Hey guys, anyone got a wire diagram for the 1g fuel injection system? I've got a 91 gs (now a gst, but cheaper on insurance) 5 speed that isn't firing #2 injector. swapped the injector with another in my GVR4 and it worked fine in the GVR4, but nothing when installed in the GS. It IS getting...
Just a side note, the evo VIII head bolts right onto a newer 2.4 liter block..all you need to do is transfer the oil squirters..everything pretty much bolts right back up. I have a bud in phoenix who is building those motors right and left..He says it's easy money...and a lot more grunt.
Dave
You might have that litte shield that goes between the balance shaft belt/sprocket and the outer one for the timing belt on backwards...if it is, you'll be off on the inside mark, which will throw the outside mark off. Also, if that shield is backwards, it will chew the timing belt up pretty...
I'd use an AIC and two additional injectors plumbed to a 1 gallon fuel cell with race gas for starting. I had to do this with my bbc drag car due to washdown. I have pics of the adapter plate. It installs forward of the tb between the tb and the elbow. This allows better tuning as you don't...
Look around for a 1994 and up thunderbird rear end. It is the same IRS system they decided to make a big deal about when they put it on the mustang cobra years later. It takes some hellish mods, and custom axles, hubs, etc, but it is probably the strongest rear end out there that is affordable...
A note on the water injection. Ever had a bad head gasket? Ever have a problem finding which cylinder(s) were leaking? Water steam cleans the combustion chamber. If I am showing a ton of knock on the data logger, I go off to a local hospital and scam a couple of empty saline IV bags, and the...
You guys are brave! I don't think that I would want nitrous spraying on an fmic, going thru my radiator right over my red hot turbo. I can see the C02 setup, but nitrous is way expensive to refill compared to C02, and safer. I just don't like the idea of an oxidizer flowing freely over the...
Have him check the thickness of the bushing in the eagle rods. Mine were exactly 1mm thick. Hence, removing the bushing made for a perfect press fit. Just depends on what you want to do. Might be his machinist isn't familiar with the 4G63, which is a bad thing...
Personally, I go with around 12 to 16 thousandths, depending on what mods are on the motor. 12 for a relatively stock motor, and 16 being nitrous/big turbo or both. I'd rather blow a little oil at high boost than score a cylinder wall or sieze a piston.
I checked 3 different manuals, and for 1990, they list the same lift and duration for all the cams, whether n/t, a/t or manual. No difference. Actually, you might find that the n/t cams in later years have more duration and lift, but I am not sure, since my books only go up to 92. You could...
If you are looking for a set of wiseco .020 over 4g63 pistons, I have a brand new unused set with pins and rings for $375 plus shipping. Do a post search in the "for sale" stuff. I went a different route on my 1g and don't need them any more. They were a custom order from aem, as you will see...
You are correct on the thrust part, but the 4G61 didn't use balance shafts, and would run past 100,000 miles on the stub shaft from mitsu. Every single one of the "balance shaft eliminator kits" uses the 4G61 stub shaft. Some folks cut a groove on a lathe to ensure oil gets to the bearing...
If the timing belt stripped, you are in for a cylinder head replacement. The balance shaft bearings are actually 2 piece bearings, although you can't see the parting line. The bearing did sieze, and it was spun out of the bore. You probably have a ton of engine damage so you might as well...
OK GUYS! I finally got the damned thing off. I pulled the bolts on ALL the motor mounts, and with some trepidition, started jacking until the bare block was sticking out over the fenders, and it gave me just enough clearance that with two wobblies and a glove to stabilize them, I got it spun...
Spoolin! THanks for that part #. I think it will come in handy anyways. I think I'm also going to get the socket that pulls the balance shaft bolt cover off the other side as well. Trying to hit it with a screwdriver on the edge of the slots is well, kinda backyard anyways.Only thing I...
Drivers side upper mount is off already. didn't drop enough to drop it below the frame rail so I can get to it. If I can get it down that far, I could hit it with my 1/2 inch impact, which should be able to get it off. However, I'm not too happy with the idea of having to take the suspension...
