Check and make sure that your intercooler piping has no leaks, the same problem happened to me, exaclty, while I was on it. Just check for any leaks and you might be fine.

Wires will not give you any more hp with factory ignition. the difference you feel will be what you were losing through you worn out old parts.

Chech and make sure you don't have any leaks in your hoses. One of them might have popped off. It happened to me last week and it would not rev over 2500 rpm, and it would shut down while idling.

I just put Mobil 1 Syntethic gear oil in my gear box like 4 months ago, and it has not made any difference. TechT, please tell us if it has made any difference, so that we can all benefit from it.
