A gentleman in Milwaukee. I've agreed to buy it back from him if he ever plans to sell, but he has had it on the back burner due to other projects and has not had it out much that I know of.
The system does not use the fill and drain plugs. Fitting on bottom of tranny for send. Fluid goes into the filter first, then the pump, then the cooler before dumping back into the top of the trans.
I'm really not sure - probably at least another quart. I have a dry break fitting on the outlet of the pump. That way to change the fluid I simply attach a drain hose and turn the pump on to pump out all of the old fluid. I then fill the trans as you normally would - turn the pump on again to...
Hello? Hello? I'm not sure how closely this thread is followed......For any of the owners of the former Archer cars..... The SCCA is working to bring in former class winners to their 50th anniversary celebration Sept 19-22 at Road America. I've volunteered to take the #33 car there -...
I talked a bit with John Archer just today and it appears that one of the "black and yellow" 2g cars may come up for sale soon. We had a good talk about some of the old Archer cars....
I was just trying to get back to the #32 car that was mentioned here back in mid Feb. There was a post regarding the #32 car from a friend of the owner and the possibility of it being modified.>>>>>>>>>>>>
my friend out of arkansas actually bought one of them as well. this one was raced in...
Sorry - Didn't see your note about buying the car. I had e-mailed Jeff again to see what was going on with it........So now back to the #32 Thrifty car. Is that thing getting chopped up, or do we know what is going on with it?
I bought my #33 car from that exact same ad in Grassroots Motorpsorts in 2005. Jim from Arkansas at that time owned the #33 car and also the #32 car. He had listed them for sale in GRM. I considered both, but ended up buying the #33 car. You'll see in some of my earlier posts some pics of...
Here is the press kit and initial media release info for the first Mitsu GSXSome pictures that I received straight from Mitsu of the Eclipse Spyder speedster. I believe the car was actually constructed at the time by one of the tuner shops.
Has anyone bought that #34 yet? I know of a few people who had some interest. Apparently it was purchased from the Archers by Chuck Cassaro. He renumbered it #38 and ran the endurance race with it then sold it to someone out east.... but not the person who currently owns and is selling it..
Good info - I actually connected with Cassarro today before reading your post and he confirmed that they renumbered the #34 car to #38 as you mention.......>>>
Hi Scott,
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you but I am setting up at the Race and Performance Expo in St. Charles, IL...
I was under the impression that most of the 1g cars were FWD. My #33 car is FWD and I know that the #32 Thrifty car is FWD. One thing I wonder is how many cars of each number may have been out there at some point. In the picture above you can see two #33 cars, mine is the one on the right...
I'm always interested in learning more on the car. I too have a collection of articles, dealership info, press packets on the 1g and 2g cars. I've talked to the Archer's about the car but they either can't remember much about the cars or are to busy or disinterested to talk about them. I've...
I agree it would be a shame to chop up the #32 car; but that's just my opinion. I have preserved the #33 car as it raced years ago. These cars can still make fun track day cars just as they were constructed years ago - with appropriate safety updates and maintenance done. The Thrifty #32...
Hey Jim.... yes, there have been a few DSM's at RA, but with three boys racing quads, a business to run, etc.. the #33 car has not been to a track in a few years!! Maybe this summer??
Is your friend in Arkansas Jim? I bought my #33 car out of Arkansas from him. At the time he owned the 1993 #33 car and also the 1990 #32 car, if I remember correctly. Does he still own the 1990 #32 car? Here are some pics I have that he sent me of the #32 car.The #32 car was much more...
The car is original; as it was when it finished racing in 1993. The car won the SCCA Class B championship in 1993 and then was owned by Archer until being purchase by the David Nielsen collection in Traverse City, MI. It was then purchased by Jim Dale in 2001 before I bought it in 2005. Jim...
Good info, Scott, but I think that for a person's first track day the R4-S is still a good compromise pad. You're generally not going to see the speed necessary to ruin a pad in your first day out. You are correct that once you bring your speed up a bit you'll need dedicated track pads...
Just viewing this thread for the first time. We need to back up here and start from scratch. First off, do not take advice from anyone who does not have extensive experience personally with these cars on a road course. There is a lot of misinformation already in prior posts. (Suspension...
As was mentioned previously - only install a harness if you have a proper roll cage. Not a roll bar with two door bars, a proper roll cage. It's difficult to use sliders in these cars as it takes a way a bit of headroom. Better to mount via proper brackets directly through the floor with...
I have one mounted on the passenger shock tower. This is a track car, not a DD. You'll have to check the regulations for the organization you'll be running with however, as some require it be accessible from the outside of the car. Mounting it under the hood, however, might work better for a DD.
Running lean melted the pistons. Common result. Cracked piston or ring land is usually detonation related. With an untuned engine who knows what was going on inside that thing.
I used to run the R4-E and now run Hawk pads. I was happy with the Porterfields but they tended to overheat and break up. The Hawks are terrible when cold, but once warmed up they stop a bit better than the Porterfields. The Hawks just seem better when (very) hot.On that note I have two...
I talked with a person who raced the Eclipse back in the 90's that was sponsered by the company. He said they didn't see much of a gain running the Evans product. Coolant temps were about the same on track.
My track car, the old Archer racing car, uses a thicker side mount in the stock location. This setup works great and I have no cooling issues. The car uses the stock radiator and one stock fan. Coolant temps max out around 210 on hot days. the car is ~240 hp at the wheels at 15 psi.
Any help would be appreciated. I've been trying to collect any info I can on my '93 #33 car, including racing history and the HKS brochures and such that the car was in back then.I've contacted Archer Bros, but they really haven't been able to help much with info on the car. From what I...
The best snow vehicle I ever had was a '90 AWD Talon where I swapped on an extra set of stock wheels and Blizzak's in winter. If you intend to do any winter driving I would suggest getting an extra set of cheap wheels shod with good winter tires. This will also then let you run a more...
This is only my expereince here, but the club events tend to be more low-key and relaxed with people willing to help out with car setup and driving tips. This would seem to be the best idea for what this person is looking for. They might even set up a separate "class" if you bring in a group...
I think you would be much better off organizing a group to attend a local autocross event. Stay away from the SCCA events if possible and look for one organized by a local car club.
The inlet and outlet are simply AN fittings welded to the tranny. One pic is of the send fitting at the bottom of the tranny. One pic shows the fluid pump in the passenger footwell. You'll see I've fitted a quick disconnect there. I can then disconnect the line there and attach a drain...
Tranny cooler:
Core is located driver's side front corner. Pump is inside the car on the passenger side footwell. There are two fittings welded to the tranny. A send fitting at the bottom passenger side and a return fitting on top off the tranny. Fluid is pumped out the bottom of the tranny...
No, I'm not going off of what "everyone" is saying. All I'm asking is if anyone has used that air/water setup on a track car in at least 30 min to 45 min track sessions repeatedly for a full day. Mitsu-lover it sounds like you have??
I have a tranny cooler on my track car if anyone needs ideas. That air/water intercooler looks cool and all, but it that a viable option for anything but a drag car?
Andy-One more thing; just out of curiosity - what kind of HP does your DSM and that EVO make? Just would give an idea of the HP difference that can be "made up" with a lighter, better handling car??
Hello Andy - I remember that weekend and seeing you there! My point about the build cost - including purchase price I have less than $10k in my track car. That even includes a tranny rebuild and LSD addition I did last year. And most of the costs I've had were upgrading the safety equipment...