Guys, have you ever looked at that bolt while the motor is in the car? It's blocked by the body frame rail. I have a big assed 2 stage compressor and more air tools than a man should be able to find. However, it is too high up to hit it with an impact, and even if I could, I would just be...
Ok, I'm going to get some flack for this, but I have seen mitsu line mechanics drop the crank while the motor is in the car. I don't recommend this though. Pull the motor, get a crank and a new piston/rings/rod, and replace them. Btw, 5 star, I wouldn't buy a lawn mower engine from...
sounds like he hit a river, not a puddle. I would call the insurance company and hit them with the cost of a new motor if it has full coverage. It was a collision with water after all, and should be covered under comprehensive, just like if you hit a deer. Try that! (oh, and with state farm...
Ok guys, I'm in a bind here. I have a 1990 gsx that ate the step on the oil pump pulley, trashed the front cover due to the wobble, and sprayed oil all over the belt, trashing it and the head. I have to change the cover IN THE CAR! No other options, as the seals on my cherry picker died while...
Sounds like my wife. I could drive a car for 5 years, she gets into it and drives it and everything falls apart. She is a plague. She broke both door handles off my 90 gsx in below zero weather, while the engine was running, at the post office! Meanwhile, I'm 40 miles away at work... Guess...
That's the problem, when I said identical, it's identical, TPS and closed throttle position sensor are wired together with the same plug as my 60mm off my awd. TPS part # on my 60mm is 90-EWT-H8E, and the unidentified one is 89-EWT-H8E, but is has a kind of ghosted 6 07 to the right of the 89...
OK guys, here's the scoop. Drew and I were sniffing around the shop yesterday and found a strange throttle body. It is exactly like a 1990 turbo throttle body, except that instead of a bolt on intake elbow, has a straight inlet cast into the body. No bolt on anything in front, and it looks to...
I think this guy is a fast and furious addict. True DSMers pride themselves on being open about their setups. You can have 2 identically prepared cars, and one will beat the other, consistently. I haven't heard anyone mention DRIVING SKILLS at all. Not to bash the dragsters, but a true test...
Also, believe it or not, but the 1.6 liter DOHC turbo Mitsubishi motor in the dodge colt and the mirage uses the same head as the 2.0. I am running a 1.6 head on my 90 gsx right now, and I compared the ports with my 2-liter head and they were exactly the same. Swap the cams, it takes 15...
That beats my old 2g talon tsi awd. It went bang at 6800 rpm. when I pulled the head, all the pistons were there. The motor was semi-locked, but would rotate about 20 degrees or so. Funny thing, only 3 of the pistons would move! #3 rod had snapped in half in the middle, broke the cylinder...
Well, if I remember correctly, the toyota has an air to water intercooler, so it really doesn't matter where you put it, although on top of the motor probably isn't the greatest place for it. Parts are a pain though. The toys eat front axles, the tranny's aren't much stronger than ours (dsm)...
Remember guys, there were TWO different LT1 V8's out there. The first LT-1 350 was a solid lifter carburated v8. Check around in the old corvette literature. I believe it was an option in the vette's around 1968 thru 1973. I had a 1970 LT-1 vette convertible many years ago. Mean motor, but...
That's about average, and you can't be sure that your ohmmeter is calibrated correctly either. Actually though, I thought there was a variance in resistance between the steps...I remember seeing something in the vfaq that had the listings for acceptable resistance...ah damn, it was voltage i...
The wires in the injector plug in are subjected to intense heat and have caused some brands of cars (like my old 280Z) fits. Wiggle the wire harness above each injector plug in while the car is running. (don't bend the wires more than about 30 degrees or so). You might find the cause if it...
