This post has a link which gives information about a compression test. Just scroll down a little , and you'll see where I had posted the link.http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/303213-compression-s-good-bad.htmlHave you noticed if you're burning oil? First thing I thought of...
I agree with checking the alternator. It could either not be charging enough, not at all, or even overcharging... I actually had an overcharging problem about a year ago, which actually popped my alternator fuse. Now that's a hell of a mess. I had such a crazy myriad of electrical issues...
+1 on a review!
I've been interested in these for a while, and would love to hear about ride quality, adjustability, etc. after you get them installed.
I never planned it on being funny... I was tired and perusing through this thread reminded me of things while in Iraq. I'm sorry that it disturbed you to the point where you needed to flame on me.You're right, I never did see "true" combat... We were never directly engaged in combat...
Actually, the best way to find out the source of a leak would be a leakdown test. This will require a leakdown tester (I got one from Snap-on for $300!) and an air compressor capable capable of 100PSI of pressure. I won't go into specifics on how to do the test, but with the test you can find...
Wow... I really need to check the forums more. I'll try to make it, but can't guarantee anything. I was kinda hoping to use that weekend for fab'ing an air diverter for the radiator. Running a bit hot since the FMIC install :( .
I don't have the money for one at the moment, so I have to do the whole warranty thing through Dorman... That's the reason I'm not getting OEM or the Fluidampr right now... I'm still trying to find money for rent coming up here soon, so I can't be spending more money on my car :(
This is an all too familiar story... Just over a month ago at 123k on the odometer, my balancer separated. I got a new one from a local parts place, which happened to be a Dorman piece. A month and 1,000 miles later, this balancer is worse than the first one. I'll be getting another Dorman...
Tool companies like Snap On and Mac Tools make pressure testers to provide a way to pressurize the coolant system and locate leaks. There are a few places that let you rent tools that you may need (Advance Auto comes to my mind), rather than buying something that you don't use often enough to...
Well, it will definitely clog your cat. It will also clog/kill your O2 sensors. So, I would say just to pass it up, because even 1/4 tank of leaded fuel can destroy them.
Sounds to me like a worn bushing, or possibly the sway bar link. Also, there was an Eclipse in my shop earlier this week that had requested us to do recall work on it. Apparently, there is a recall on the lower control arms, which make a noise such as you explain. I would recommend checking...
Did you happen to try getting a pry bar on a lip of the axle and prying against the transmission? It shouldn't take too much force to pop the axles out.Oh, I'm not sure if DSM axles have this or not, but some vehicles have a retaining clip holding each axle in place, on the side that the...
From personal experience - counting turns when replacing inners doesn't help at all. But then again, I deal with some really crappy parts dealers and almost never get to install manufacturer parts.
I'm not too sure about using a pipe wrench on inner tie rods, but hey, whatever works for you I guess. But then again, I do work in a shop and have my own inner tie rod tool for that purpose. Also, I didn't see anything about the recommended use of medium-strength threadlocker on the part of...
How are you able to hold 7 PSI of boost on the E316G? As you probably know, they like to boost to about 22-24 PSI. Also, you're still running stock fuel pump and injectors??? How much mileage on your engine? If it's quite high, I would recommend running some Sea Foam through your engine if...
How long is it going to last? I don't get off work until 1pm, and I'm coming from Harrisburg.
I wanna come to check it out, but don't want to spend more time driving than checking out the action!
Been there, done that, glad I'm out...I guess you could say I was regarded as a federal officer for my deployment to Texas after the whole 9-11 crap (Army Reserves for 8 LONG years). Being in law enforcement wasn't for me. But I still have a lot of friends that went with me and are now...
Alright, I have a group for you guys to look for, if you've never heard of them.Kitchen Knife ConspiracyTheir latest album "A Friend In Need Is A Friend To Kill" is damn good. And just to give you a taste of what they're like, the first song on the album is called "Rancid Whore Tied To...
No way!!! A metal thread!!!How many albums do SYL have now? I don't even remember hearing about Alien... This sucks... I am soooo out of the loop any more...
The stock amp is under the passenger seat. Remove the seat (really easy, just 4 bolts), fold over the flap of carpet and look at the side that has the harness going into the amp (pointing toward the passenger door). You should also see a thick, black cord going into the amp. This is for your...
Sounds to me like you're on the right track... No fuel smell when pulling plugs = check for fuel getting to the injectors. Fuse blown for some reason (fuel pump or MPI fuse/relay)? Make sure you check. Also, if you just pull the fuel line @ the FPR, all that would tell you is if you have...
I spent almost a year in Iraq to have the money for my 99 GSX. While over there, I did a LOT of research on different cars, and was eventually down to two choices - either a 95 300ZX TT or a 2gb GSX. Well, since the military doesn't pay worth crap, I settled for the GSX. I got it about a...
