1998 Eclipse Spyder GS Rocker Molding

I have a 1998 Eclipse Sypder GS. My driver's side rocker molding was damaged and needs replaced. I called Mitsubishi and they said the this is over $400. I searched eBay and found one but I would rather get one from a supporting vendor. Does anybody know where I can get one of these...

    1998 Talon A/C Not Working.....Compressor Controller?

I did try jumping the pressure switch however it didn't help at all. Everything seems to be pointing to the compressor controller. I've been looking for one to try but I can't find them anywhere new or used. Does anyone know where to get one of these controllers?

    1998 Talon A/C Not Working.....Compressor Controller?

I'm having some problems with my 98 Talon GS's A/C System. The compressor isn't kicking on. I've checked and the refrigerant level is good. I jumped the compressor clutch and it is working ok. I jumped the 2 wires on the dual pressure switch to ground and across each other as described in...

    help balance shaft elimination!!!!!!!!!!!!

I work at a garage and I'm sad to say that some garages do business that way. I get customers all the time that come to me with the same story..even dealers have done it. That is why whenever I recommend something to a customer I sit down and completely explain it to them. I even often show...

Broken axles carrier bearing bolts.... cause? [Merged 11-8]

I had the exact same problem with my 1G. I had to remove the engine to drill out the broken bolts. What a PITA!!!. I used bigger grade 8 bolts to replace them. I thankfully haven't had the problem anymore. If you figure out what the root cause of this is post it so I can prevent from ever...

    AEM Wideband ?

Icarus: The signal going out to the ECU is the same as a "blingy light gauge". Howver the AEM gauge will still read the wideband signal as normal. The white wire is just a filtered analog output.
  10. awdtalontsi1992

    AEM Wideband ?

Yes you can replace your original sensor with the AEM one. This is how my talon is setup. I removed the old sensor and put the new sensor in it's place. Then you take the white wire from the AEM unit and splice it into the O2 sensor feed right at the computer. You are replacing your old...

Which precision measurement tools to get?

I would recommend a good set of micrometers and a bore gauge. The Mitutoyo Micrometers are cheaper and they are good pieces. If you are only going to build a couple engines and won't use them that often then they will be fine if you treat them right. If you plan on using them alot then go...

    Fuel Cell

The solenoids to switch between tanks on trucks I described are electric. All you need to do is hook up a switch to them. You would run a wire to them from the switch. The switches are not directly attached to the solenoids.
  13. awdtalontsi1992

    AEM Wideband ?

You can actually replace your stock sensor with the Wideband. All you have to do is hook up the white wire from the AEM to the O2 sensor feed on you ECU. You just turn the adjustment screw on the back of the AEM so the white wire emulates the output of the stock sensor.

    Honing Cylinders

I would highly not recommend just honing the cylinders without measuring them. Find a buddy with a bore gauge and a micrometer and check the clearences. If they are tighter than Wiseco wants then hone them out alittle and check the bore size often. The piston coating will wear off over time...

    Fuel Cell

You could try putting the tank valves at the fuel rail. Then there would be less area to exhange and cause less delution (yes it is a word). The only downside is that you will have to run two sets of fuel lines. Good luck.
  16. awdtalontsi1992

    Fuel Cell

Well you have a decent idea going but with a couple need safety modifications. You should at all costs not have any fuel lines in the cabin with you. Other wise it seems to be a good idea. The only other problem I see is that if you switch the fuel in the lines and rail will for a short time...

    My First Dsm

I agree with silverbullet. It is best to find an unmolested car to start with. Some of the first things you want to is basic maintanence things. You have to remember you are buying a vehicle that is 17 years old. It's best to get a good solid and reliable car under your feet before you start...

    Cometic HeadGasket

Need help on shift cable install

Installing new shifter cables is not a very hard job. You will have to remove the center consol to get to the shifter easy. The only other trickey part is getting the gromet pushed in correctly into the firewall. It's a pretty simple operation. Pay peticular attention to making sure the...

Extracting the most from your setup... Fluid Dynamics, thermal insulation, etc

I run into people all the time that think they can just bolt up anything to their cars and make more power than the next guy. There is a reason that professionals get paid the big bucks to do what they do. I have seen cars that cost $10,000 to build get spanked by a guy that spent less than...

what should I get with my dsmlink?

DSMLink is designed to work with several different setups. You can keep your stock MAF for now if you want. You will find that it can be over run though. You can switch to a GM MAF with a MAF/T. This is what I would recommend as far as the MAF goes. Also while you are upgrading to DSMLink...