Get under the car, and put a big pry bar under the crank balancer and try to shove the crank forwards. Then use something else to shove the crank back towards the clutch. If there is noticable movement, you just might be another crankwalk victim
Check the base circle of the cams as well. I have seen a few HKS Cams that a couple of lobes were not cut to spec, and the hydraulic lifter was actually maxed out and still not taking up the slack between the cam and the follower. Also, could have been that a couple of lifters collapsed or...
I wound up putting stainless steel locknuts under the bolts (and 1 nut) and torqued the bolts and nut to about 10 pounds over max when the turbo was cold. I would be wary of using loctite red on something that gets that hot. I have seen female side threads come out of a turbo because of that...
Well, for one, you screwed up by hacksawing the ball joint off. (I realize that you probably didn't anticipate this problem though and after hacksawing a ball joint stud in half, which is case hardened steel, my arm would be so damned tired I would be having a beer anyways)
Heat the spindle up...
Damn, too bad they didn't have that as an option for the T/E/L as well..sure would make that ACT 2900 be a bit easier on the old left knee when yer stuck in traffic.
Actually, why are you replacing it? If it just has a hole in it, cut the line, and splice in a piece of silicon vacuum line or...
You're gonna laugh, but go to a gun shop and get some rifle bore cleaner. It will pretty much get rid of any carbon tracking, as it can pull burnt carbon from gunpowder that is hard as a rock out of a rifle barrel, then get a "Q" tip with some 1000 grit sandpaper wrapped around it and clean off...
Something tells me he should say how many miles are on the motor, and that he already pulled the upper timing belt cover and pulled the belt out by hand......
hmmm, if he has an unlimited budget, Raillart has a Rallye spec 6 speed sequential dogbox for the measly sum of 20 grand ....and change for the clutch and flywheel, but on the other hand, what buscher used to spend on trannys during the race season when he was first starting out probably...
18-22 MPG, but I run between 90 and 120 mph for 9 out of the 33 miles I drive to work each way. Nice brand new 2 lane deserted concrete highway winding thru the bluffs...awesome drive. However, I get maybe 24 putting it on the highway, but I still have a stock exhaust and cat till I get the...
TMO pretty much only helps out those that bought the ecu directly from them. If you did purchase it from them, they should do it for you. If you didn't, you got what you paid for; a part with no tech support. If you did buy it from TMO directly, tell them that you need the part, you are...
You could squeeze a bit more boost out of 9:1 using a water/alcohol mix injection system, but overall, if ya want to have fun on the street and not be mortgaging your house for a race gas delivery system under your garage floor, 9:1 is a bit much. However, with water wetter, moderate boost, and...
And I paid 1100 for my white gsx out of a junkyard with a thrown tbelt. Hell, for that money, I'll buy it for parts, my white one just shelled the step on the oil pump pulley, spun the nut off, and grenaded the motor. GIMMIE THAT PHONE #!!!!
The 7-bolt has a complete main girdle, not like the 1g, which has 2 girdles and the center cap. He is correct though. These blocks and girdles are main bored and honed at the factory as a complete, bolted together unit. Test is to put a main bearing set in there and see if everything lines up...
You're trying to put 300 hp thru the stock auto tranny? Methinks you may want to invest in a very stout tranny rebuild from someone who races mitsu automatics (dave buscher may know someone, his brother has used an auto) before you even think about a new turbo. With a higher stall speed...
It is not necessarily caused by running lean. Lots of folks get fuel cut in the midrange (2800-4400 rpm) because the ecu senses that TOO MUCH air is going into the engine for that rpm, load, and throttle position. The ecu intentionally runs the entire powerband rich. But the airflow meter...
Find out what the Salvage title is from (use carfax with the VIN). If it was in a flood or totaled for hail, you might get lucky. Talk to the previous owner (should be on the current title or do a title search) Have the car inspected for damage by the best auto body shop you can find. PAY...
You need to give more information, like will the engine turn over? Does it "try" to start? (meaning it pops and wheezes but just doesn't quite start). Do you have a good spark? (remove a plug wire off a plug, stick a new plug in the wire, lay it on the valve cover, and have someone crank it...
