I'm about to re-tune my car at likely well over 30 PSI of boost pressure on E85 and I'm a little paranoid about my head gasket. This engine has never seen more than around 24psi of boost pressure so I want to take as many precautions as possible before I crank up the boost to make sure it can...
Either turbo would be a good choice, although I'm obviously a fan of the hx35 based on the results I've been seeing from several DSMers who've started bolting them on lately. I guess it all just depends on what he wants out of his car. When I started my HX40 project I kinda got caught up in...
Why not go with a smaller turbo that conforms more to your power goals? I'm running an HX40 pro on a built 2.4 liter motor and it's still a little bit laggy for my taste. Of course, this setup is also capable of around 700whp so I can't complain much. A lot of the lag probably comes from my...
I'm already using the dark performance divided T4 manifold above with a 18cm^2 housing and there is no in-gate divider in the wategate passage as shown above. Apparently this is allowing contamination. How much do you think this is affecting the TS functionality/VE of my setup and is there any...
1. My car is a:
b) 2g DSM2. My wheel size is:
Diameter: 18
Width: 8
Offset: 403. My current suspension height is lowered
Pro Kit / illumina adjustables
b) One to 1.5 inches?
c) 1.5 - 2 inches?4. If suspension is lowered,
a) Rear camber will be adjusted to less than 1°...
My HX40 has a 7 blade billet (HTA) 60mm wheel. I'm not sure if it's considered a legitimate hx40 pro or not, but it spools great and is capable of 69 lb per min.
I'm fixing a few things on my car right now and I have a couple of questions;First off, here are a few crappy iphone pics of my TS T4 HX40 Pro setup. My first question is about my oil feed line. The current line runs from the OFH and plugs into an eyelet type bolt fitting that...
I'm using an oil restrictor on my HX40 pro, but my 2.4 engine has no balance shafts and my oil pressure is 90psi at idle immediately after a cold start. I haven't been driving the car for fear of blowing something up. How high should my oil pressure be after a cold start wih this turbo and...
I would prefer not to push my current injectors to 100% IDC but if I did, shouldn't my PTE 1200cc injectors (which are estimated to flow enough for 67lb per min on E85) be enough for me to make over 650whp on ethanol without upgrading to 1600s? As far as I know the HX40 pro is only capable of...
Sweet! We just got an E85 station here in Fayetteville! :D I'm gonna see what the HX40 pro can do on this stuff. I only wish I would have opted for bigger injectors. According to a post I read last night my 1200cc PTE injectors are only good for 67lb per min on E85. Any idea if that number...
Someone mentioned it earlier, but I went as Jay and my best bro as Silent Bob a couple of years back. I think we might make a repeat appearance this year.
When I picked up my car after having it dyno tuned I took it out for a short (10 mins or so) spirited drive to check for problems. I wound it out a few times to 7500 rpms through 2nd and 3rd gear at 23ish psi on pump gas. It was running great and I had a huge smile on my face until about a...
Nevermind.. I managed to find and reinstall my ancient copy of photoshop today and shopped them myself. They don't look great, but at least it's enough to give me a decent idea of how they will look on the car. Can any of you guys tell me how to shop the rpf1's as if they were painted black...
I'm planning to put some nice 18x8" wheels with 245/40/18 all-season tires on my car for daily driving as well as a set of light weight 17x9"35mm enkei wheels with R compound 255 rubber for road/drag racing and I'm curious what they will look like on my car. Can someone please photoshop these...
My hx40 pro spools great with a ts T4 mani and 18cm hotside on a 2.4 engine. If I were you I would spend $200 bucks on a rebuild and an oil inlet restrictor. As long as you keep your oil pressure in the correct range (port your ofh) the rebuild should last a long time. Is your exhaust...
I have a built 2.4 liter engine with no balance shafts and I'm afraid my oil pressure is too high. I bought a VDO 150psi gauge from Summit and connected it according to the directions included but it does not work. As soon as power is applied to the gauge the needle immediately spikes above...
I don't remember if the housing on my turbo is an 18cm^2 or 19cm^2 but I know for a fact it's one of the two. My previous setup was an scm6152 turbo with a .63 mitsu flanged housing and a ported 2g mani and I upgraded to an Hx40 pro with a divided T4 hotside and divided t4 mani and the spool...
So I picked up my car this weekend from Polk after the dyno tune and I can say is..WOW. I'm officially a believer in twin scroll tech (and in the power potential of Holset's ). My old turbo (scm6152) was like an on off switch, the car felt gutless and slow until 4k and then it would spool all...
Yea, I can't wait to swap to Speed Density myself. Hopefully I can get around 500whp on pump after I ditch the 2gmaf and get a 5" intake pipe. I'm also gonna remove my resonators and go full 3.5" turbo-back exhaust and see if it makes a difference.
