Not to sound so offensive, but, things just don't seem the same anymore.I swear I remember a time when DSM'ers could go out of their way for one another and not get screwed over -- lend out tools; lend out extra parts. Members who were egger to offer their hard earned knowledge, egger to...
Remove the drive belt from your power steering pump and drive the car around for a day or two. Keep the fluid in. Just remove the belt. This way you'll see how the car drives if you do decide to 'pull the lines', as you say.Regarding your second question: I don't believe the 1g manual...
I'd wait on the cam's, there will be plenty of other, more necessary, things for you to spend you money on at this moment.I'd definitely suggest you purchase ECMLink asap.IMO the best part about owning DSMLink is how it encourages the user to struggle through learn every inch of their...
There's a good chance your turbo is leaking coolant into your intake system (lower IC pipe). As long as you stop driving the car ASAP, you may be lucky enough to simply swap in a good turbo or get your broken turbo rebuilt; this is assuming there isn't any engine damage due to the coolant...
Personally, in my early dsm day's, I had a hell of a time with blown headgaskets, I trashed two graphite gaskets before I switched to ARP's and a Mitsu MLS headgasket.I was trying to remember if I did the studs and MLS at the same time or if I did the ARP's - blown - and then installed the...
FYI, clean that block when you get it back... and then clean it again! You have to clean it really really good! Any metal shavings can work their way into the main/rod bearings and cause issues or wreck and new rebuild. You can't trust that the machine shop will clean it well enough if even at...
Make sure you don't have the wires wrong over by the coil pack, I've heard of people plugging wire from the ignition system into the AC somehow. If you haven't already, check for spark at all four spark plugs. i.e. pull the plug wires, one by one inserting a fresh spark plug into the wire...
Throwing parts at a car when it breaks is natural, and in an old car, not such a horrible idea; however, at this point Slow2gen is right, you need to test some stuff. As I read you post I was waiting for someone to say that the battery was good. You do have good voltage from the battery right...
There's a reason why the dsm community is so knowledgeable and willing to help each other... we have to be because our cars are as ways broken and we need the help from our fellow dsm'ers!!! It's no joke when you ask a fellow member here about their car and they tell you that it is broken more...
P.S. Your going to break things, I hope you know that. As soon as you start turning up the boost, you will break your car. The good news is that, your DSM is already old and it's likely to break itself no matter what you do, so.... have fun with it.However, if you purchased this car as your...
If you don't take the car to 7k very often, or dont feel conferrable with that (like me) take it up to 6k or 6.5k, but make sure you run it to what ever rpm you'll likely take it to when that neighborhood civic trys to cut you off pulling onto the freeway... if your likely to run it to red line...
a/f reading from a logger, I take it..? Pay close attention to your knock count/sum. That will tell you a lot about the condition of your tune. If you can do a 3rd gear pull from 2.5k to 7k with out any knock (or less then 10 counts***). Turn up the boost, and try it again.*** someone...
You'll likely be limited by your fuel system; your 550's will top out before your 16G, assuming its big 16g or better. You should be able to run 20 psi, give or take a few psi. It's less about your internals and more about your ability to tune the engine properly (with a 16g)... meaning...
if you like pulling your head, spray it with copper and run it. I think it will be fine.If you plan on running lots of boost.... IDK, it's your call. I'd run it up to 22'ish without concern.
The post above has all the info you need for the moment. So, that being said, I'll give you a few words of encouragement: These things happen; broken bolts happen when working on cars. The good news is, since these things are common, there are proven methods and special tools/techniques to...
does it start fine?
After starting, idle fine (ie. no issues).
If yes, can you blip the gas without issue (tap gas peddle with foot down 2 inches quickly)?
Can you bump the clutch from a stand still, just enough to make the car role -then quickly put the clutch back in; does the issue start...
I'm not.If you currently drive a 420a and when you ask yourself about your long term goals and they turn out to include a turbo and an awd pipe-dream... you may need to reassess your situation.Maybe, just maybe, your driving the wrong car and should think about selling.P.S. Suggesting that...
