Now it's gone for sure. Buyer came with cash in hand and we both came out happy. He even took most of the parts and old block I had. I cleaned off two shelves and some floor space.
I've decided that it's time to let go of my Talon. My son left for the Navy and I don't want it to sit around all winter. I would like it to go to someone who shares my interest in DSMs. It's a 97 TSi fwd 5 speed. It has about 145K on the car and 108k on the motor. I'm asking $3000. PM me...
The car has been inspected and on the road for some time now. It took a lot more work than I thought it would. One I got it running and driving around a little, the water pump started leaking. The guy who replaced it 7 YEARS AGO covered it under waranty. I only had to pay labor, which is the...
I got the new part welded in and crudely painted. Just need to reassemble things now - and replace all the bolts that snapped off when I took things apart.:thumb:
This Is almost becoming a build thread. I did make some progress today and it's making me feel better about continuing. All the rusted support parts are off. Now I need to prep the new part to weld in.
Well, I'm committed to give it go. The new rad support came in today. Hardware and rubber isolators need to be my next purchases. There is rust on each of the strut towers but that can be patched and painted without much problem.
That's something I'm considering right now. I just got it running again and remembered how much fun it is, but there are so many little things to do.:ohdamn:
I'm at a crossroad. I really like my old talon and I want to get it back on the road as a car for my son. The main thing I need to fix now is the radiator support. I started the project and I'm a little overwhelmed by it. I don't have a ton of money into it yet, but I'm wondering if it's...
I'm trying to get my 97 talon back on the road. One roadblock I've hit is my radiator support (lower side) is rusted beyond any hope of using. Does anyone have any knowledge or experience replacing this?
Well, I'm still using the front bumper. I'll let the wing go by it self. $50
I mainly kept the hatch because it has good glass in it.Here is what I have now. It's not this clean any more, but it's still running.http://www.dsmtuners.com/gallery/files/4/4/7/0/100_0986.jpg
This is Pennsylvania. Of course there is rust.;) but not too much. There are some scratches and the clear coat on the wind has some chips. How about $100?
Thanks for the reply anyway. Just for background, I got the gauges used. The previous owner said everything was working fine. All the wiring was set up with the power wires tied together and ground wires tied together for all three gauges. I connected them to power and ground and...
I have a request. I just got a several gauges for my car. I'm having trouble getting the boost gauge - AEM TRUBOOST - to work. I think my wiring is right. I have power to my oil pressure and A/F gage. Is there anyone local that has this gauge? I would like to plug it in to see if I have a bad...
Don't be a hater :thumb: I only got them because they were such a great deal.... that turned out to not be so great.I was a DSM owner for a long time before I got the Evo. Still love the DSM's.
I bought some 18" rims to use for a set of winter wheels for my Evo. I thought everything was good until I tried to put them on over the front brakes. The Brembo calipers are too wide and hit the back side of the spokes. I haven't tried them on my talon yet, but with the stock calipers, I...
I think it's more in the picture. The tires are pretty low profile (245/40 18's). The tires in the picture were about bald too. I just put the new summers on today.
I've driven a friend's '04 Evo VII. It's a blast too. It is definately harsher than my X. But there was such a difference between the X and my 97 TSi, that it took me a while to get used to the X. I think the X is just as exciting to drive as the 8 or 9, but leaves the driver in better shape...
Thanks. The black on black is what caught my eye first.
No major plans yet. My first thing I need is some summer tires. I got the car last October and it had bald all-season tires on it. We had a crazy winter here in PA, so I put some good winter tires on and had a blast. I need to get...
This sounds like a newby question to me, so that's where it's going.
I'm getting ready to paint my car. I found a new hatch to replace my existing one due to rust issues. The new hatch has the antenna in the window option. I'm considering shaving the fender antenna and just using the window...
For those of you who go without a heat shield or use an aftermatket one, what do you do with the O2 sensor wire? The stock heat shield has supports that hold the wire off the shield. Just asking...
It's possible to over-tighten the nut that holds the shifter on the pivot shaft. This nut should be a nylock style locknut - meaning that it has a nylon insert to to keep it from coming loose on it's own. You may just have this nut a little too tight.
Maybe it wasn't considered an "option", but I don't think it's after-market. My car has a rubber plug in the hole where the wire from the new hatch needs to go. It looks like the car is ready for the wiring to be hooked up, but it just wasn't used on mine.

I had a similar problem with my stock unit. I tried working with the antenna wire and it seemed to help for a while, but over time the problem got worse. For a while I could only pick up radio stations if it was above 70 deg. outside. The best I can figure is that the tuner went bad. I...
When you say "a lot of vibration", how do you measure that? If "car shaking apart" is a 10 and "just a tingle in the hands and seat" is a 1, I'm probably only feeling a 2 or 3. If the balance shaft is out 180, should I be feeling more than that? Am I being fussy? It just doesn't feel the...
Im appealing to the DSM wisemen. I recently had work done my car. The water pump was leaking, so when replacing that, I had the garage do the timing belt and the balance shaft belt too. I have about 60k on the motor, it was time. Now I feel more vibration in the cockpit. The car seems to...
I think with that intake pipe you are forced to vent to atmosphere, but it shouldn't be a problem with the blow through set up.I was also going to ask if you had a plan for an exhaust upgrade. Either a full exhaust or cat-back with hi-flow cat will make a noticeable difference in the car's...
