It's been awhile since i've been on this site. It depresses me due to lack of money. I'm selling my GST though and getting either a TSI or GSX. Just checking to make sure i'm correct...6 bolts are more desired over 7 bolts right?
It's not uncommon to see a completely stock GSX go for over $10,000. They're rare, EVERYONE wants one, and they're INSANELY cheap for what they are (turbo AWD) compared to every other car out there. I would say $6000 isn't a BAD price for a modded RS. i would never buy one. I bought my 97...
IMO you can get a more consistant launch with brake boosting. A few weeks ago i took a TSI AWD off the line and my 97 GST is completely stock right now. once i hit about 70mph and the road moved down to one lane i let off ### i was a few car lengths in front of him. ( i know it was a manual...
Hmmm... Maybe if the "Ferrari Swap" turns out good, we should put a patent on the design and sell the rims and paint stencil in a kit or something... just an idea though. Someone with more time, money, and motivation than me should work on the back end.
I saw a pic of your car in the gallery like a month ago and have been searching for it ever since. I was going to ask if you don't mind me taking your design... but... since everyone else is doing it i guess it's all good. lol. The only thing i might do a little different.... I'm probably...
I fell in love with DSMs when i saw 99gst_racer's car. We live in a small town in michigan and NO ONE around here has real nice cars. I actually didn't even really car about cars in general at all. His 1st car made me fall in love with cars. He had a playstation and screen and some other...
Insurance is a HUGE issue with an EVO. I had a 2004 Lancer OZ rally edition. I traded it in for a 97 GST. The GST is a couple HUNDRED cheaper on insurance each term. 4 Door doesn't matter. Newer cars are more expensive to insure. Plus Evo parts are more expensive. Newer isn't ALWAYS better.
As long as your car isn't running poor and your CEL isn't on then there is no problem. As long as it goes up while not idleing anyway. Mine is the same way. I had REALLY low pressure and a REALLY rough idle and the CEL came on only while idleing. I got an oil change with Mobil 1 and i...
Make sure you search before you ask questions.http://dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=217864The link is a "how-to" for painting OEM rims but it also tells what types of paint to use and where to get them. Hope your project turns out good. You should post pics when you're done too...
Get an EVO or a 2g GSX if you plan on doing ANYTHING to your car. If you plan to keep it 100% stock, get the STI.There's also the whole "what class do you fit into" question. If you work for a suite and tie business then get the STI. It's a little more "grown up". If that kind of thing...
Ok. Aparantly people don't ACTUALLY read the post? I stated that i know how to vent. In other words... I know I need a GM MAF and MAFT. This post is not about venting or not venting. I'm going to vent. And I'm going to do it properly. Nothing you say can change it. I KNOW venting on the...
I'll just start by saying DO NOT reply to this post if you're going to lecture me. I know plenty about venting. I know the right way to do it and i know all the pro's and con's.I got borred today so i decided i'd vent my BOV just for a few spins around the block just for kicks to see...
Just get the GM MAF from a junkyard if you're concerned with price. There's a list on here of all the cars you can pull it from. It's basiclly any newer GM vehicle made. and then buy the UICP off ebay with it already set up for a blow-through set-up. a pipe is a pipe whether is says greddy...
You can make a GST into a GSX but unless you've got a GST just laying around i'd suggest just buying a GSX from the beggining. Ask anyone on here though, It's definitely worth a few hours drive to get a good clean DSM. Especially a rare low milliage GSX. i searched for a year but never found...
If you're venting your car will run like crap. You need to either recirculate or do a blow-through set-up somewhere in your UICP. The 2G MAS isn't that bad, but you need to recirculate. If you want to vent then run a GM MAF with the MAFT set-up...
Ok guys, here's the deal. I have BONE stock GST. I'm basiclly going to follow the upgrade path, and i already know what parts and all that good stuff, so i don't need suggestions there. By summer next year I'll have a Evo III 16g with all supporting mods. I'm doing my gauges first, so... my...
There's no way your car can run with a GST or GSX unless your car has got some pretty decent mods and the GST and GSX are completely stock and running like complete crap. I ran a friend with my GST and he had his GS. He was so pissed he wouldn't even come over to my house or talk to me after...
Some one pointed out that a problem i had with my wheel might be a recall problem. I was just wondering if there are any other recalls on 97 GSTs? Thanks in advance.:dsm:
You need to get a GM MAF and a MAF-T to turn the signal into DSM language. Other wise just recirculate. You won't get as nice of sound from the BOV but re-circulating is cheaper than getting a GM MAF and MAF-T.http://dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=213196
Well... i don't know what's wrong. But, i went TOTALLY anal with some WD-40 and sprayed EVERYTHING that looked like it could be the problem. The result? PROBLEM SOLVED. But... 95TalonOwner is 100% right. I got home from kalamazoo tonight and now the other wheel makes the noise. Stupid DSM...
Thanks for all the help. I'm pretty sure it's the CV joint from what everyone is describing. It's only on the one wheel so i doubt it's the power steering pump. I'll post back on this thread after i figure out exactly what it is.
I'm just getting into cars really. I know most of the basic stuff. But you lost me on this one. Can you be a little more specific and tell me where and what to look for? Like is it close to the wheel by the brakes or closer to the engine bay...?
When i turn the steering whell my right front tire makes a VERY nasty/annoying sound. It kind of sounds like metal creaking, it kind of sounds like rubber rubbing against rubber, it kind of sounds like scratching, and it always sounds all sorts of nasty and embarrasing.:( It used to only make...
If you're a mod addict and you don't want to do it anymore... Well then you bought the wrong kind of car my friend. lol. You're going to want a bigger exhaust if you want more performance though. Though only way around that problem (of upgrading your exhaust) is just buy an exhaust with a...
Go with the 16G for the autocrossing. You'll get much better times on the track. Plus if you tune real well with lots of supporting mods, you'll probably be able to beat 50trims on the drag strip. Just like everyone said though, tuning is most important so make sure you can get everything...
I had this problem before, about 2 weeks ago. the dealership chaged me $185 and said it was fixed. Obviously not. Same code got tripped. I know it's not gunna blow my engine up if i don't fix it RIGHT now, but i still wanna fix it ASAP. I forgot exactly what is was. So my question is, what...
1 3/8" from the edge for the mitsu sitcker (that's from the closet part of the sticker)2 3/4" from the edge for the GS-T sticker (also from the closest part)1/4" from the bottom for both. (the whole bottom is straight so this one is self explanitory)Thanks for putting this thread...
FWD 2g's are actually pretty good in the snow. I live in Michigan and we get random snow blizzards all the time. I traded my 2004 Lancer OZ Rally edition in for the GST this winter. The GST handles WAYYYY better than the "rally" car. The Lancer was more fun to drive in the snow, but the GST...
Yeah, I meant leaks not creep. And i'm finally getting it serviced on fri ### the parts finally came in. But i still want to check for leaks just to be safe. That way I don't have problems later on once i start putting mods in. Could you help me with some of the "free mods" too? Or at least...
My oil level is good. When i'm driving the pressure is fine. When i sit somewhere for awhile there is basiclly no oil pressure. Also, how do i do a compression test or check for boost creep?
I have a 97 GST, auto tranny, with 60,000 miles on it. Sometimes it idles fine, sometimes it idles at 1.5k rpms or higher, sometimes it bounces off of 0-500 rpms and feels like it's gunna die. Sometimes it shakes violently, sometimes it barely shakes, and sometimes it doesn't shake. Also my...
WTF Whoops. I must have mis-read and just assumed he had a 2g. Thanks for pointin' it out.If you can turbo a 420a for under $1000, then you can definitely turbo the 4G63 MUCH cheaper. The guy from the thread did his in like $7XX. So that's something to think about when tossin' a price...
Here's a thread that should help your decision.- how to turbo a 420a for under $1000
http://dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=181134Good luck with the build. You should post pics of the process and let us know how it went.
I just bought my car not too long ago. It's a 97 but it's only got 65k miles on it, so the paint is still in pretty good condition. There are a few stratches and a little bit of curb rash on the front bumper from the previous owner. Does anyone know where i can get paint to fix up the...
It would probably be cheaper in the long run to sell your car and buy an already turbo car. The "PSSSHHH" sound comes from pressure being released. If you're running super low boost it won't be that loud anyway. Think of it like a pop bottle. Open one not shaken up (aka low boost/pressure)...
I've been trying to make a meet since jan but it's damn near imposible to get a night off of work ### we're short staffed right now. Hopefully soon they'll switch the schedule around and give me tues off.
when is it? and will it cost just to watch. I don't probably won't have my mods in yet or tuned by the time this thing rolls around. but i'd be interested in watching.
They don't need any other car that good. But if you still think Mitsu is lazy or just doesn't care, you'd still be wrong. North America just doesn't get all the sweet stuff. Check out Mitsu's RalliArt line up for anywhere else. They're just now bringing it to the states. In fact, they're...
mitsu DOES care about weight and chassis strength. one word- EVO. You can read ANY test of the EVO VIII vs STi. and EVERY test says, the EVO is lighter and has a much stiffer frame. that's why most of the time the EVO won. because it felt just a little better around the corners. And as far...
i'm sure you can talk the people down on that. I snagged magnaflow exhaust for my Lancer for $80 when it was orignally over $600. It was only on the other car for 1 month. Just convince the seller that it's a POS used part that no one else would be willing to buy.
thanks for the input. I forgot to put, i'm getting a Turbo Timer and a boost controller. Should i get an electronic boost controller or a MBC? Also, what type of injectors should i get? And do i need a new fuel pump?
I'm trying to decide what turbo i should get. I'm not going to do a whole lot of mods. Just the basics. (intake, BOV, MAFT, exhaust, UICP, SAFC). Would i be able to run decent times with a 14b or should i look to go bigger? And are there any other mods i would need? I don't want to go too...
