thanks for the feedback...
OK: If you have money to burn, go with DSM link and the 95 CPU.Otherwise, stick with the tuning you have now and the 97 CPU. If the 135 MPH governor really bothers you, you can desolder it from the CPU.
The only difference between the two CPUs are the FWD are throttled to 135mph and the AWD have no governor. I have heard talk of the FWD run slightly better fuel mixtures than the AWD CPU but I can't verify that. And yeah, run dsmlink on a 95 CPU if you can. But if you can't afford DSMlink...
OK, this is this weekends build list:pics = after this weekend.Parts = getting bilstien shocks for the front and mk2 shocks in the back. Gonna clip the front springs in the front to adjust the ride hieght for the stiffer shocks. (Anyone know where to find some bilstiens for cheaperish...
You would have a high risk of getting random misfire doing a CAS conversion. Which is what my problem is. If you research "random misfire" you will get a ton of threads for people who get CELs on a 1g CAS swap. It's not hard to do the wiring, but it is time consuming, you do have to do some...
I'm down for a few bucks if we can get a plan together.I propose a shell of an AWD purchased for 300ish, even from the forums.Someone interested in the project must have a motor for it.Nitrous is probably a good way to go for cheap power, 16g turbo,I can get us a front mount...
I'm working on getting the local tire shop to give us some medium sticky bfgoodrich tires. My brother has some stiff gas adjustables that we can vary the stiffness on depending on tarmac or dirt.If there is interest, i know its not a dsm, I would be willing to a photo journal buildup on the...
http://www.magnusmotorsports.com/tech/1gina2g.pdfthere is the vfaq that you will need to wire up a new CAS for the 95 computer. Read through it, I can't stress enough how much you should simply swap wiring harnesses and CPUs.
You will HAVE to use the AWD fly wheel. The 95 engine has a Cam angle sensor, and a crank position sensor plug on the wiring harness. The 97 uses a relocated CAS and an different signal plug. If you are going to keep the 95 wiring harness and CPU, you will need to do a CAS conversion by...
Well sometimes when a CAT goes bad you'll start hearing a bubbling or popping noise. If you wind it out to wide open throttle and you hear the popping again I would suggest a bad cat. Jack the car up and shake the exhaust near the cat, if you hear rattling you have lost a chunk of your...
Hey Everyone,I have been really excited to get into rally racing so I finally found a car I could afford. Rather, one my brother and I could afford. We bought a 1981 Rabbit GTI. We'll put the roll cage in it this weekend. Stay tuned for pics! Its super ugly orange but a fully built...
Whoa whoa whoa! You don't need a new head if the sparkplug stripped it our. Look into something called Heli-coil.Here is a link to get you started: http://www.sjdiscounttools.com/hel5546-9.htmlA brief summary: Heli-coil is like re-tapping the threads, but it doesn't carve anything out...
I needed to move out of my apartment so I had to swap the 1g cas in for that reason. I didn't have a garage to get to the CPS at the time. I was unable to get the timing cover off and it was about 34 degrees when all this was going on. I'd love to go back to the way its suppose to be...
Thanks for the reply.I swapped the CAS because my 2g Crank Position Sensor went bad over winter. The only way to get rid of the misfire is to disconnect the TPS. Since the car has a MAF, the TPS is overkill, except to signal WOT on autos and deceleration on all cars. The MAF controls the...
Okay, this is unexplainable:
I did the 1g cas conversion to my 2g motor. I ran the car over 500 miles with not a single problem. Just when I think I'm ok, I plug in the logger to check everything out. About 10 seconds after the logger is run I get a CEL. Wouldn't you know it, random...
