  1. mud flaps on a 1g???

Ha ha, I haven't been on here for ages! I actually got mine off a local junkyard for $2. In the process of getting them off I got bit by a black snake that wouldn't move from under the driver's side front flap. I soon found out it had babies under there that tried slithering up my pant leg...
  2. who would build YOUR engine

I still second the Curt Brown motor. I've never met anyone do dedicated to DSMs and so willing to help you figure out how to make yours better. I stopped by to pick up a big brake kit and got an entire lesson on tuning with a wideband, intake plenum theory, and rear brake modification for...
  3. who would build YOUR engine

Why don't you look into having Curt Brown build your motor? http://www.curtbrownracing.com/He's super helpful and his motors are FLAWLESS.Personally I've seen some of Slowboy's work and I was not impressed with the tolerances they used.
  4. why do we keep dsm's

I keep mine because I fell in LOVE with it in college. I bought my first (94 Talon DL) after my mom totaled my other car. I kept it for around 2 years and sold it to a girlwho blew up the tranny in 3 days. Walked everyhwere for 6 months till I found a 92 Tsi. I took it off the road while in...
  5. I need inspiration for the long road ahead

Ok, it's time for me to get started on my DSM and I feel like I've lost my inspiration/motivation to get back into it.Story: Bought my first DSM in 99 (Talon DL); sold it in 2001; bought a 92 Tsi 5-speed 3 months later (and a lot of miles on my shoes). I know the car has the 6 bolt motor...
  6. Extrude Hone

I'm sure you guys have heard about this company and their wonderful porting jobs. My question is if I were to set up a meeting with the president of the company would there be enough people interested in getting stuff ported. Also, if I get them to do a couple pieces, say an intake manifold...

  8. What is/was your major in college?

    Physical Therapy
  9. Buschur Racing 15th Dsm/Evo Shootout

AAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH! That's the weekend I get married. I've been trying for the past 7 years to go to the Shootout and now that my car is finally at a stage where I can take it without being embarassed I still can't make it. Oh well, at least there's next year.
  10. 1g Wheels and Tires Size Questions [merged]fit fitment

Not to play devil's advocate, but be careful not only about rubbing on the inside, but also on the outside. I wanted to drop my Talon 2" but with my 8" wide 16's there was no way without damaging the fender during normal driving. I settled on the Eibach Pro-Kit and it gives me the lowered look...
  11. So what's the worst experience you've had installing a part?

It took me an entire week and two trips to Slowboy just to change out my two front axles. I learned early on that a 5lb sledge and a chisel are your friends when dealing with old 1g brakes, rotors, and axles.
  12. Looking for a new car......Suggestions???

    Good luck with the negotiations.
  13. Looking for a new car......Suggestions???

If you only need a 2-door car I'd say a Scion tc. If you go for the 4-door, look for an Avalon. My fiancee has an 06 tc and we love it and her parents have a 97 Avalon (bought it in 98 with 2K on the clock) with 110K on it and the only thing it has needed is new struts.
  14. Is it just me or are 1G AWD owners cocky as all hell...

I think I'm cocky in the sense of being mysterious. I'd show up somewhere with my 1g AWD and people would immediately think it was the baddest car there simply because it was an AWD turbo. I know what the car will do and I know what most of the people by me are getting out of their cars. I...
  15. Would you buy fiberglass doors for your 1g?

Yeah, I think the idea about using a metal cross-beam like the origianl door is a good idea. I'm not going to be using my car as a DD so I could probably get away with something that wasn't as safe as OEM, but would still provide some safety in a crash.
  16. What would you buy?

Well look at it this way, you're going to be looking at something around 15K if you finance it for 5 years. My fiance bought a tc for 18,100 and put 4K down (14,100 financed through toyota) and her payment is 297/mo for 60 months.
  17. Hardest thing you've done on your DSM

Replacing both front axles, the rotors, and the calipers. Look for my write up with pictures.
  18. Would you buy fiberglass doors for your 1g?

My answer depends on how good of quality we are talking about. I need new doors, but I want something that is going to allow me to bolt up the old power windows and panels without me having to drill all new holes and realign everything again. Also, what about the plastic body moldings, will we...
  19. What do you blast while drivin your DSM?

