I have 5 talons. 2 Toys and the rest for parts. It's nice to look out my window and see two sexy front mounts looking at me. Still waiting on parts though, story of my life.
I have a transmission from a 90 sitting here, and it should be in good shape. It's pretty dirty though, but that's to be expected with a used transmission.
I have an ebay evo 3 16g that's in excellent shape, almost brand new, a 2g turbo manifold that's in ok shape, a few stress cracks but nothing i'd worry about, siemens deka 750cc injectors, a hacked 1g MAF, a GM 3bar map sensor, 3 parts cars, and every bolt you can imagine.I also have a...
I bet whoever did the timing belt before you got the car, improperly tensioned it, which caused premature failure. Or they lied and never changed it... Regardless, rocky's info is solid, and timing belts are easy. I'd put money on a bent valve situation. The odds of that NOT happening are...
Right on right on. My 2.3 stroker should be on the street by the end of the weekend I'm hoping. It's been a battle...Timing belt
Power steering/motor mount bracket replacement
Correct alternator tensioner
Alternator replacement
New battery
FP Race turbo manifold
FP HTA68 turbo
Swap...
Ahhh another delay in my progress. I'm getting sent up to Barrow mid April for 5 weeks. The green car (2.3L) might take longer than expected to be on the road...At least I'm getting paid for this, right? :)
Here's my turbo setup for the stroker car btw. I just ordered it from FP. The burn is... RIGHT AFTER I ordered it... I'm talking like less than 24 hours, they put their signature DSM turbo's with the ball bearing upgrade ON SALE!! Such is life... Hope to see you guys (someday?) LOL.
Perfect. 3 Hours is MORE than reasonable! I'll be sure to load my trailer full of rainbow sausages and unicorn steaks, since my DSM has a towing package made for 3 hour 350mi expeditions. I'm so excited!!
I'm no expert, but if you follow the directions that came with ECMLink and hit up the forums, you'll dial it in pretty damned solid for street driving. STFT, LTFT, etc etc. WOT is another story. I usually shoot for 11.7:1 AFR with no more than 3 counts of knock.I usually tune for timing...
My custom ROSS pistons have arrived!! Also my SCE Titan copper head gasket, and my forward facing oil filter. Pics will be up this weekend of my other racing goodies :)
I verified with Underground Performance and they do NOT have an AWD dyno and said nobody in the state has one.If you want to dyno your AWD vehicle, you can purchase a VCE (Viscous Coupler Eliminator) from Sheptrans.com for 100 bucks and install it into your tranny. This will allow you to...
Any of you guys know if there's an AWD Dyno in Anchorage? I know there isn't one in Fairbanks. I really don't wanna send my car to the states to have it tuned. :sosad:
Update:
Due to my friend moving out of town on short notice. He sold me his built 2.3 1994 TSi AWD for 3000 bucks, after he spent 12k on it. I did most of the work, so, it's in a good home. That being said, I'm 3k behind on my project funds now.My crankshaft came in, my intake...
This is a basic guideline for swapping automatic to manual. You'll need:
Clutch pedal assembly
Shifter assembly
Shifter cables
Master cylinder
Line that runs from master cylinder to slave cylinder
Manual transmission (duh lol)
A flywheel (auto cars have a flexplate)
A new clutch is...
I plan on it. I'm working in Paxson right now for another 2 weeks, then I have to head near Mentasta for a week or more, then I have to do some work near the Ruby Cr. bridge, THEN I get to come home and take pics of all the parts stacked up.By the time I get back I should have the crank...
Hey all, I've been doing the DSM gig for years. I'm not active on any forums and I don't hang out with any other car guys. I kinda just do my own thing. My other 4 DSM's were mostly all 16g stuff with minor bolt ons. I've finally decided to pull the trigger. This is all going into a...
Solved I guess... I did the dodge garage mod to my stock bov and tried both the fast release and the port open. In fast release mode, same problem, losing boost. I removed the boost source from the modded port and the boost holds right at 15, or where ever I set it. I'll just keep the mods...
No CELs, my dsmlink setup fried so I'm on stock ecu/injectors. Base boost with no boost controller is 7psi. Anything past 10 and it spikes then falls back. The worst I've seen so far is 15psi spike and falling to 10psi.If I slowly roll into the boost I can almost get it to stay up, only...
Well, it DID run fine at the higher boost level... As soon as I swapped the o2 housing everything changed, I'm baffled. If I run the wastegate straight with no boost controller my gauge reads 7ish psi.
