  1. Lucky.....

1990-92.5 are the same rods. All are 6-bolt. They simply call them 90 big rods to keep it simple. They also call 2G pistons 95 pistons on occasion. I don't know about the quality of the NPR pistons, but stock Mitsu 2G pistons are pretty strong and should easily meet your tuning goals. If you...
  2. Laser Auto swap and budget build

Almost a shame to tear apart a 92 Laser AWD. Kind of a rare car. But I think an auto drag car will keep it clean and off the streets that tear up these cars.
  3. Large Companies and the Little Guy

The internet is still a new place for image rights. If it's on the internet, it's usually fair game to copy and use. You can go through the effort of copyrighting your image to help protect yourself, but that doesn't stop everyone. On the other hand, the companies selling the bumper can state...
  4. The Beginning of the End!

Not to contradict you, but the body work does not say 97 Talon. The 97 had the high mount rear spoiler and a body stripe down the side that led to the rear bumper line. This looks like a 95-96.
  5. Update-Izzle

While you're at it and waiting for parts or machine work, clean up the wiring harness. I've always hated how messy the engine bay looks with all those loose wires.
  6. well.... not quite what i expected.....

Do you have a paint code to match to other vehicles? That might help to determine if you have a bad batch of paint or if maybe your prep wasn't done right. Were you supposed to lay down a coat of another color before putting this down?
  7. Mirage Update. It started.

Make sure you get the right axle for the car. I just ordered a turbo axle and got it right the first time. If you have a 92+ transmission, you will need a different axle.
  8. Piecing it together

I've noticed a lot more shaved valve covers lately. I guess I'll need to step up to the next level with mine. How easy are these things to crack? Hope that doesn't give away my next idea.
  9. Introductions

No kidding! That was a deal!
  10. Dr. JACKAL and Mr. Hyde: Galant record seeker. (1302/2000) PT.3

If you're going for all out power, why not weld the wastegate shut? No chance in boost blowing it open or leaking out. The hot pipe and E85 works, so don't anyone count it out. I wouldn't do it for a street car, but for a drag car, go for it.
  11. I'm online

I finally got my website started. It has tons of issues, but I finally own a piece of cyberspace to call my own. I will mostly be using it to promote my freelance design work, but I will make sure there is a parking space for my cars to reside. If you decide to check it out, give me some...
  12. Head and Block

Shiny! Can you give us particulars on the parts you used?
  13. Modified Wiring Harness

Thanks for having a look.Yes, there should only be one Red wire on the CAS. However, the ground coming from there is also connected at pins 101 and 106. It's not very clear in my drawing though.Yes, the BW wire going to the MPI Relay, Coil and Power Transistor should also be connected to...
  14. Modified Wiring Harness

Really? No one has any input? Does this at least look right? I completely eliminated the ISC wiring and have consolidated quite a bit of wiring. I just would like some second opinions before I plug this into my ECU and see if it works
  15. Modified Wiring Harness

So I've been trying to get this done for quite some time. I think I'm still confused on a couple things, but right now my brain is fried. Can someone check this to make sure it's right? I can make changes as needed. This is set up for my 1990 ECU. 1991+ will just need to swap #6 and #14. This...
  16. Overflow relocation and motor update pics

Any reason you're not using the 2 piece axle on the driver's side? Or I'm I just looking at one part of the two parts?
  17. Credit Card Fraud

I just got a call today from Wells Fargo about a possible fraud charge on my account. I took a look online and noticed a small charge that seemed out of place. This is the description my online account gave me:CHKCARDW HA BOULOGNILLFRFRAfter calling my bank, they confirmed this charge as...
  18. 4G63 510 Engine Carnage

I stripped the block last night to find out what the damage is. Here you go:#2 Rod Bearing#2 Rod Bearing Cap#2 CrankThis one seemed the worst of all of them. I don't have enough experience to tell if the crank or rods are reusable. I'll get an opinion from Trevtec and see what he says...
  19. Project 9's No compromise update!!