I wouldn't be so hasty as to blame the dim lights on the alternator. The first thing I would look for (or upgrade) is ground wires between the body, exhaust and engine. The negative wire going to the battery is connected to the engine, and you have several other grounds that go through the...
Am I reading this right??? You have a 160W PS???How many hard drives and CD-Rom's do you have? That will also play a role in deciding on what power output you should have.
Try cleaning your MAF... Just get a can of Brake Clean and remove your MAF - Spray the hell out of the resistor you see when looking through the MAF. Then, let it airdry and reinstall.Brake Clean works just as well as the (relatively) new MAF cleaning spray, and you can use it on a bunch...
Remember that gravity affects everything... Look at the p/s hoses and p/s pump for any moisture. If you see some, compare the feeling between that and the p/s fluid in your pump to make sure that's what it is. If you don't see any fluid there, look at the rack. Is there moisture on the boots...
Another suggestion might be to clean your intake piping and, more importantly, clean your MAF sensor. A dirty MAF will give the ECU inaccurate readings on the amount of air the engine is sucking in, so that's always a good place to start. Also, make sure everything else is in proper working...
It's usually a better idea to install a catch can instead of a breather filter (that's my opinion), but to each his own...The oil is most likely in the piping from the PCV vacuum line still being intact before the breather filter was installed. No worries, it's normal. Just clean out your...
I really doubt you'll see much difference in gains between the 2.5 and the 3" exhausts at those hp levels. Where the 3" really matters is when you get power up toward the 400hp mark and over. To keep it simple, exhaust diameter and the quality of bends really only changes the power potential...
Alrighty, my pics turned out crappy, considering it's almost 2am here in PA, so hopefully I can get my 2 clips uploaded to my server....Hold a sec, and I'll give ya the links... ahhh, there we go! Hope you can hear it alright. At IdleRev to 5kIt sounds awesome under load at...
Actually, you just reminded me that I never actually took pictures of my exhaust yet!!! Yeah, tell ya what... I'm gonna run out real quick and clean my tip, then take a few pics!!! Be right back!!!
If you're looking to make 300hp at the wheels, then yes, a 2.5" exhaust will suffice. Anything over 350hp, I would recommend getting a full 3" turbo-back. I just got my 3" turbo-back from Buschur Racing, and I LOVE it!!! You would usually expect it to be loud as hell, but actually it's quite...
Ahhh, yes... Those EVO's were friggin' awesome! It's great to see the pics of those of us who showed up at
Red Robin. Too bad mine was the only turbo'd one there (not to mention AWD :D ).The FTO was bangin' too. I want one!!!
Go with a GSX (if you can find one) and start with the basics...
Make sure it's in good running condition before you start any upgrading. New plugs, wires, fuel filter, oil change, transmission fluid change (and diff fluid if you get the GSX), coolant flush, etc...
While you're in that...
It's always best to have someone with the proper knowledge AND equipment at hand when doing A/C work.
After installing the retrofit kit, vacuum should be pulled on the system (roughly 28 inHg) for at least 20 minutes to remove all the old R-12, oil and miscellaneous other substances from the...
Hey-You won't have any problems with your engine running different than before. The O2 sim-sensor replaces the factory O2 sensor that was after your cat. The only purpose that one had was to let the computer know whether or not your cat was working.
So, since you have no cat, the...
I'll make sure to get to the Hershey show, as long as it's on a weekend. I work M-F until 6pm and on Saturday until 1pm. So anything after that and all Sunday, I'll be there.:dsm:
I'm almost done with my 2 years of school. One class left, and I'll have my certificate! I find this field to be challenging and exciting. Being able to diagnose a problem and fix it (especially on the newer vehicles) is exceptionally rewarding.I've been working for Sears in their...
So, the show is back in Carlisle, huh? Hopefully people won't screw this up again like they have in the past. I'd like to see the show stay in Carlisle for good this time.As for TunerWar... I hope it actually turns out to be a good show this time around. I wasn't particularly impressed...
I had a weird issue like yours about 10 months ago. I was doing a compression test at the time and only got through the first two cylinders. I tried cranking the engine over for #3 and -nothing-... I couldn't figure out what was going on. After trying to start it for about 3 minutes, it...
P0201 Injector Circuit Malfunction - Cylinder 1This signifies that there is a problem with the circuit, meaning an electrical problem. The injector could be electrically shorted or open (meaning replace the injector), or it could be an issue with the connector on the injector. Check to...
Did the CEL come back on with the Cam Sensor DTC? If so, a faulty TPS would most likely not be the problem. If the DTC didn't come back, then sure, it could be an issue with the TPS, but it could be one of several other sensors as well. Just don't start throwing parts at it in hopes of...