I'd pull the timing belt cover and turn the engine over making sure there was nothing wrong witht he belt. Then I'd suspect a CV shaft, but thats just a guess at this point.
We understand what they look like... still you'll have some luck hammering a large socket over the entire (round outside) lock. You may try cutting, or weakening the edge of the socket so that it will split as you pound it on. Try just pounding it on first. An other idea is a air power...
check to make sure all of your fuel injector wire harnesses are properly seated onto the injector. If you have messed around in that area maybe one got bumped. If the bucking issue feels like really harsh vibration through the engine and it is some what random, this may be the issue.
The first one mounts to the PS unit. It is a pressure sensor type device that tells the ecu when the power steering unit is being used so it can raise the engine rpm's a little - fighting the extra load the PS belt places on the engine when used. I think that wire is grounded when pressure...
Well said... however, I don't think it necessary to call out a members post as you have, implying that he has no idea what he is talking about, and them turn around and say nearly the exact same thing in your post with a little more info. :banghead:IMO, You took what could have been an A+...
Yeah, I'd still like to have the tuning session meats!Maybe we'll just have to have the first one at my house, seeings how no one else has put up their garage as being the hot spot for the get-to-gethers... Oh, and my transmission is making strange noises, so I've chosen to drive my Jetta...
http://forums.evolutionm.net/evo-engine-turbo-drivetrain/467452-4g64-w-96mm-crankshaft-great-idea.htmlI've just spent the last hour reading every inch of this, above-linked, thread posted over at evolution.net.If you're looking to educate yourself regarding engine internals / engine...
You may also want to consider heating your parts in the oven before welding them and be careful not to over-heat the housing. Unfortunately, I can't find or recall the exact temps, but do remember that it should be done in 2 or 3 heating steps. I'll attempt to update if possible....
Update: It looks like the whining sound I've been hearing is definitely coming from the transmission.Ether way, I really appreciate all the response from you guys, it helps to have someone to bounce ideas off of and the general forum can fail in that regaurd from timt to time.I got...
research the starting issue when using Aeromotive fpr's &/or Walbro fuel pumps; it's a pita, and can kill starters.I think it's the Walbro anti-drain back seal, not the fpr, that allows fuel pressure to fall when the car is turned off-- but you should look into it for yourself.I...
I've found myself -- not so much shifting for sixth, but reaching for fourth in order to shift into 5th, but already being there and grabbing the air.I suggest taking measures to quiet the engine and exhaust system as heard from inside the cabin. This could be done with Dinamat on the...
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/378280-awd-drive-train-question.htmlWe can talk here or in the other thread, what ever works. Maybe we can keep the diagnostics to the other thread and post the "let's meet-up and take a good look at her" to this thread. Thanks guys; I'm going...
With the front of the vehicle off the ground and on jack-stands, are the front tires supposed to be able to turn freely with the rear wheels still on the ground -in gear or not in gear? When I turn one side of the cars front wheels -the other sides' tire rotates in the opposite direction as it...
I've ran four different manufactures timing belts - two of which preformed as expected, a third was replaced early after a blown head gasket,
and the other broke catastrophically causing serious cylinder head damage.Belt #1 OEM
- This belt was on the vehicle when purchased, it may have...
Glad we were able to meet up.If you do end up researching the MMcd softwere... that reminds me, you'll need to re-sync the mmcd software to the palm because the batteries died.Send me your email address in a pm and I'll send you the version i was using; you may have trouble downloading...
Hey buddy,Hell yeah, I have a pocket logger you can barrow for a week. I live in Lynnwood and work in Shoreline so I'm pretty close to you.Get in touch with me here on DSMTuners or give me a call on my cell phone - I've left you my number on your voice mail this morning.I'm always...
According to DSM315, you'd want to place this check valve on the feeder-side of the fuel system and not the return side because it's the fuel pump that needs the one way valve - allowing fuel to be leaked back into the tank - not the return line as you've implied by place the check valve in the...
Thanks Dsm.I don't recommend running that thin of oil, and this is why i pulled mine out so quick. I'd agree, and have argued in support of in the past, that OEM equipment and specifications are of higher quality and standard than the majority of the aftermarket crap being bolted, strap and...
