I'm having the same problem as you. Replaced a leaking slave cylinder, adjusted clutch pedal and bled the system several times with no luck. After researching the problem, I have come to the conclusion that my clutch fork is bent or the ball it rides on is worn out, most likely both, not...
Get your battery tested. Sounds like it is not holding a charge. Our cars don't respond well to running off just the altenator. Check you battery voltage on your datalogger when the key is on and when the car is started. You should see about 12v with the key on and 13.8v when running. I run...
Have you tried a 180 degree thermostat. I had the same problem with the 195 thermostat and it fixed my problems with the FMIC blocking airflow. My temps were at 206 and they dropped to 179.
I'm now at the put it back to gether stage, but was wondering if I could be one tooth off on the exhaust cam as now I'm pulling 20" of vacuum at idle and the throttle seems a little sluggish now too. I put the exhaust cam one tooth clockwise vs the intake cam as per the instuctions and thought...
I'm in the process of pulling the balance shafts right now and will reset everything before I put the new belt in. When the crank pully notch aligns with the arrow that is Top Dead Center correct?
I like my car, sometimes my car don't like me. I guess if someone rode me hard and put me away wet, I would be mad too. So does that make it a girl car?
Weather must be nice everyone is gone? Anyways, you are running rich with low fuel trims, you need to lean out the mixture a small amount at a time. It takes quite awhile of driving for the ecu to make any fuel trim changes. That is what I have run into with my 90 TSI anyways. Low FT is...
I said in the above post that I pulled the belt away from the intake cam gear and the cam "moved" a few teeth off. How do I check the alignment/timing from the crankshaft to the cams? I know how to align the cam gears together, and the crank and oil gears together, but just wanted to make sure...
Long story short. Blew the balance shaft belt and did not loose the timing belt. Lucky meOMG Car was running great when I shut it off, no ticking or bad idle and so on. I have all the covers off and am inspecting the belt, guess i was pulling on it and it was stretched out enough that I...
I run the ostrich emulator and I like it alot. Chip burning on the fly. I use a Maft to fine tune, but I don't like it. Personally I would buy an SAFC next time and use a 2G Maf. www.moates.net can hook you up with the emulator. Nice company to deal with.
I have a 2880 pound daily driver without a carbon fiber hood. Yeah, if I get in a wreck i'm screwed with no bumpers, but it sure is fun have a light ass AWD.
I bought the light from radio shack, when power is energized to the electric pump a 12v light comes on. I bought a blue one for about $3. You can get more line from any of the water injection places(got mine from coolingmist). Yes, the pump can be mounted in the trunk. The water will be...
I also have a 90 TSI and mounted the pump where the cruise box was on the firewall in the middle of the engine compartment. Tapped my washer fluid bottle so I didn't have to install a seperate one. I also put a light on the dash to indicate when the system kicked in so I knew what the boost...
Thanks Daren! I have been on here using the search function while building my car this winter. I haven't needed to post any questions as they ALL have been answered before. Now, I have advanced questions and can't post there so, here I am earning some points so I can do so. I have gained...
My buddy and I cut the bottom half of the bumper out on his "99. Worked great. Made some custom brackets on the botton and the intercooler is on there rock solid.
Look at the inject and see what brand they are. Get the serial number off of them and call/email the company they came from and they should be able to tell you. Good Luck!
A/C is an easy one..just remove and enjoy the weight savings. I had a hell of a time getting the pump out, it was like giving birth but it can be done. Find a non cruies cable, $20 on ebay and get rid of that ugly cruise cables. When I got rid of my cruise it made the pedal less sticky too.
Sounds like a CV joint could be bad. Check to see if the boot is torn, no grease equals worn parts. My buddies '91 AWD had the same problem and made the noises you describe. Jack the front up and see if the wheel rotates a bit back and forth without moving the axle. If there is alot of play...
You are a brave soul turboing a NT. It is much easier to just buy one and mod away. But, I know it can be done!! I am pretty sure you need to add a wiring harness to that list. Be ready to need to buy a bunch of little parts and have some extra money laying around to keep that project...
Glad to hear you made the Jump! Any and all questions about your car can be found on this site..the search function will be your best friend for the next few months.
Your valve guides could be leaking oil past the valves. Or a cracked piston ring from the rebuild. There are alot of ways to get oil into the engine and out the exhaust pipe. Is there a puff of blue smoke on start up? That would point towards the valve guides. Pressure test the cylinders...
Yup...you are right! ABS stands for Antilocking Braking System. The reason the site asks if you have ABS or not is because the piping needs to go around the large mess of brake lines and the actual ABS system that DSM's use. If you don't have ABS, there is alot more room for the intercooler...
Let me know what you find out about the lights not going down. Mine are doing the same thing. I can turn them down manually and they pop up with the light switch or binnacle button, but don't go down:(. I check the fuse under the dash, under the hood with both of them looking ok.
My car a 1G 1990 AWD TSI had a backfire, misfire problem when run up to 6300 rpm+ I put in new plug wires and all is good, I can bounce her off the rev limiter anytime I want without a problem. I didn't think the old wires were bad only being 6 months old, but the bad head design with the...