[RESOLVED] Heard it was bad to lower temp.

It is true that on older engines putting a lower temperature thermostat can help with power. This is due mostly to the cooler temperatures helping to hold off detonation slightly. However heat is actually your friend...to a certain extent. The correct coolant temperatures actually aid in the...

    Check Condition of New Shortblock

A Brillow pad will be ok to get the rust off. You should spray a light coat of WD-40 on any exposed machined surfaces to prevent rust until you put it together. When you do go to put it together clean off all the WD-40 and then wipe just the cylinder walls with a very light coat of...

where I should stick my huge Stack temperature sensors (oil and coolant)

You best bet for the oil temp sensor is in the oil pan. The most reliable solution is to weld a bung to the oil pan. You should make sure the sensor is always completely submerged in oil. The bung should be welded on the same level as the bung for the drain plug.My temp sensor for my gauge...

new clutch what else do i need

Most aftermarket clutches do require the longer slave cylinder rod. The 2100 clutch is one of the few that don't require this upgrade. Anything over the 2100 like the 2600 will require this mod to fully disengage. Your 2100 should be ok without the new rod but it wouldn't hurt to get one...

    Body repair?

20 gauge mild steel will do fine. Just make sure to paint the back side with some "weldable" primer before you put it on. This way the back side is less prone to rerust.

    [RESOLVED] Relay and Plug ID?

According to the repair manuals there should be two wires for the car side of the connector. The car side's white wire should be hooked to the sensors blue wire. The car side black wire should be hooked to the sensor side white or gray wire.

Are you looking for 600 whp on pump gas or racing gas? The GT35 is capable of 600 whp but it will take a fine tuned setup to do so. I looked at your mod like. You have a few things you are going to need to upgrade first: fuel pump, injectors, tuning device, etc; before you are ready for this...

    Wideband

Are you still running a catalytic converter? If you are then the wideband is going to be useless because the cat. will change the readings. AEM recommends that the O2 sensor be placed 36" downstream from the turbo I believe, but it must not be placed after a cat. conv. The blue wire is for a...

    Blue Smoke [Merged 7-9]

The valve seals and guides are 2 very different parts of the head. If you want to replace valve guides the head must be removed. However valve seals can be replaced with the head still on the car. The cams do have to be removed though. You can use compressed air funneled into the spark plug...

    Brand of Coolant Temperature Sensor

I run a garage and have delt with all the major brands. As far as ECT sensors go, they are all pretty equal as far as quality. I would just call all the major parts stores and a dealer to see which is cheaper. Usually I have found Autozone's Wells sensors are the cheapest and are usually in...

internal VS external waste gate? why?

In short, and interal wastegated turbo has the wastegate flapper and seat built into the turbo's exhaust housing. All stock DSM turbos come this way. External wastgates are mounted by themselves either off the manifold or the O2 housing. There aren't any power gains to be had by switching...

Cut off the rear o2 sensor. Bad?

The rear sensor being inoperative on a 96+ car with OBDII computer system will throw a check engine light. It will in no way affect the performance to the vehicle. It is there to check the efficency of the catalytic converter. If you are not required to pass an emissions test were you live...

    Oil Pressure

I'm in agreement. At 500rpm 10psi sounds fine. If they are getting any consistant oil presure at that speed then you should be ok. Just keep a close eye on the pressure when you first fire the engine.

exhaust manifold to turbo bolts - FFWD or OEM? Stainless studs

    BANG! CLACKCLAK! Spray!

Well if the plastic top was blown off the radiator then you probably didn't have any fluid in the system. If the temp gauge doesn't have any coolant to read then you could have been severally overheating and the gauge wouldn't read hot. Sounds like the motor might have had a bad failure. I...

A 16G install is not really very complicated. If you read the tech articles than you know what is involved. If you are good with a wrench then you should be able to handle it. If you are worried about bending the lines by hand then you can go to the local parts store and buy a small tubing...

    tips for front brake removal

The front pistons must be pressed in. You are probably going to have to buy that bigger c-clamp.You should have been able to get the rear caliper back on if you had it screwed all the way in. With brand new pads it will be a tight fit and you might have to use some gentle force to help the...

Is there any way that I can check my wheels to find out the offset?

    Dual fed fuel rail idea.

I thought I would throw my .02 in on this question. The dual feed idea sounds like it would be ok for a high hp car. On a mostly stock car I think it would be overkill. I think your reasoning is correct because the three injectors in front of the number one cylinder are going to be first in...
