    If you put a ecu in it and the car run fine, that tells you "BAD" ecu. In all honesty, i have tried a lot of ecu's and a e-prom ecu does not run as well as a 93 tsi ecu, unless you are just wanting that stutter or other burnt chips i suggest you find a 93 ecu and try it.

    Just because you replaced the caps, don't mean it will fix this problem, why don't you go and find a friend who will let you borrow a ecu and se if it fixes your problem.

    I would bet you have a open atmosphere bov don't you? The bov is probably leaking and the mass air is detecting that and trying to correct the problem. Let me know if you don't have a open atmosphere bov and i will go from there.

    Your car might be backing the timing off because you are trying to run too much boost. The average boost you can run on 93 pump gas is 16-17 psi and you might want to try hooking your factory boost controller back up and see what happens.
