After doing some research and seeing what would work, I enlisted our metal shop to manufacture a 1G BOV to 2G adapter. It came out pretty nice so I thought I would share some pics. My talon should be finished up this weekend and I'll have to get the title moved from a salvage to an R but that...
I'm sure it is possible. I hate to state the obvious but you are in for a ton of work, time and money. A quick google shows a few people talking about it but noone accomplishing it. I personally always thought an AWD mustang would be neat. Unfortunately, I have a 1974 FJ40 I need to finish...
Check your local autoparts store. These are definitely not a plain bolt and I believe the are grade 8 on top of that. Here is a link to some however you will need to put your information in to get the appropriate set. They are slightly different from front to rear and also dependent on your...
A small amount of oil on the intake side is common (lets call it a film of oil) and can be fixed by installing a catch can. Side to side play on your impeller shaft is also common as long as it is not drastic. If the impeller is sliding in and out, that is a sign of short life-span.I...
I hate to even suggest it but I always resort to vice grips when I have a problem. I'd use PB Blast instead of wd-40. It seems to work a bit better. They also make some torx type sockets but I doubt you have them or you would have used them by now. As far as the vice grips go, put them on as...
For safety sake, you should have the proper tools to do the job. Additionally, you will reduce the time it takes by having the spring compressor. You can usually get a hold of them at your local parts store for free rental or a minimal charge. With that in mind, I just did my Talon without...
My lower IC pipe blew off and I found out I wasn't running stock boost. I didn't notice an aftermarket boost gauge in your profile but that would verify your boost level. I was pushing over twenty lbs with my stock turbo because my BCS was hosed. I ended up running the compressor housing...
I have a feeling that I'm going to be doing this before long as I have a whine coming out of the drivers side rear. My castle nut is pretty much un-recognizeable at this point. Not only do I live in the NE corner of Pa, the guy I picked it up from let it sit outside for about a year and a...
I found a quick read for those interested.Scroll down to the "Volts and Amps to Horsepower" section.http://www.dansdata.com/danletters105.htmI think that this would still make a fun project however there are some considerations. As stated in most threads and articles, it is...
This is the only part of the schematic you need to worry about. If you go back to that page, you can see the values for each and you should be able to build it in a half-hour or hour at best. Radio Shack carries all of those components and additionally, if you have a friend handy with...
Electric motors spin fast enough. Look at a dremel, they spin 50K RPMs (granted its AC) and if you couple that with a 1:2 gear/pulley ratio, you have 100K RPMs. I would imagine the manf. of that unit compensated for the direct drive by using a more aggressive blade angle to increase the flow...
I picked up the hobby of working on PC's when I was in college. After working within my major for a year and a half (electro-mech eng.), I was able to move into an IT dept. Additionally, I started a webhosting company with a friend, another corporation doing all aspects of computer setup and...
Recommended that you either remove the MBC and run a line from the housing to the WG (if you set it up that way) or adjust your MBC to max pressure so it won't leak.Additionally, you should only apply the amount of pressure you typically run or a few pounds over.Tripper
I built my own block off plate and kept everything in tact. I have no CEL and it did fix my rough idle.A new gasket is about $1.50 although you can reuse the old one if you put a light coat of high temp RTV on it. Additionally, if you know its built up with carbon, why don't you try...
I'm not sure how electronically inclined you are but here is a link for a solar powered LED flashlight based on 12V. You should be able to build just the LED portion and mount it wherever you deem necessary. LED's throw off some nice light and use very little current not to mention you can...
Not so fast, April/May 1992 was the changeover according to the VFAQ. I'd check the oil pan especially in this case. Here is a quick quote and the link:http://www.vfaq.com/mods/early-late-engine.htmlTripper
Here ya go:http://www.vfaq.comOnce you are there, check out the DSM link and then the engine link. You will see a page for 1G timing adjust. Here is a shortcut but if you haven't become familiar with VFAQ, take some time and read through the pages...
I didn't see this in the forums so I thought I would ask. I was eyeballing the DSMLink and was curious. I have a 95 Talon that was manufactured in July of 1994. I'm fairly sure it has the EEPROM ECU although I haven't visually verified it. My question is this. What have you guys done when...
