I just deleted both of mine because I literally was having problems with about 5 different ISC's. The car is a pain in the ass to keep running, until it's at normal operating temp. You can delete both without having a way to tune the car. You're going to have to rely on the set screw to moderate...
I searched and couldnt find this answer.I have a lead on a 4 bolt rear, the owner of the rear doesnt know if he has one part for the swap...but he does have the diff, cups, axles. The part he is not sure of is this;My question is, is this part the same between the 4 and 3 bolt...
My car maybe gets 1000 miles a year put on it. It got less than 200 this year. I don't care about cold startup issues. I just want to eliminate as many un-needed sensors and plugs as possible. The less there is on the car, the less there is to troubleshoot and wait for failure with. I'll keep...
The dash harness is not necessary to do the swap. You need to get a factory service manual. You can find them on ebay sometimes pretty cheap. Or, they are located here; http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/frequently-answered-dsm-questions/344490-download-1g-service-manuals.html You'll find all...
I have about 8 different guys that I know of that are selling 1990 harnesses. I just replaced mine. I'll PM you the names of the people who have harnesses. There's also one guy I contacted on craigslist who has one.Changing harnesses is kind of a pain. Not the worst thing I've done on a...
FYI. I swapped harnesses and that fixed the problem. I do not know where the actual issue was in my old harness, but now with it out I'm going to take it apart and replace all the wiring and remove what I don't need.Only problem the car has now is a high idle. I'm junking the 90 throttle...
If that's looking at the ECU, then I need to be looking at and testing the harness like;
------------------------TOP--------------------------12--11--10--09--08--07--06--05--04--03--02--0124--23--22--21--20--19--18--17--16--15--14--13
Forgive my ignorance, but I did all the testing last night and my results are so far off from what they should be that it lead me to think whether or not the pinout image I was looking at is for the actual ECU pinouts or what the pins are on the harness. Is this looking at the ECU, or the...
Well, you're right...but I'm having difficulties in knowing that I'm checking the right pin # at the ECU. I also was not seeing 5v on the red/green wire like I should have been. I was getting so frustrated doing the tests that my notes are garbage. I'll do the tests again tonight and try to get...
After doing some testing I am pretty positive the harness is messed up. I'm too lazy to trace it all, so I'm going to just replace the harness. Once the old harness is out of the car I should have my full 1990 service manual, so I'll do some tracing and figure out what's wrong with it. If the...
I visually inspected the TPS, yes...but more importantly, I ohm tested the TPS and it checks out just fine.My problem resides in my wiring harness, or the ECU...and since it's a a re-worked ECU from the guys at DSMLink, I'm doubting the ECU is faulty. That's why I'm wanting to test the...
Yes, I've watched it live in DSMLink and it registers at 0 all the time.I was tired last night and had a lot more information to include, but couldnt put it into words cause of how tired I was. Tonight I'm going to do some more testing and hopefully it's a bit more conclusive. I'll keep this...
First off, the car is a 1990 model.Getting code 0014. I tested the TPS and it's within spec. The closed throttle switch works. Now I'm getting into the wiring harness and it's really frustrating me. There are 4 pins and wires going to the connector.1 2

Couldnt find a 90 ECU locally, so I just swapped pins 6 & 14, then put a known good 91+ ecu in. Car started up and runs great again. The tach is screwy, but I'm going to buy one of those boards from DSMChips and install it to fix that issue. It's good to have this car on the road again!
After we did the above test we hooked everything back up to see if we were actually getting spark out of the coil pack. We unplugged all the plug wires and just put a piece of thick copper wire into the coil pack on both 4/1 and 2/3, we just held the wire close to a ground, cranked to see if we...
So I am on my buddies account... We grounded out plug 1 and plug 6 and then simply shoved a copper wire into the coil pack to eliminate the plug wires. One in inside the coil pack and the other side to ground on the car. I didn't get any spark. I did this with all 4 banks while grounding out...
I saw that, but it doesnt really answer my question as it seems to refer to the Haynes methods and don't really address testing the primary coil.I have searched for the answer, but couldnt find it in any old threads as the question is asked...but never a solution posted.Got this figured...
Trying to measure resistance through the plug for the primary coil on my 1990 GSX. The illustration that I have shows 3 prongs, where as my 1990 has 4 prongs. What is the proper way to test the primary coil on this coil pack? Here is the only illustration that I've been able to find.