Breaking Benjamin as I roll on jack stands for the next 8 months.
  20. Has anyone heard of a talon DL????

I had a 94 DL that ended up getting me hooked on DSMs, that and a ride in a beefed up 91TSi.
  21. Engine build up checklist

Wait, let me get this straight. You are using a NT block and building a NT motor or a turbo motor? If I remember, isn't there something to do with the oil runners being different between the NT and turbo blocks?
  22. Stupid PA with their laws and regulations

Well I just talked to my dad and I think he's going to let me keep the car as a whole till I'm done with school and then once I have my own garage I will part out everything that I don't want/need to build either another 92-94 TSi or just use the 6-bolt in a 2nd gen AWD spyder.
  23. Stupid PA with their laws and regulations

In 2000, the car was sitting on a used car lot, a drunk lost control and hit the car parked 3 down from the Talon and pushed a car into it. The driver's side door was damaged along with the driver's side fender, hood, and front bumper. The frame was never bent but since there was a lot of...
  24. Stupid PA with their laws and regulations

So for those who don't know, I've been keeping my DSM in storage with the hopes of doing a complete restoration when I get done with school next May. The guy I bought it off of forgot to mention that the car was an R-title till I got to the notary with him, but it took me 3 months to find a 6/4...
  25. Any mountain bikers here? Gotta question.

I was just talking with the guys down at my local shop and they said most of the companies are getting away from the hydraulic brakes because of the complexity and the fact that if you get a leak on the trail you're brake is done for the day. They also said that some of the fluids they used get...
  26. Collector cars: Does anyone have a stored DSM or any other car for a collector car?

Sounds like me. Mine right now needs an alternator and instead of me just putting another one and dealing with it till something else went wrong it's sitting in the garage waiting for everything to get done at once. I've always been careful with my DSM and the fact that I'm still boosting...
  27. Collector cars: Does anyone have a stored DSM or any other car for a collector car?

I fully intend to rebuild my DSM once I get out of school. I've anguished over whether it would be easier for me to sell it and look for another when I get out of school or keep mine in storage. I decided that it took me 3 months of non-stop searching to find what I have and I'm not giving it...
  28. Finally Crankwalked so I'm going topless

I personally think you are gong to have more money in buying another car and dealing with the swap than fixing what you have. I was planning on doing an AWD spyder and everyone I talked to told me to get a gs-t first and do the AWD conversion. There is allegedly a kid near me that did the gs...
  29. NOOOO.....makes me want to punch a baby

When I went to take my exhaust mani off for the first time I had 4 out of 9 studs broken and all of them came out with a little heat and PB Blaster. The one that's a real pain is the stud going from the turbo to the manifold.
  30. Sell the 1g in favor of a 2g spyder?

A DECISION HAS BEEN MADE! I've decided to keep the car and I'll just stick it out till school's over with and then rebuild it. I think I'm going for a .10 over engine with a stage II head and semi-aggressive cams. For the turbo I'm thinking EVO 16 setup with the proper fuel and air mods. I'm...
  31. Sell the 1g in favor of a 2g spyder?

Yeah, getting a job would be nice, but I can't really work during the week due to my 40 hours of classtime and the having to study at night and my weekends lately have been studying. I do work on my spring break and over the summer in the machine shop and I do work on DSMs for money but it's...
  32. Sell the 1g in favor of a 2g spyder?

I wouldnt' be giving the car to her, I would be selling it outright for whatever I can get to pay for other current expenses like school and planning a wedding. Then after I graduate and have a place to work on a car I could start looking for the spyder and doing all the work. I'm not a throw...
  33. Sell the 1g in favor of a 2g spyder?

I have to disagree. Look how many older cars there are out there that are restored that are worth way more than their original value. I'm not saying that DSMs should shoot through the roof in value, but I am saying that if an older vehicle is well taken care of and properly modified, then it...
  34. Sell the 1g in favor of a 2g spyder?

Well DSMs are pretty sparse where I live and it took me 3 months to find one that was in decent shape. When I bought it, the car had new paint as well as a complete new set of engine gaskets, belts, and hoses all done at a Mitsu garage. The car came with 2 sets of wheels (stock and chrome) and...
  35. Sell the 1g in favor of a 2g spyder?

