Just an FYI. CT DSM (ccdsm.net) is doing a DSM drag day on July 9th at LVD. I went 1 1/2 years ago and had a good time. I think I did about 6 runs, but probably could've gotten a lot more in.Chris
Hmmm...that's wierd. It was just working last night. It is in the Wawarsing/Ellenville/Thompson/Monticello/Walton area. Pretty large area, but its a pretty large race :)
Cars were on display tonight. The Wawarsing spectator area is open from 1230-1700 tomorrow, then the Thompson/Monticello...
What's up everyone? I live in Oneonta. Albany DSM used to have a decent following, but then everyone disappeared. Does anybody ever go to Lebanon Valley? I went with the CTDSM guys last fall, it was great.
If anybody ever wants to meet up or needs help working on their car, I'm game.Chris
I think I'm gonna try shimming it out a little. If I'm motivated enough I'll rip it apart again and take some pics.
Thanks so much for the help. When it comes to electronics I'm done. Barely passed any of those classes in tech school.Chris
Great! One problem solved. I ran a 2 gauge cable up to the engine bay and connected it to one of the tranny bolts. I almost forgot it could ever crank that fast :) Although I'm still getting the starter squeal.
Thanks!!Chris
First off, here's a video of the engine cranking with the MPI fuse out.

Unfortunately my server seems to be down right now, so I had to go with google. Hopefully the vid works.
I believe the wire I used for the battery relocation...
The slow cranking is most likely because my battery is nearly dead. I have serious issues keeping a charge with any battery. Batteries and alternator both test Ok. I've checked for shorts using the test light in series with the negative battery cable, but find none. That's another thing...
Excellent!
It was my first time going through a starter, so I'm not sure how well I'll be able to describe what I saw (or didn't see) :)
There was one ball bearing that sat on the end of the large rotor/stator? type device. As for the gearing, I didn't see any bearings that I could get at...
I've searched around a bit, on these forums and others, however I still haven't been able to find a solution to this problem.
It started around the time that I rebuilt my motor (Approx. 10K miles ago). Shortly after it began happening, I replaced the starter with a remanufactured unit. The...
Driving a car with an aftermarket hood without hood pins is like going around banging every chick without using a condom. Sure it might look a little funny, and it doesn't feel the same, but just think of all the confidence you'll have knowing nothing is gonna happen.
I know a few guys who had...
One of the reasons I got rid of mine is because it kept leaking on my alternator. I went through 2 or 3 before I finally said screw it and got a manual rack.
The engine bay looks cleaner without the pump, oil lines and reservoir, and the little bit of weight you save doesn't hurt either.Chris
Its very hard to describe, and its even more difficult to do. The only advise I can think to give is to reach down with the wrench and mess around with it until you get it to fit. If I recall correctly it was one of those situations where you have to turn, flip the wrench, turn, flip, etc...
K&N RC-5050
http://www.knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?Prod=rc-5050
http://www.martelbrothers.com/customer/product.php?productid=KNERC-5050&cat=&page=1I believe they make them with a plain black rubber top, but I don't know the part number for that offhand. RC-5050 is the filter I'm...
I ordered a set of gunmetal Grids from MachIII, they SHOULD be here in about a month. They had to order them from Rota. I'll post some pics once I get them.
I love my slipstreams, but it seems like everybody and their cousin has them. That and the fact that I wanted a change.Chris
I've had a set of Slipstreams for awhile and I like them. The only problem I've had is one of my center caps losening up a little. You can spin it pretty easily, but I've never had it fall out or anything. I like Rota so much I just bought a set of Grids a couple months ago.Chris
I agree with everybody else. Gary is a great guy. I've bought from him several times, and even met him on a couple occasions. Two thumbs up. :thumb: :thumb:
Just thought I'd post this up. I tinted the front and corner lenses on my Eclipse this morning. I was going to use the VHT Nightshades, but I was afraid it might be too dark. Instead I went with Model Master Transparent Black Window Tint. This stuff is intended for use with model and R/C...
Mine don't squeak at all, not yet anyway (keeping fingers crossed) :D
Laser4G63: I had to cut the eccentric bolts at the front of the trailing arms on mine, sounds exactly like you. What a bi*** that was! I went through quite a few sawzall blades.Chris
I installed the energy suspension bushings last summer. The hardest part was getting some of the frozen bolts off on the rear. The front and most of the rear was easy on mine.Chris
What color are you planning on getting? Mach III has no 5X114 16" Gunmetal Grids in stock. The guy told me it would be 60-90 days because they would have to be special ordered from Rota. I have a friend who went through the same thing in the past, but was dealing directly with Rota.
The wait...
I ordered a set of those last month from Mach III, unfortunately I won't have them for at least another month or two (they're special order from Rota). On the off chance I get them really early I'll post a pic for you.Chris
I know Gary personally and I've bought from him many times in the past, he's a really great guy.
Why don't you sell the auto trans yourself? Just put it up on DSMTrader or something.Chris
I have that setup on my '90 GSX. When I did the alignment after installing everything I couldn't get the rear camber into spec. I already had a camber kit on the front.
The rear camber was way out and trashed my tires. I bought an Ingalls kit, but then realized that the Energy Suspension...
Hey, where in NY do you live?
I'm an admin at the Mirage Performance Forums (ALTR EVO). I'd gladly help with the swap if you're nearby. There's a lot of info about this swap on our forums, check out the knowledge base and search around a bit.Chris
Unfortunately the 5G Mirage engine sits 180 degrees opposite of the DSM 4G63. It would be like swapping a 4G63 into a 2GNT. The Evo IV-VIII motors work well for this swap, even though they're a bit more difficult to get a hold of.Chris
Its too bad they never sold the 4G or 5G Mitsubishi Colt/Mirage Cyborg over here. It would be hard for me to resist doing a 4G63 swap into one of those. This is the 9 sec Colt I mentioned previously. When the guy originally did the swap the engine was mostly stock and the car was...
Its actually a LOT easier than swapping a 4G63 into a 2GNT. I dunno about the 3G, but only one mount needs to be modded to fit a 4G63 into a 4G. Everything else bolts up, and with the correct flywheel/clutch setup you can use any of the stock Mirage trannys.
Other than Sakura, the fastest vid...
I'm an admin over at www.mirageforums.net I've seen quite a few '89-'92 (3G) and '93-'96 (4G) Mirage/Colt/Summits with a 4G63 swap from a DSM. If you want I even have a bunch of vids of swapped 4Gs on the track.
We also have a handful of users that have Evo IV-VI motors swapped into their...
Mine did the same thing. When I rebuilt my motor I sand blasted the oil pan and painted it, but the finish didn't last long. I eventually replaced it because one of the turbo drain line nuts stripped.
All you have to do is loosen up the driver's side axle carrier bearing so that you can get...
I've got a clip of my 1G with 3" turbo back and Thermal R&D muffler. I don't have anywhere to host it, so you'll have to hit me up on AIM if anybody wants to hear it.Chris