You want to mount that sensor as far forward as possible, do it before the flex section. Also, do not mount that sensor between the 5pm and 7 pm locations. As for the control unit, zip tie it wherever you want.
Excuses excuses. lol. JK. It's no worry. I needed to fire my car up and drive it a bit. It was feeling neglected.Summer meets are much better. Hangin out outside when coats and bs arent needed, with hoods popped, etc is much better than going inside somewhere to BS.
Good job y'all on showin' up! NOT. I met John there and that was it. What's up with the rest of you posers sayiin you'll make it then not showing?? This is the reason why no meets are ever planned...
I too only fill at Chevron stations. I run the FIC ball/disc type injectors and unless I run Chevron gas the injectors like to act up. I run chevron injector cleaner every few tanks of gas as well. We sure do have some shitty gas up here.
You can buy 104 and 115 (i believe) at the Tesoro on Muldoon. I do not think that they sell it during the winter though. During the summer that's always where I fill up on race gas before heading to the track. I tune on my way out to the track and by the time I get out there I am sitting at my...
You're a moron.OP, YES, a catch can between the nipple on the valve cover, also called a valve cover breather, and the intake pipe nipple will help to reduce oil in your intercooler piping. You should really look into the can that JCS Automations sells. It's a coalescing filter catch can...
We just steam cleaned my buddies STi in my garage the other day. Took two days just to dry out. Winter is not friendly to steam cleaning carpets. Even with fans on the carpet, heat in the garage all the way up, and some heat lamps it took forever to dry. Meh. Anyway, with that being said...I...
You're nuts! lol. I guess I just hate crusin the highway more than I have to in the winter. I only get on the highway between Dimond and De'Armoun to do some logs every once in a while.
that thing isnt really worth $50. The only thing worth money on it is the block, springs, and 3 of the rims. The shell is trash, the interior is trash, there's no tranny, and no head. He's seperated or sold all of the accessories. So, you're buying a pile of sh*t that you will have to pay to...
I'm good to do a meet within the next couple weeks any night really. My gf is working and I'll be lookin for something to fill some time up. If not that soon, then I'm down for really any night, though Fridays and Saturdays it'd have to be earlier...like from 5-9 or so, cause after that I...
I was 17. It started with as a 1987 Camaro Iroc-Z with a 305. I swapped to a 350 after I spun a rod bearing in the 305. Then stroked the 350 to a 383. Then ProCharged the 383. The rest of the car got built...tranny, rear, etc...and then it's best dyno was 738 RWHP/804 RWTQ.
Hey, if you guys want that sticker made, go to JNS is the fifth ave mall. They'll hook ya up.It was for sure thawing outside today. The roads were wet and I fnally got out to the highway to do some tuning without worries of hitting ice.
If you have high performance summer tires on your ride instead of all seasons, you have to change out for winter tires. I drive a GSX and I can't make it out of my driveway on my summer tires/rims. I have to switch over to my ghetto stock 1Ga rims and studded snow tires to get any traction. Even...
Have you checked the actual clutch pedal assembly yet?? They wear and eventually need to be replaced or you need to move the pedal to it's foreward most movement and weld the rod to the nut on the end to get rid of the "play".I had problems with my car like this once. My fix was shimming a...
You need a laptop or a palm pilot, logger software, and a cable to connect the computer to your OBD1 port on the car. I have a full setup with PocketLogger on it that I'll sell. PM me for details.
Sounds like a bad CAS. They are hard to come by, they don't really go bad in my experience...but anything can happen. You sure you did the wiring right?
It took me 6 months to do a HG change. I was just too busy riding my motorcycle and enjoying the summer weather to spend time in the garage. I also had my Lightning to drive, and that truck is 10x more fun to drive in the summer than a DSM.
Money is no issue for me, but saving money never hurts...and I've done rebuilds in my own garage.Whoever said you "have to have" a bore done, youre wrong. If your walls are in check and round, not oval, just line hone that block and call it good.It would be best to micropolish the...
Boosting to spike past 20psi?I LOL'd at 20psi on my Evo III 16G. I ran 28 PSI on that turbo for at least two years. Way over it's efficiency range, but I ran 11.79's on boost only! lol. It did eventually give up the ghost though, blew the seals right out of it. I think that was from running...