2k, are you serious? Sorry but I'd ask a little more than that considering all the work that I have done to the car plus the fact that I have almost all of the maintenance and documentation on the car. I've also got 3 sets of wheels with good tires on all 3 sets and a practically new set of...
  36. Sell the 1g in favor of a 2g spyder?

1800-2200 even with all the maintenance records from 40K miles on and documentation, wow, DSMs really do plummet in value.I'm driving my fiance's old 94 Sentra for the time being because it gets like 30mpg everywhere and I bought it off her for $1500 since she needed money to go towards her...
  37. Sell the 1g in favor of a 2g spyder?

Here's my problem. I've got 3 semesters of school left (done spring 07) and I'm getting a lot of flack from my fiance about keeping my DSM while I'm still in school.History: Car is a 92 Tsi with 120K on it sitting under a cover at my parent's house while I'm at school. The only reason I...
  38. How did you Fall in love with Dsm's

I had a buddy in college that took me home top vote one year in his 91 Tsi AWD auto. I started to become interested and one day he took me out to Curt Brown's place to see what a DSM could really do. I was hooked after that. After 6 months of searching and almost having to walk everywhere for...
  39. Got a new ride

Just a piece of advice from someone with two family members with Tcs and one of them being the same color as yours, find a place that does the 3M paint protection kits and get the full bumper kit. It's about $350 installed around here but it is worth every penny to not wake up a couple weeks...
  40. As Promised Earlier

Nope, my gf's car came with Bridgestone Potenza RE 92 tires in a 215/45 17. Here's the specs: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.jsp?make=Bridgestone&model=Potenza+RE92&vehicleSearch=false&fromCompare1=yes&partnum=145ZR7RE92
  41. As Promised Earlier

They all have what looks like a black roof because they are an all glass roof. My girlfriend just picked up her azure pearl 06 tc auto with the only option being the side impact airbags for 18,165. This didn't even include floor mats or anything. The tc is more expensive than the Xa and Xb...
  42. Questions about finding Scion tc info

thanks, hopefully someone there will know
  43. Questions about finding Scion tc info

Hey guys, the gf just decided that she wants to get a tc and I've been trying to find all the information I can about it just to make sure it's truly the best decision. I don't want to hear about why a tc is a piece of crap or anything like that, it's definately the best mix of "performance"...
  44. new intake - boost problems

Found the problem. The hose going between my BOV and my MBC has a tiny hole in it that was being made by rubbing on the ABS mount. Replaced the hose and ground the edge of the mount smooth and now I have no problems at all.
  45. scion xA?

I think people who are buying a TC are looking for something with a sporty look, but that typical toyota "no brainer" appeal. The car should be reliable since they used most of the motor and tranny parts from the camry. I know my girlfriend is ordering either a black cherry pearl or azure blue...
  46. Does anyone know where you can find replacement center caps for aftermarket wheels?

Try the local large wheel shop that deals with Enkei and see if they can't make a call and help you out. If not call Enkei directly and see if someone there can find some. I had to call Australia 8 times to find a new set of center caps for my PCW wheels. I decided after all that work that I...
  47. new intake - boost problems

I have C. It just goes right past where it should be set and stays there. I'm wondering if I have a crack or something in the line going to my wastegate.
  48. new intake - boost problems

I start noticing the boost getting high around 3500-4500 rpm when I'm WOT. The system will jump up to around 19-21, level off at 5 grand and receed down to about 18 by 5500.It really wants to spike right after a shift if I get on the gas again. It got to around 23 and I let off the last...
  49. new intake - boost problems

I'm still having some problems with the boost. I don't think I'm having this much problem with boost creep beacuse I ported the wastegate to allow it to open the entire way and I ported and polished all the holes. I cranked my MBC out the whole way yesterday and I'm still staying around 16lbs...
  50. new intake - boost problems

I pitched the old BCS a while ago and everything is hooked up to the new intake except for the charcoal line and I know that's not the problem. I'm going to recheck the lines to see if I got a kink somewhere.
