That's awesome! Now you know my dumb screen name from 20 years ago. :)I find it funny how many of these builds never come close to their goals. I see a lot of 8,9,10 second street car builds in the related posts whenever i come here, some are very old and almost none of them have any...
Great parts and great companies matter! Here's why:Coming into Sick Week this year I changed my fuel system to save a little weight (more to follow in another post). Essentially I just put the car on straight E85 for racing. It's cold in the north east right now so after getting the whole...
lol! Fred's awesome. I probably would have been on more days coverage but having so much success actually hurt me there! They ran slick tire quicker than 10.00 cars first on 3 of the 5 days because we were the smallest group so I was almost always one of the first cars to run every day. That...
No complaints here, I was happy to get coverage. As of a few hours ago 1320Videos post on IG had more likes than any other sick week post they made so far. I believe there will be a few more features on the car coming out soon so stay tuned. As for haters, they're always going to be there...
Sick Week 2023 is in the books and damn was it awesome!8.76 average over 5 days and 800 miles reclaiming the record of quickest drag and drive 4 cylinder!Winner of Sick Week FreaksWinner of Quickest 4 CylinderNew best ET of 8.713New Best MPH of 160.61 mphNew best 60' of 1.273...
Bumping this back up. The car is running great, nestled in the garage and taken out for the occasional trip.I'm contemplating getting a new turbo for the car for next year but not sure what to go with. I'd like something that can run mid/high 8's without really stressing. I like the...
You should be used to how slow I am by now. ;)I wouldn't give up the time I get to spend with my dad racing for anything. I'm so lucky I get to do this with him. I'm starting to share racing more with my wife too which is super cool.
I think it's time to add some info on our 4G63 dragster here. We built this car back in 2008 and have been racing it ever since. This car is owned by my father and me and we do virtually everything on the car. We bought the car as a bare chassis custom built for us from Ken's Kustom Chassis...
On another note, I was able to confirm that the previous best 4 cylinder average for a drag and drive event was 9.37 by a turbo 4 cylinder Mustang. That means my 9.23 average at Sick Week is now the quickest 4 cylinder average at a drag and drive event! ... for now.
8.79 at 156 mph!Still 100% street trim. I literally only changed the oil since Sick Week. And I won Import Face Off's Forced Induction Pro class at Cecil yesterday!
I figure I should share an update on my other projects too. The dragster is close to ready to go out with a whole host of changes. We have 2 billet blocks for it, some new transmission goodies and a couple turbos to try out. I'm excited to get back out in this thing once the weather breaks...
Wheel hop and solid diff cover mounting bushings are what will break them. I think you could break it going 14's under the wrong conditions or easily go 9's or maybe even 8's under the right conditions. A solid front mount will help some and a second solid front mount will help a ton.The...
The 76mm SX-E is a pretty impressive turbo. I assume T4 with the 87mm turbine wheel? I went 6.52 at 206 MPH on that turbo in the dragster. That equates in that car to somewhere between 1400 and 1500hp and that was done at under 60 PSI. I think I could push it further still, but I started...
My youtube is drivengsx. I post a lot more to my instagram though which is @tony_turbo4 I keep meaning to get back to posting on youtube but it never makes it to the top of my priority list.I've had two different turbos on the car this past year. For Drag Week and that 8.96 pass, I was...
Another action shot from Bradenton FloridaAs soon as I saw Sick the mag post these trophies I wanted one but I wasn't sure I'd have enough to get one.Hell yeah! One of the coolest trophies ever - such an honor to have it in my house
Jeff Oppenheim - one of the legends of drag and drive events in his traditional pose - Somewhere in MichiganHistoric Woodward Ave!Me and my dadThe short time I was out on Mountain Dew captured in a pic! hahaDragweek day 1 carnage - huge thanks to TRE for building and delivering a new...
Man, do I suck at updating this thread. Soooo much has happened, thanks to everyone who follows me on FB or IG, I do slightly better at updating those platforms but this one is obviously better for tracking stuff and details. In an effort to get things updated here quickly, I'm going to try...
Okay, I finally have conclusive evidence as to what the issue with my transmission is and I should be back up and running soon. I'm going to refrain from any more details until I can speak with the part manufacturer and work out repairs.
Pulled the transmission out last night and I believe I found the issue but I need to take some measurements before I can be sure (can't get calipers where I need to without pulling some more stuff apart). The issue isn't what I originally thought which is why I didn't post my theories to begin...
I'm not sure that could be it. If it was a fluid path that was leaking I think one of the pressure readings would be wrong/low. Also, the input shaft should spin in neutral with just fluid going to the torque converter, which I've confirmed it is. I'm hoping to have it out tonight and maybe...
I saw that. I'd love to go but I'm not quite ready to make that tow to the start of the event.Sure. So I will need to do some other updates in the future as to how I got here but just to fast forward. The car went 134mph on its first full pass just rolling off the line (it took 5.99...
It's an any ECU concern. Anyone setting up any aftermarket ECU in any car needs to be conscious of trigger edges. They also apply to cam sensors, crank sensors and ignition outputs, although I think only the ignition output one would cause what I did.
You can be sure of that! In reality, it was mostly just due to rushing. Sure, I might have made the mistake in initial setup, but a normal test I do on any car is verify timing drift with RPM. When I got the car running the day before the event and still had sooo many loose ends to tie up...
Okay, I really suck at updating this thread, I need Chris to keep on my case about it. :)As I mentioned quite a bit earlier in this thread, DragWeek 2019 didn't go as planned and I blew the head gasket and melted the head. At the time I thought the cause of the failure was that I didn't...
On my 2G I don't montior water pressure. It's something I want to add but ran out of time and sensors. This is really good data. This was with no holes in the thermostat? I think I'll remove the thermostat for good measure going forward based on this data. Since it's primarily a race car...
I'm nearing the end of the build here, I think there are only a couple things left to show. I have the exterior stuff like the rear lexan, sunroof plug installation and parachute mount to do. Then I'll spam everyone with pics of the completed car.Are there other things people want to see...
I drilled several holes in my thermostat to get around this. I was worried about it also, good observation. :)They are color coded, which does help. You start to remember what color each size is and its quicker to grab those than anything else IMO.Also, I've had several of the...
I was referring to the hose itself but I stick with black aluminum fittings for all the main stuff for both weight and aesthetics. I keep a set of AN wrenches close by to keep the fittings looking good. I don't think it's any harder to use the AN wrenches than finding the correct size...
Let’s go over some of the plumbing. This post will cover just a high-level look at several different things. Post up what you want to see more detail about and I’ll do my best to cover it.First, I’ll start with intercooler piping. I have a 5” thick ETS intercooler with 3” lower piping and...
Thanks guys! You were a huge help! Thanks for the kind words. I’m a big fan of doing things the right way. This is by no means the be all end all build on the car but I’m going all in on this mission.
If you were following along closely, you read where I put the engine in the car with the dogbox because I was waiting on some parts to finish up my auto trans.Well now its time to put the auto in. Like everything in this build, the auto trans snowballed way beyond what I originally was going...
They custom made the housing for me since I already had the header, I don’t believe they’ll be offering it as an option though. I will say that it was challenging to get it all together due to the compact nature of the Xona Rotor and the bulkiness of that housing. It would have been much simpler...
I think most of this has been answered now but I’ll reiterate. Morrison Fab bought shearers jugs to make his manifolds and they’ve since developed a lot of their own products. They have kept up and improved the quality that Shearer brought to DSM’s and they’re really easy to work with. It was a...