It's still funny to me to see people assembling motors in the house. I guess sitting on the garage floor isn't much better. But I don't have to worry about making a mess on the carpet. Can't wait to see this thing go down the track.
  20. 4G63 510 continued pt 2

    SR20. How ordinary. ;)
  21. 4G63 510 continued pt 2

These are the pics of my radiator and intercooler mount. As you can see, all I did is weld 2 nuts to the lower core support and mount the brackets to that. Trimming of the front of the car is limited to the area behind the grill. I may need to do some minor trimming to the backside of the lower...
  22. 4g63 510 continued

There are a couple of people who have managed to squeeze 18s under theses cars. Mario Lozano being one of them. The JMF intake I had was already a "race" unit that had the shortest runners they offer. With the price and how nice the unit was, I didn't want to modify it to work. There needed to...
  23. 4g63 510 continued

I've got the intercooler and radiator 90% mounted. I just need to drill some holes in the upper core support to attach the upper brackets to hold the radiator in. I'll take pics tomorrow. Now that I have that done, I can route my headlight wires under the intercooler and mock up the intercooler...
  24. 4g63 510

I had a set of those 4 piston calipers. They are HEAVY. I saw no real advantage to using them. Even using these 2 piston units is probably overkill for most cases. I've seen lots of people running Z32 4 piston calipers and some running custom Brembo setups from Mario Lozano of TSR. You can run...
  25. 1G FWD almost ready

Why not just drop a couple hundred pounds and ditch the DSMMirage Turbo/Colt GT • Index pageIf that's not an option and you want to keep the DSM, you might start thinking about swapping in a built AWD transmission. Weld the center diff and run it as a FWD unit. The gears are stronger...
  26. Fracking O-Ring!

It looks great for the most part.I always hate when everything is nice and clean, and then you leave something small like the crank pulley or engine mount nasty and rusty. Do it right and you'll be happy for doing it. Miss something small and your eye will always be drawn to that little thing...
  27. Dodge D50 Barn Find!!!

Project Zero G Forums ~ IndexCheck the Project section. Quite a few D50/MM projects. Someone there might have more info for you.
  28. My engine rebuild..!!

That's a 1G head. You can tell just by looking at the coolant lines. The 1G has a tube coming from the water pump to the lower radiator. 2Gs have a thermostat housing with both lines on it.The block is a 2G 7-bolt. There are no provisions for a motor mount on the bellhousing area. The 2G has...
  29. How to build a front splitter for the One Lap VR-4

I'm sure it will work just fine, but you should always keep in mind the direction of the corrugated material when building things. There are arrows on your board telling you which way the material should be used.I had an 3D art project where we needed to build a chair to support our own weight...
  30. 4g63 510

Lots of things left. I'm getting some intercooler and water pipes done. I need a driveshaft and maybe need to shorten a CV axle. Exhaust, run all my new brake and fuel lines, finish wiring, get my EPROM chipped. And then after all of that is done and while I'm driving it, I need a full interior...
  31. 4g63 510

It has occurred to me that I have not posted any progress on my 1972 Datsun 510 project here on DSMTuners. This site has been such a great help to me, that now I think I can pass along some info that others may find useful. So, to begin, I bought a 1972 Datsun 510 4 door in late 2005 and it has...
  32. TunersNation.com big brakes on One Lap VR4

Do you really need that much brake? I'm no expert, but that seems like a real overkill for a GVR4 or any DSM. Let us know how they work out for you, as the 3Si brake upgrade may be cheap to those of us who can find some salvage yard parts.
  33. Project 9's No compromise update!!

I assume this tool mostly comes in handy when the head is still on the block. I thought it was really easy to do my springs and retainers with a big C-clamp and an old socket with a hole cut in the side. Think it cost me about $10 using an SAE old socket. We don't need those dumb SAE things on...
  34. G4CS Short Block Assembly

The easiest way I know to remove the front (exhaust side) BS bearings is to flip the balance shaft around and use it to knock out the inner bearing. In other words use the timing side of the BS to knock out the inside bearing. The timing side bearing can be knocked out with anything else...
  35. 3rd Time is a Charm

I miss my 92 AWD. Put some 97 TSi AWD wheels on it. They look so sick on the 1Gb. Looks like you found a great project.
  36. project log, 95 gst

He said his rod got hot! :tease:That doesn't usually happen to me around cars, but it does on occasion.
  37. Sema 2009

I snapped a few pics at the show. I didn't get a chance to stop and take too many pics with the limited time I had. Sorry for some of the blurry shots. My camera doesn't focus well in low light or with some of the ultra shinny paint on them there high end rides.SEMA 2009 pictures by...
  38. '95 Eclipse - THE BIRTH OF A PSEUDO BEAST!!

