Keep it coming! Love using Kevin's and your car as inspiration.

  3. Road Racing - FMIC

Well, I'm happy to report that there is a light at the end of the tunnel to the overheating issues. Tonight we went back out for testing with the lower scoop sealed up. A couple of rolled up t-shirts and duct tape did the trick. Another tid bit to mention is that temps were much colder than...
  4. Road Racing - FMIC

If it's worth doing, it's worth over doing.I was hanging out over at Track Time Performance, brain storming more ideas with my suspension guy Curt when he mentioned something that he liked to do on modified Audis, Porsches, and BMWs. There's a nifty gasket material made by Percy's High...
  5. Road Racing - FMIC

Wow what a difference. Didn't get a chance to log as my laptop battery died, but temps never hit above 210 according to the CEL. Able to do some back to back WOT runs without any hic-cups. Have one more alteration to the heat shield, but I think this may have nipped it. Will still test...
  6. Road Racing - FMIC

Lets see if this does the trick :D
  7. Road Racing - FMIC

I see two major advantages the Evo's front bumper over the 2Ga or 2Gb. One would be that it is taller and two it has two openings (one being specifically for the the radiator). The SSE TA Evo looks to have both radiator and IC placed at an angle. V mount setups like that found on an RX7 seem...
  8. Road Racing - FMIC

Love the ideas and support this thread is generating. I'll certainly give this a shot :thumb:
  9. Road Racing - FMIC

Sealing off the IC to rad is something Scott pointed out very early on, but just haven't got around to testing yet. I know the splitter and hood combination work as testing with it on and off shows dramatic differences in temps. Now whether or not its due to increasing the pressure zone in...
  10. Overheating at track

No doubt a vented hood is a deal breaker, and with proper ducting to direct air flow I believe there's a point where that type of setup will yeild those results. But with a FMIC in front of the rad, there's a huge difference on my car with the fans on and off. TWS is a fairly high speed track...
  11. Best road racing turbo on 2.4

Curious if your are aiming to run in a particular class or just for getting out there to learn. If you are the later, I recommend something like a 14b or 16g. Crazy am I? Like a fox ;pOne of the hardest things for students to grasp is conservation of momentum. This is why low, under...
  12. 18X9/9.5 wheels, whos running them?

Based on what I've run with my car, I think the biggest difference between the 9 and 9.5" wheels will determine how big of a tire you can run. Of course offset will play a huge factor into this, but say using an offset that allows you to run the wheel as inboard as possible to keep the wheels...
  13. Overheating at track

I thought the same too until I spoke with my suspension specialist (his dad is a NASA engineer). Even though the air in front of the radiator is traveling faster than what the fans can move, this does make a difference. Instead of pulling the air through, what the fans do is create a low...
  14. Road Racing - FMIC

Here's a better pic with the IC in place. The ducting you see sits between the IC and core support with the only additional opening being the lower scoop. The splitter in it's current form is made of 1/4 plastic. I have some bracing to add to increase rigidity and will be lining the bottem...
  15. Road Racing - FMIC

Just for you :DI'll be sure to keep this post updated and hopefully a resolution. For those just joining:Things done: - vented hood - sealing radiator - ducting w/ lower scoop - splitter - lower temp thermostat - aluminum radiator / using stock fans (full on via DSMLink) - 100%...
  16. Road Racing - FMIC

Thanks for the pics. Those will certainly help during the fab stage. Hopefully the sum of all these changes equates to a reliable track monster so it can get back in the business of chasing down german kraut and american muscle.I had a similar issue with the PS fluid leaking from the cap...
  17. Road Racing - FMIC

Look forward to seeing that new bumper. Race cars should always be function over form. The pretty stuff happens on the podium :hellyeah:I'll be switching to the Evo III OFH and an air to air oil cooler soon, but I planned on running the cooler where the stock SMIC resides due to the larger...
  18. Road Racing - FMIC

Well things are starting to look a little more promising. Went out to do some testing in a somewhat scientific manner.1) First test scenario - sustained 80mph cruise in 5th gear2) Load test - 70mph in 3rd gear (~5400rpms)*All tests were monitored via DSMLink and the cooling system...
  19. Road Racing - FMIC

