Hey guys, just got my car together with new cams and gears and I didn't see anything with the new cams about a break in period. Anyone have any thoughts on a break in period when just cams were installed? I've always tried to go about 500-700 miles on a new engine to break it in, but never...
To get to the door lock relays you have to take out the center console between the seats, then the radio. The door lock relay is all the way in the back under the climate control. There are two relays total in there, and I believe the one you need is the smaller one on the far right. You should...
Also check out the ground strap coming from the firewall. Had a similiar problem with another car when my ground strap broke. Everything ignition and computer related was dead, but the car would crank and lights and stuff would work.
Hope this helps.
I just had a problem with something similiar to this after doing my front brakes. When I replaced the pads I damaged the pad clip a little and I kept getting a squeak/harmonic from the front when I was coasting or downshifting.
Maybe totally wrong but check it out, really annoyed me like crazy...
I would agree with dr1665, it really sounds like a timing problem and not a head gasket. Usually a head gasket means white smoke or white oil, not a total loss of compression.
When I broke my timing belt and then replaced my cams & gears I had a problem getting my timing marks lined up 100%...
I've checked into smaller ones, but the sensors at Advance, Autozone, NAPA, Mitsu dealer, and Carquest are all this size. I had the old one with me at the time and they were all pretty much the same. If you know of a smaller one that I could get away with using I would appreciate it.
Thanks.
Yes, all my mounts are still there and they are tight. I actually have a few years experience doing this kind of thing.
Here are some photos just in case you think I may be trying to slam a company for absolutely no reason.
The cracks in the shroud are from the O2 sensor.
If anyone needs...
Stay away from Pacesetter, they put the O2 sensor in the wrong place and everytime you take off the engine rocks up and shoves the sensor into the AC fan. If you don't use AC or the defrost ever then you might not have any problems, it'll just bust up the fan shroud.
Mine also is rusted out a...
Good idea taking the engine out. When I was about halfway through it I thought about doing the same thing. It would have made timing the engine a lot easier out of the car. Also, if you get Fidanzo gears the timing marks are off on the gears, and the Pacesetter header will work, but it will rub...
First answer. Dynamite... and plenty of it :D Not that I had a bad experience or anything...
Second answer. Pull the valve cover, take of the radiator reservoir, power steering pump, loosen the alternator and remove the belt, the thermostat housing (optional on that one, I didn't want it to...
Not only that, but I know of a couple of people that refused to use NO2 because they thought it would explode... They didn't quite understand that it wasn't flammable and would fight tooth and nail trying to prove their point.
I had a Celica GT that used almost exactly 1 quart every thousand miles. The problem with mine was that a spark plug actually shattered in the engine. The previous owner used cheap plugs instead of OEM and caused the plug to shatter when I was getting on the freeway one day. The debris really...
Guess I'm just kinda lucky, there are only a couple of guys around here with imports that are all show and absolutely no go. There are a few really respectable one that I can think of off the top of my head. One is a guy with a CRX with a H22A, he can go like a bat out of hell in a straight...
I actually found this... seemed interesting to me. The only thing that doesn't sit right with me is that they must of custom made a throttle cable for it, it's not going through an air filter (at least not in the pic), and the battery has been relocated. Other than that they claim 225+HP @5.5psi...
If this is in Ohio I'll show up for it. I know of a couple decent places in the central Ohio (Columbus) area that would be pretty cool. Kirkersville is pretty neat, it's out of the city and there's plenty of open country around it too ;) Would really like to see how my car compares with a...
To be 100% honest, I don't notice much of a difference, but then again, my car was in pieces for 2 months too and I haven't messed with valve timing at all. When it first went back together I thought it was a little slower. I also had a Check Engine light that stayed on for about 2 days (code 43...
I had the same problem with mine, and I actually made my little 3 jaw after my big one wouldn't fit into the holes. And try not to laugh too hard, I'm not saying this will work on your car, you might screw it up, but I got mine out using a modified 6 inch 3/8 extension. I basically rounded off...
Thanks for the input... it seems that the old ways of working on V8's and today's cars aren't totally lost :) When I started the car I kept the idle up a bit without revving too high, and tried not to keep it in the same spot for more than a couple of seconds. I was just curious if there was...

Ok, the timing marks that I talked about are off. If you buy Fidanza cam gears and the marks are on the teeth instead of between them, the correct timing will be - marks aligned, cam 1/2 tooth past TDC on the crank. This will make the cams look out when the crank is on TDC, but it should be...
Hey guys, just putting everything back together and I've had my belt on and off about 10-12 times now. For some reason the timing marks on the cams line up perfectly, but the mark on the crank is about one half tooth off either before or after TDC. If I set the crank @TDC the marks are a little...
Since I have my head off of my car I went ahead and started replacing internals before the basics. It'll just have cams, gears, and a header when I finish it up next week. Thinking about seeing if my neighbor willl go with me to the track and try to see if I can get any respectable numbers with...
I've thought about this one a bit too, and it really doesn't make sense to me. If you are using incoming air to spin a device, that device won't be able to produce more flow than what is used to spin it.
Now if they made some kind of turbine that spun externally that drove another turbine...
The AEM bypass works, when I was shopping around for one for my Prelude I saw a photo of the owner's NSX with a pipe coming from his intake to a tank of water, totally submerged. He held it at WOT for a bit and no water got sucked up at all. Check it out...
Hey guys, I had a quick question while we're on this topic. I'm fairly used to working with V8's and this is my first 4 cyl. that I've really done any work on. I had a question about header leaks. I know that with most V8's you really have to check the bolts and gaskets fairly often so you...
Thanks for all the input guys, and to be perfectly honest I really have no intention of boosting or spraying at all. Probably until I sell it, this is my "economy" car and right now I'm just trying to sneak in as many things as I can under the radar since I warned my girl that this would get...
Great, I'm just hoping that this won't be a waste of money, I'm not going for "fastest n/t" or anything, just a little fun.
Would you think that anything above Crower Stage 2 or Crane 12's would be too much for a non ported intake? Or just stick with the stage 1/10's?
There seems to be quite...
Hey guys, I've done a little searching and haven't come up with anything substantial yet, so I figured I would just post a new thread. Last week I lost my timing belt and went ahead and took off my head to check out the damage. The good news was I don't have any (really couldn't believe it with...
