center diff could be worn out or the gears are cracked. www.vfaq.com has a decent center diff write up. Put the car on jackstands, put it in gear and see if you can spin the rear wheels. If its really notchy and hard to turn then your problem is probably in the rear end. Same with the front end...

seems odd, only thing that could be aproblem is the bump stops adjusted incorrectly. If anything a regular size shifter would probably have more weare or damage on the tranny becasue you have more levrage to rip the shifter.

had it on jackastands today. It struggled to spin the wheels forward but at least it spun them. It was fine in reverse. Front spins freely, the rear is a hard to spin but not impossible to spin by hand. Did not hear any clicks. Car still wont go forward when onthe ground. help please!!

you have to realize that since these cars are awd, they act like a rwd car in the snow becasue the back end wants to swing them around. AWD is NOT going to keep you on the road. AWD is ONLY to get you going and out of snowbanks (limited on your ground clearence also) FWD is the best possible...