Thanks for the replys all. All great ideas. I'll get to testing as soon as the weather clears. The two side ducts are actually going to be modified for air-water oil cooler and trans cooler at some points. I picked up two Setrab coolers and have an EVOIII oil housing waiting to go on...
  20. Road Racing - FMIC

Interesting thought there Scott. I like it and will certainly give that a whirl. The t-stat is something I need to check on, as it's an auto-parts piece. Fluid mix is 100% water w/ water wetter. air-to-oil cooler is in the works.pboglio, for street use it's fine. I can sit at a red...
  21. Road Racing - FMIC

Check, done, and all done. DSMLink has the fans on full active duty. Just for reference, cruising temps are 186-193.
  22. Road Racing - FMIC

Over the summer my 2G has taken on quite a transformation primarily due to loosing the motor last Nov. Part of the project buildup was a 2.4L motor and stepping up the turbo to make the car competitive for NASA TT and RTA. Of course this meant it was time for a FMIC.I'm not looking for...
  23. H&R sport springs?

I ran the OE springs with the Koni Yellows. From what I understand the only difference is the height, the spring rates are the same. If I ever revert my eclipse back to street duty, I will purchase another set. Here is a little reading material for you...
  24. Punishment racing fmic for 2g

Anyone having cooling issues? I live in Texas and my car requires A/C :DThought I'd share a few pics of my install and subsequent ducting to address cooling issues.
  25. I want Suspension that would kill a BMW

For street suspension I would recommend Koni and H&Rs.http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/handling-tech/238895-kosei-k1-ts-17x9.html
  26. wheel offset and tires

Make sure the suspension will keep the fenders from rubbing. Otherwise you'll end up with some interesting handling characteristics. Since your FWD, you might consider playing with staggered sets? Just a thought.
  27. wheel offset and tires

Agree with rEclipserGST on the 17s. Lighter wheels and reduced cost of tires...win win.As for offset, it really depends more on the tire size then rim. Select size (class based), type of tire (different tires run wider than others), then select wheel and offset. As you go wider...
  28. Konig Zero

40 will fit just fine. With a 17x8 you can actually run anything from a 35-40. For everyday street tires I recommend the Falken ZE-912. For performance Azenis RT-615 or the new Nitto NT-05 look promising.
  29. 2G Brake Fade?

In my experience a stock full weight GSX or one with power modifications will incur fade at some point on a high speed track/circuit. Prior to my current setup I was running R4-Es up front, Axis in the back, and on stock rotors. At the end of a 25-30 min. session I could feel the onset of fade...
  30. Best road racing turbo on 2.4

Just curious to see if you have thought about approaching this from the other side. How much tire are you going to run and how much braking can your setup handle? I know this may seem like an odd approach, but tracking is more than sheer power and straight line speed. On a track like TWS...
  31. Creating a Fast Lap database, need suggestions

Here's some for the Texas area:Motorsports Ranch Cressen - 1.7 and 3.1 configurations Motorsports Ranch Houston Texas World Speedway - 2.9 (CW and CCW) Eagles Canyon Raceway Harris Hill RacewayWhat about accepting logs from data acquisition systems (ex. Traqmate)?
  32. A summer of racing...my 2g Talon!

Just curious, what spring rates, ride heights, and tire/tire sizes are yall using? I don't seem to have much issue with the setup (cept when I decide to go curb hopping). While keeping the car low for CG purposes, suspension travel is also important.
  33. Are eBay control arms any good?

Mine are holding up, but the dust boots for the ball joints all tore within a month of them on the car. Reverting to OEM units, I don't think the quality of the rubber used was sufficient.
  34. A summer of racing...my 2g Talon!

When you purchased the JICs did you specify what type of tires you were planning on running? One thing I've noticed as compared to most other Mullerized JIC's is that my springs are not the standard purple color. Not sure if that means they are a different spring rate, but the amount of abuse...
  35. 17x9 35+ offset Good Choice! 2g!