These units seem to catch a lot of flak and I'm not so sure it is deserving. I realize there is a large group of individuals whom desire the $1400.00 suspension kits which are adjustable 7 ways to Sunday, however, if you are looking for something to replace your stock setup with a bit more...
Not to get too far off topic however you are correct in that Platinum is not "as good" as copper or silver. The electrical reisistivity of platinum is 10.6 whereas copper is 1.7 and silver is 1.6. (unit value is 10^(-8) Ω m). The benefit to a platinum plug is actually that it breaks...
Thanks for the help. I was hesitant to put the RTV on but I'll work on that. I did leave the EGR on and hooked up to the vac lines. I think I'll be installing some GR2's this weekend so maybe I can squeeze the RTV routine in as well. Thanks again.Tripper
1. PVC is just in far enough to get the clamp on tight.
2. Yes, the valve stem is the same thing on your tires. NAPA has them and I believe the hole is 5/8". You can have them mic it out at NAPA when you purchase it.
3. Yes, that is correct.
4. The car is not on. I set my pressure on...
You don't sound like an idiot but perhaps I might. I didn't remove any of the hoses so no, I didn't cap anything off. As I said before, I didn't use any gasket maker or the like so my plan is to pull the block off plate and put a new gasket in. Do you think capping would help? Thanks for the...
We hooked up a snap-on scan tool but there aren't any errors showing and no CEL. Does autozone use a scan tool or a diagnostic tool? The guy up the road has some $10K unit that supposedly tells you how much air pressure is in the tires (just kidding of course but it is very in depth). Anyway...
I'm not real sure what you are getting at here besides stating the obvious. Your post is all zen-like and while I appreciate the effort, it has absolutely nothing in the way of advice for helping my issue. Additionally, there are no epa tests for my area.Tripper
I found everything except the PVC at Napa when I put my leak tester together. If you print the page out from VFAQ and take it with you the guys behind the counter can usually piece everything together.I had a leak at my TB shaft, the BISS screw and the solenoid closest to the TB on the...
I think I read of someone using those caps before but I have a 2 and a 5 year old running around so the protection from jagged metal comes in handy. I'll swing by Napa today and see what I can dig up. I'm hoping they have some Sea Foam as well. I have to admit, the car isn't as fun as it was...
Ironically, I found some info from oldman stating the reasons to use the housing vs. the BOV so I edited my post and pulled that question. Thanks for the parts help.Tripper
Thanks again for the help. I'm thinking about building my own MBC. I have access to our metal shop at work so it should be pretty straight forward.TripperOh yeah, where do you get vacuum caps? Thanks again.
I used a worm gear clamp and pinched off the tube from the "T" fitting to the BCS. I am now maxing out at 14 and then it drops to around 10. I do know of a little boost leak around the TB shaft but other than that, everything was pretty sealed up. Correct me if I'm wrong but I should be able...
I did a vac leak test a few weeks back so I should be good to go. I'm going to block off the BCS side of the "T" and see what that does. By all things holy, the WGA should open at 11 or so PSI from what I understand. I'll post later this evening with my results.Tripper
I've put about 150 miles on it and so far no issues. Not that I want to invite any additional problems. I'll follow what zippyshoe wrote and see if its the BCS or the wastegate actuator. Thanks again for the input.Tripper
I took some video of the car idling today. Check it out and see if anything rings a bell with you guys. At this point, I may just pay to hook it to the diagnostic machine at a local shop. It seems to run great but I'm perplexed about this whole idle issue...
I found the BCS but I haven't had a chance to play with it yet. I did manage to take some quick video of my boost gauge and also of the engine idling.http://www.madtripper.com/albums/Rebuild/talon_boost.wmvhttp://www.madtripper.com/albums/Rebuild/talon_idle.wmvTripper
Well this could explain some things since that is the side that was crushed by the deer. I'll have to investigate after work and thanks for the help. Real quick, would the solenoid I described above be the EGR solenoid? I have another post where I added a block off plate but I also noticed a...
I hate to be ignorant but where do I find the boost solenoid? Is it mounted by the firewall to the left of the fuel pressure solenoid? Let me know when you get a chance.Tripper
It hits 20 and then drops off to about 15 or so. I'll try and shoot some video of it this week. No boost controller and the only leak I was able to find is on the TB shaft. Also, I verified the gauge works during my boost leak test.Tripper