Think maybe the Lime Green and 420A would have made a good Fast and Furious car.Wait. It was in the first movie! Just copy that one. Forget the carbon exhaust and get a motec instead. :ohdamn:I'm not bashing anyone for building a car the way they want, but most people don't consider a 420A...
  39. 4g63 Fc Rx7

Found this on the Project Zero G forums dealing with RWD 4G63 swaps. Video of a member having some fun with his project. Video isn't that great, but you get the idea.YouTube - 6-3-09 Supra RX-7 and 636
  40. Jake H's 1G Rear Wheel Drive Build

I've been away for a while, but Jake, you definitely have to get one of Bill's R154 bellhousings. These things are incredibly strong and well made. You'll need to shorten the stock R154 input shaft end by about 1/8" and cut the stock throw out bearing sleeve off. Then you can simply bolt the...
  41. Reattching A/C unit, but it won't take a charge.

It's definitely not a fuse or relay, but thanks for the advice. Sometimes we do overlook those little things. Right now, I think Defiant is right. Somewhere the A/C control unit is not correctly communicating to the compressor. I have another friend that is having the same issue as me.I was...
  42. Jake H's 1G Rear Wheel Drive Build

The JMF unit is just too big for my car. I ran into clearance issues with it and my brake master cylinder and also intercooler piping. I have a pic on photbucket of the master cylinder clearance. It's about enough to fit a business card. And with an NA throttle body, I have about 1.5" from the...
  43. Jake H's 1G Rear Wheel Drive Build

That's a pretty nice looking intake manifold. I really like my JMF RWD manifold. Too bad I can't use it. I don't have enough room with my shock towers to clear it. It also sticks out too far for me to run intercooler piping. If you, or anyone wants pics of this manifold, I can post them...
  44. Reattching A/C unit, but it won't take a charge.

I'll check about the thermo switch. The Colt is basically a 90 DSM with a Mirage firewall and chassis harness. The A/C harness I got came from a 91 Mirage 4 door and was a plug in deal with this Colt, as well as the A/C lines, condenser, and drier. The A/C compressor was a unit from a 91 Galant...
  45. Reattching A/C unit, but it won't take a charge.

Well, my step-dad happened to have a vacuum setup for A/C systems and we vacuumed the system out. A must. And recharged the system. I have about 20oz of refrigerant in the system, but the compressor still refuses to come on unless i jump it. I haven't tried to bypass the pressure switch yet, but...
  46. Reattching A/C unit, but it won't take a charge.

I'm still not sure where the problem is. I jumped the compressor power wire and I did manage to charge the system. However, the compressor will not come on with the A/C switch. The relay seems fine. The other relay (for the fan) works fine. All fuses are good and I do have resistance between the...
  47. Reattching A/C unit, but it won't take a charge.

Ok. I'll try that. I'm just going to apply 12v to the compressor. Correct? I assume the compressor takes 12v and there's no resistor to reduce voltage.
  48. Reattching A/C unit, but it won't take a charge.

Why send it to a shop when they sell these conversion kits? The system was empty before I put it in, and the supplied freon/oil mixture should be correct in each bottle. The only part that should require a shop is evacuating the R12.I do have the car running when attempting to recharge the...
  49. Reattching A/C unit, but it won't take a charge.

So I've reattached the A/C in my 89 Colt GT with 4G63 swap. Everything is there, but it won't take a charge. I switched it over to 134A when I put everything back in. The fans all kick on, and it all seems to work. However, the freon will not empty from the can into the freon system. The gauge...