  36. No more insurance coverage on track events..

Correct. This really applies directly to those that are doing HPDE type events (maybe even car clinics and auto-x). I know in Texas we've followed 'race = timed event' rule of thumb, but that looks to be changing across the nation. On one hand it's one of those things that could be a deal...
  37. No more insurance coverage on track events..

Curious on your thoughts.Insurance companies close track day and advanced training loopholes - Autoblog
  38. Just finished replacing all 6 control arms in the front.

Guess it could be possible, but I didn't alter mine any when I had the car on H&R OE springs or the JICS. I could almost be considered 'slammed' with the JICS and haven't had any issues with the tie rods.
  39. Just finished replacing all 6 control arms in the front.

Been tracking on my setup since March. The 150K tie rods are A-OK, but the aftermarket control arms have gone to <bleep>. The ball joints themselves are ok, but dust boots for ball joints have torn. Despite decent reviews from numerous sites, it seems there are no replacements for OEM pieces...
  40. Megan Racing Coilover Damper Kit(Street Series) or koni and h&r

I'm not sure on the Eibachs progressive springs, but the H&R spring rates supposedly hold across all their lines of springs. I doubt any of the spring rates go higher than what's listed. As you said their 'race' spring is more for show than anything else.
  41. Megan Racing Coilover Damper Kit(Street Series) or koni and h&r

Hey Freerevving, claming up won't do this community any good. Experience with different brands do account for a lot and I for one am glad you spoke up. Internet = misinterpretation. :thumb: Like you I'm more familiar with another setup than the OP, but I've helped setup and been around a few...
  42. Megan Racing Coilover Damper Kit(Street Series) or koni and h&r

You said it, mind listing those suspension setups and your driving experience? :p I'm not here to pick a fight, but the opinions you are stating are against the norm and this information would be super useful to the 1G guys. I see you're in Houston, where abouts? As for my experience with...
  43. * * hey guys.....

Currently in the same situation myself. I'm waiting on my Wedge Engineering floor bracket to come in, but some rough measurements show that my Sparco Circuit Pro seat should just snug in the cabin. The seat uses the lowest setting on the side mount rails and is 36.5" tall for comparison...
  44. Megan Racing Coilover Damper Kit(Street Series) or koni and h&r

Where did you get this information? I'm pretty sure that Eibach springs are softer than the H&R springs on a 2G application by quite a bit. The H&R OE and Sport springs have the same spring rate, just different heights.I normally recommend the Eibach/Illumina combo to those that are street...
  45. How to prevent seizing of Suspension....

When torquing down suspension bolts, make sure the car is at rest. Meaning on the ground at it's normal ride height. If they are tightened at full droop, the bushing will see increased stress and can cause premature wear and/or symptoms you mentioned.
  46. 2G Brake booster & weak braking

Good point on the bleed order. The service manual also says to have the car running while performing the bleed. What type of pads are you running? Properly bedded in? Rotors have hot spots or deposits? Also check your wheel bearings. I know this sounds crazy, but a slight play in the...
  47. H&R Springs and camber "?"

Anytime, that's what a forum is for :thumb: Just wish I was on more often.I agree with the both your statments, and believe me I had to go to great lengths to make the SPC arms work (option B). I've pondered about trying the eccentric bushings with a set of stock UCAs, but I'm set for now...
  48. H&R Springs and camber "?"

H&R OE springs, no front camber adjustment (no a fan of the elliptical bushings) and ~1/8" worth of washers out back. Drop it off at an alignment shop and call it a day. :thumb:
  49. Did my suspension do this ??? ( Please Look)

This may not apply to street driving, but if your tracking your DSM, you want to know the 'hot' tire temps as opposed to 'cold' temps. Different tracks will heat each tire differently and getting them to the same operating pressures means leveling them out after a few flying laps. Also...
  50. Mounting fixed back seats in a 2G?

Just curious how some of yall have mounted your racing seats in the car? I have a Sparco Circuit Pro seat a with the side mounts, but found out this weekend that I can't simple mount it to the floor pan as I originally intended to.Was thinking about building a base off of the original...