I forgot to add, the boost spikes to 17psi then drops to 15 or so until 4th and 5th gear, then it barely gets past 15psi and drops to 14 usually, sometimes 13.One more thing... On part throttle boost you could feel the power difference between varying boost levels before. Now anything past...
I have a big 16g with a mbc and full 3" stainless turbo back with an evo 3 manifold. Stock ecu/injectors, VRSF FMIC, FIAV blocked tb and a hacked 1g maf. Full ffwd fuel system installed too, fuel pressure at 37.5 psi.The car ran fine at stock boost after several upgrades so I decided it...
Ok final update. Since the car had been sitting for 6 years, the gas had gone bad. I put some fresh pump gas in it and it's been purring like a kitten ever since. Sadly now I have a cooling issue to figure out... that's all easy stuff though. Thanks again for all the help and input, you guys...
Thanks again, your help is greatly appreciated. I should have it all together and possibly running tonight, pending that mystery plug's significance to having the engine run. I think I'll be fine but we'll see...UPDATE: I took both plugs from both harnesses side by side and obviously most...
Ok I got both engines/transmissions/wiring harnesses out of both cars and partially installed the 91 wiring harness into the 90 car. There are 2 connectors in cab that dont match. The one by the passenger side door has all the right wires, just the wrong connector, I already took the pins out...
Now that's what I call an answer! Yeah, that all sounds very straightforward and easy, I've done it all before at one time or another, between the various DSMs I've had. Never done any 90 converting though. Like I said before, I have no idea what the wiring harness goes to once it's inside...
I've searched for about 2 days now and it seems that there used to be a writeup for this on some ecanfix.com site somewhere. Regardless, I'm having trouble locating a few pieces of information.I have a 1990 AWD roller in great shape and a 1991 car that was flipped, but still runs. I want...
Yeah, you guys know how it is though, when you hit a wall it is beyond frustrating. Ive already tried dieelectric grease. I'll check out my CAS, maybe that could be the culprit. I swapped it out thinking maybe it would fix it, maybe it is the connection. I can only work on the car one day a...
Plug wires are brand new, plugs are brand new. I dont like being rude, but I dont like repeating myself either.I'm fairly convinced it is a coilpack problem. The only reason I considered selling the car is it is a 1gb 7bolt automatic car. It was too cheap to pass up at 300 bucks...
I suspect I could have 2 different coilpacks malfunctioning, but it is strange to have one cylinder misfire when it is a wasted spark ignition. As for the mechanical aspects of the car, everything is perfect. There is no reason to waste time with a compression test when I have an...
I have a misfire in cylinder number 3 and when I pull all the plugs and check for spark, all the other plugs light up just fine, and number 3 has a really weak erratic spark. I have changed coilpacks, have a brand new oem transistor, replaced ECU, and CAS and plugs/wires... I'm running out of...
MD756767 is the part number for the bushing.AMS has them here
Automotosports, Inc. :: DSM & Evolution I-III :: DSM Automatic Transmission :: DSM Automatic Transmission Crank Bushing
Good find, thanks!! I do have the spacer that goes around the outside of the crank, my flexplate is tight. I just figured the stub on the end of the torque converter was piloted into the crank via a bushing, instead of just sitting there loose.I think i'll call it good to go then.
I noticed that drawing was for a 2g. Is that stuff compatible with a 1g? I have a 1994 talon with the 1g-7bolt combo. Stupid franken-motor.I hope someone else can offer some insight into this, or more importantly, where to get one of those bushing/spacers/adapters/whatevers. Cant find...
I cant tell either way if my car needs a pilot bushing or not from my searches in the forums. I'm pretty sure it does, so I've been searching for hours and I cant seem to find one anywhere online, with the exception of STM, but theirs is listed for the 2g.Help??This part is for you to...
Hey, just bought a 91 TSi AWD. My only gripe other than the actual problem it has is, its an automatic. With that being said, it shifts fine and the transmission is in good shape.Down to the nitty gritty. Under about 75% to WOT, the engine bucks HARD around 4800-5200rpm. Whoever had...
Thanks for the reply!I have considered that option, but my girlfriend needs a car and I steadfastly refuse to have her drive some garbage. I want her to drive a car that I know how to fix and that I can occasionally steal for my own enjoyment. She isn't very good at driving stick so I...
To start off with, I've had a DSM in the past, a 1991 Talon TSi AWD. I have since gotten rid of the car but managed to save some of my parts in hopes of a new project. My buddy wants to sell me his 1994 Talon TSi. It too is AWD and is the fully loaded model (i figured that out from the...
