Actually, The front and rear mounts on a 1g are on the engine. On a 2g they're on the transmission. that's why a 1g tranny won't work on a 2g. There's no mount points on a 1g transmission.
How bad is the crack in the bellhousing? If it's bad enough, the transmission could be moving away from the engine and not letting the clutch disengage.
What you're looking for is an inverter.

You can also find a 6 bolt 4G64 in the early '92 Mitsubishi Expo, Eagle Summit Wagon and Plymouth Colt Vista. If it has the 8 valve head, it's a 6 bolt. Too bad you're so far away, I have a spare shortblock in my garage.
You said the turbo was new. Was the old one blown? If so, there's probably oil in the intercooler and piping, unless you took it apart and cleaned it all out.
I think he meant transistor, not translator. The power transistor on the back of the engine on the driver's side just below the coil pack. Make sure it's plugged in. anything having to do with the auto trans harness shouldn't affect the running of the engine. Does your check engine light come on...
How long did you run the car? We did the same thing to my son's '90 GST and it took about 2 hours to push all the oil out of the the intercooler from the old turbo being bad.
If it's hard to get into gear from a stop, it sounds like the clutch isn't releasing all the way. It may have worn linkage at the pedal assembly. I'd check that first.
I know this an old post, but I thought I'd add some info I didn't find anywhere else. I just put a '93 Trans in my '90 GSX. I used the shifter and cables from a '92 FWD with a 1.8, so the cables from a 1.8 car will work for the swap.:thumb:
I've had that happen to me twice. The first one was a '70 Monte Carlo. It was at the wrecking yard about 3 years after I sold it. The second one was an '81 K5 Blazer with 7" lift and 35's. I sold it to my boss' son. If I'd known he was going to scrap it, I would've bought it back. It made me...
Nice find. Do you have any pics of the '90 with the black hood on it? I have one the same color and need to replace the hood. I just want to see what it looks like.
If your brake pedal is stiff and it stalls when you apply the brakes, it sounds like the diaphram in you brake booster may be ruptured. Do what Steve said and pull the vacuum line to the booster and cap it off and see if it still stalls. If it doesn't stall, then it's time for a new booster.
Do the Colts have a temperature switch on the thermostat housing like the DSM's? I had a similar issue with my '91 Talon. The inside of the switch came apart. Just a thought.
I've has a couple of DSM's lose the prime in the oil pump after sitting. I took a gear oil pump (hand pump you can get at Autozone for $4) and attached a piece of small diameter hose to it. Then i removed one of the oil pressure senders and pushed the tube into the hole and pumped about 1/2 to...
If you had a blown turbo, your intercooler probably has oil in it, too. My son bought a '90 GST with a blown turbo and after he replaced the turbo, it smoked like crazy until he ran all the oil out of the intercooler (he was too lazy to pull the intercooler and clean it):D You also need to break...
Mine does that when it's below 35 degrees outside. When it floods out, I open the rear hatch and unplug the fuel pump. Then i crank it until it starts and runs out of fuel. Then I plug the pump back in and start it with the throttle wide open. Sometimes it takes a couple of tries. It starts fine...
Last time I called in sick, I was on Vicadin for the pain from getting a tiny piece of rusty metal stuck in my eyeball. they had to use a metal pick to get it out. For some reason, they didn't want me driving a truck on Vicadin. That was the 2nd time in 9 years I've called in sick.
Not so much luck. It's my daily ride and I can't stand driving my wife's '96 Jetta. :notgood: I was going to rebuild it after the first of the year, but a broken timing belt on the way to work just before Thanksgiving pushed my plans up a little. I had to cash in a week of vacation time to help...
My year-round car was my '92 GSX until the T-belt broke. I'm driving my wife's '96 Jetta until I get my new motor put together. I should be up and running in about 3 weeks.
Are you saying the tranny is moving away from the block when you push the clutch pedal? If so, check to see if the belhousing bolts are loose or missing. Otherwise, you might have a cracked bellhousing. If it has been driven like that for a while, the syncros are probably trashed.
This is just an opinion, but I think you'd be better off getting a turbo car. It's a lot less headache. If you keep your eyes open , you can get one that needs a little work for a failry reasonable price. That's just my $.02
Do A leakdown test and see where you're losing compression in that cylinder before you start tearing into it. As far as reusing the head gasket, I always use a new one. I have no idea what you're talking about as far as a DOHC "key", so I can't help you there. I hope this helps a little.
Contact the bank and see if you can refinance it over a longer period of time. That will make the payments more manageable. I had a foreclosure in 2000 and it took 5 years to get to where I could buy anything on credit.
You may also want to check the connections at your coolant temp sensor (the one with 2 wires going to it just under the thermostat housing). If the wires are broken, the ECU will default to a cold start setting and start dumping fuel. My son's GST had the same problem. It would start when it was...
I only have to tow them home when I get them (i'm too cheap to buy a running one). I have a tow dolly, so It only costs gas money in my Suburban. It's just a pain when I get an AWD bucause I have to crawl under the car and disconnect the rear driveshaft.
I've had some painful experiences. I dislocated my thumb while replacing the speedo cable on my '91 talon. I was pushing the grommet into the hole in the firewall when I felt a snap and my thumb popped backwards and touched my wrist then popped back into place. It swelled up immediately. I...
I've always used brake cleaner. Also, did you check/replace your cam seals? This would be a good time to do so. It may have been part of the reason there was oil all over the timing cover. Just my $.02
I just bought a gallon of the purple degreaser at Walmart and it works great. I put it in a spray bottle and sprayed it on and let it sit for a few minutes and sprayed it off with a pressure washer and it looks great. I also used it on my 4G64 6 bolt block when I was rebuilding it and it looked...
The oil pressure gauge and the oil light are on 2 different sensors. If you look at the oil filter housing you'll see a large sensor and a small one. The large one is for the gauge and the small one is for the light. When you unhook it, just tie the wire up out of the way and it should be fine.
With the vibration and everything you described, it sounds like one of the springs on the hub of the clutch disc may have come off and bound up the pressure plate. Just a thought.
I had a manual trans ECU in my auto Talon and had no problems. I'd try to track down a TCU and go from there. I think the TCU's are all the same for the 1g's, so they should be easy to find.