I'm not sure if it helps the twin-scroll vs. open scroll debate any, but I just got the dyno results back for my 18cm^2 twin scroll setup. My car made 454.84 hp and supposedly 420ish torque (WTF?) on pump gas at a measley 25psi because my Profec B wouldn't boost any higher. Details are in the...
After Months of B.S. and waiting I finally got my car Dynoed. The run was done on pump gas at only 25psi because the boost controller (profec B) would not allow the boost to go any higher. Polk claims the dyno was reading the torque levels incorrectly and that the printout should show engine...
Nevermind.. I got it working. It stated right up and idled fine after I removed the COP and plugged the factory coil packs/wires back in. Only two of the coils on this COP kit seem to be functioning. I guess this is what I get for buying an ebay C.O.P. Thanks for trying to help for those of...
It's a 7 bolt 4g64 (2.4) motor with a 95 2g head & stock 95-96 CAS. The trigger plate on the sprocket is not bent. I am using dsmlink 2.5x. Tried the invert CAS option (even though I shouldn't be using it) but it still won't start unless I unplug the CAS.
My car won't start unless I unplug the Cam Angle Sensor. After replacing the timing belt I realized that the CAS had a damaged wire so I had to remove the new belt again to replace the old broken sensor...FML. The CAS has since been replaced with a new sensor but the car still won't start. I...
TIMG, it's good to hear that your holset has been reliable. I keep hearing stories about people blowing them up after only a few hundred miles and it's making me nervous. Are you feeding your turbo from the OFH or the Head? Also, are you using a restrictor? What size drain? etc...
A larger volume twin volute T3 or T4 style housing (for example the standard holset 16cm^2 or 19cm^2) should spool just as quickly as a much smaller single volute housing (for example the .55 BEP bolt-on) while maintaining higher flow up top and providing better part-throttle response. I...
So these numbers were accomplished with an hx40 that has the smaller 10 blade turbine and a standard 8 blade compressor, or a larger 60mm 7blade compressor? Also, do you think the 12 blade turbine will make for a laggier setup than the 10 blade?
Those numbers are awesome.. congrats Badman. :hellyeah: I have almost the same setup on my car... built 2.4 w FP3 cams, a billet 7blade hx40pro w a 18cm^2 housing, and a ts t4 manifold. I hope my numbers wind up even remotely close to yours, but I'll be surprised if I can sustain 40+psi...
The sad thing is... I already know enough about my car to do most of the work they've been doing, but I don't know how to weld or fabricate so I'm limited in what I can fix. I've been researching and modifying my DSM by myself for years. I installed the scm61, 880cc injectors, 255 pump, FPR...
After modifying my DSM for years and constantly running into minor problems I finally gave up and took it to a "reputable performance shop" to have it tuned and get a few things fixed that I couldn't seem to get done myself. The shop is the only place near me that has a dyno (even though it's...
That's a really broad statement. It would take a lot of research and side-by-side comparison to prove it and alot of evidence to defend it. All the spool times, hp numbers, and maps I have seen appear incredibly close among DSM's utilizing turbos of the same class from Borg, Holset, and...
Since you already have a tubular mitsu flanged mani, you could probably break even or at least get close by selling it and buying a TS DNP or Dark Performance T4 flanged model. Mine was only $400. :sneaky:Give me two weeks and I should have dyno/driving results and possibly video showing...
Why spend a couple hundred dollars on a different housing just so that you can keep the restrictive stock exhaust manifold? Spend two hundred dollars more and pair your existing divided t4 housing with a nice DNP or Dark Performance divided t4 header and you will increase VE and make more...
1fast2g's numbers with the standard HX40 in the results page are very impressive, especially for a motor with stock 1g rods & pistons. :applause: Does anyone know how much boost he was running when he made 530+whp? The Dynapak graph looked like it said 44psi, but I'm not sure if that is...
I considered buying an s362 also. I've heard nothing but good things about Borg turbos and apparently there are quite a few Honda guys using them to make big power. Another reason I ended up with a Holset instead of a Borg or Garrett was because of morbid curiousity. Only a handfull of people...
I went with a billet (HTA) HX40 pro because it was under 500 bucks, rebuildable, and should net similar numbers as an HTA 35R or 4088R. However if money was not part of the equation I probably would have gone BB Garrett as well. Then again, if money was not an issue, I would be modifying a...
My old turbo (PTE SCM61) did the same thing after I bolted it onto my new 2.4 motor (no balance shafts). I put an in-line oil pressure restrictor fitting in place and it quit smoking. The funny part is.. the documentation that came with my turbo said that you would automatically void the...
lol.. :p I just noticed that TimG is a moderator with a 5 star rep, so he probably already knows that his undivided header is contributing to his laggy setup. :ohdamn:
