  1. What boost did your 1g run stock?

This is a question for all 1g owners that installed a boost gauge before a boost controller. Also, please note if you pulled the restrictor out of the boost solenoid. I've heard so many different answers, and I'm interested to see how much variation there really is.
  2. ISC motor rebuild?

Thanks for the responses guys. Sorry if there was any confusion. Yes, I've already tested the coils and one of them is bad. I've already had to swap the ISC for a new one, which has now gone bad. Instead of buying yet another one, I'm going to put my old one and the newer one together...
  3. ISC motor rebuild?

Hello, does anyone have a link to a page that explains how to rebuild an ISC motor? I know you have to solder the bad coils off and the new ones on, but I'd feel better if I had a walkthrough. Also, I was wondering how it is possible to have idle surge with the ISC motor unplugged. I have...
  4. WHY CANT I soften my clutch pedal, increase the play.

^^^Yeah, a leaky slave or master will only cause the clutch to engage closer to the floor, not further away.
  5. Help Removing Tie Rod!!!!!

Sorry if this is threadjacking, but this thread seems pretty much over. Where can you get inner tie-rods from? All I've ever seen for sale is the outers...Thanks!
  6. Stock Boost [Merged 5-7]

I've heard from a bunch of people that autometer gauges are inaccurate. Got any other inexpensive recommendations?
  7. 2G maf on 1G done

That was just a guess. It could be lean or rich, but one thing's for sure, it's not right =)
  8. 2G maf on 1G done

I wouldn't drive that car until getting an AFC and a logger, your A/F ratio won't be right... you're probably running a bit lean at all RPMs. That's a recipe for a new engine.
  9. Stock Boost [Merged 5-7]

This is a question for all 1g owners that installed a boost gauge before a boost controller. Also, please note if you pulled the restrictor out of the boost solenoid. I've heard so many different answers, and I'm interested to see how much variation there really is.
  10. compare these 1g's for purchase

Electrical problems, ECU problems, fuel problems...
  11. Evo VIII Cams in DSM? [Merged 5-9] 8 cam

^^^It depends on where the mirror is, dude.
  12. Huge drivetrain problem

Center differential is fried. Put it on a lift or 4 jackstands and start it up to be sure that only the rear wheels move.
  13. Vacuum at 30.. is that normal?

Having 30in vacuum would probably be a good thing, although its pretty much impossible. See if you can borrow a different guage to test the one you have.
  14. Can low compression cause this?

No- low compression won't cause idle surge or bucking. However, a very large boost leak can. Your compression isn't that bad, really.
  15. Put my car on a lift- found disturbing news

It's completely drained, its all new fluid in there. But I'm positive its got air in it =\
  16. compare these 1g's for purchase

There's about a million causes for misfires. Honestly it seems unlikely that it is a coilpack, as it would probably not work at all, rather than work some of the time. It still doesn't make sense- if it was just a coil pack, wouldn't he fix it so he could get more money out of the car? Does...
  17. Put my car on a lift- found disturbing news

I'm running a ACT2100. It feels a little light than normal for the first 1/2 of the pedal travel, then normal pressure the rest of the way- leading me to believe there's still air in the lines.
  18. compare these 1g's for purchase

One thing I learned- never trust people's "reasons" why stuff doesn't work. If those tranny problems are from linkage needing to be adjusted, why didn't they do it? It takes 10 minutes, seriously. Also, just because an engine or tranny is rebuilt doesn't mean it was rebuilt WELL. Get...
  19. Where to get valve stem?

    I got a two-pack at walmart.
  20. Put my car on a lift- found disturbing news

I think the clutch engages too close to the floor because there is air in the lines. I know the valve will hold when closed, but I'm saying that I can't bleed it properly because of the leaking around the threads. If fluid can come out around the threads, then air can get in when I pull the...
  21. Rear seat belts locked

^^ Yep, they are designed so if the car is on its side, they won't let the seat belt release. I had mine out, and couldn't pull it out. Position them as if they were installed and they will come right out.
  22. Put my car on a lift- found disturbing news

Okay, update. I got the slave and master done without too much of a problem. Thanks for all the help. I didn't remove anything under the dash to get the master out, just pushed the seat back, but then again, I'm pretty thin, and used to getting into tight places. ;)However, I can't...
  23. 2g ss/steelbraided clutch line. I can't find one anywhere?

MachV has them on the front page.
  24. [RESOLVED] Clutch Slave cylinder bleeder valve [ & Speedbleeder]

I'll definetly be buying some vice grips soon. Any particular good brands? I usually buy craftsman because of the warranty.
  25. [RESOLVED] Clutch Slave cylinder bleeder valve [ & Speedbleeder]

Thanks for the quick reply! That socket idea isn't a bad one. But I don't have any vice grips =\ I'm seriously thinking about just getting a speed bleeder and then just closing it with a ratchet when I'm done.I noticed Pep Boys has speed bleeders, or some off brand kind. Maybe those...
  26. [RESOLVED] Clutch Slave cylinder bleeder valve [ & Speedbleeder]

Hello, I replaced my clutch master and slave cylinder with some advice from people on this forum. Now my problem is bleeding the clutch. I have done this on other cars, where the screw is easy to get to. I understand the process completely, that's not my problem. My problem is that I...
  27. Clutch Issue.

^^^^ I agree, most likely slave cylinder or master cylinder or both are leaking. The same exact thing you're describing happened to me a few days ago, and I just got done putting in the slave cylinder, and I'm working on the master cylinder today.
  28. Put my car on a lift- found disturbing news

Thanks for the walkthrough. I'm going to attempt it in about a half hour. Can't you mix DOT3 and DOT4? I already have an unopened container of DOT4, but the slave cylinder and the manual said to use DOT3. Can I put in DOT4 instead?
  29. Check engine light comes on, but car runs fine

If I were you, I would check all hoses for vacuum leaks, especially the hoses that come off the throttle body and go to all the emissions stuff. That's a place to start. There is a solenoid with vacuum lines to it that raises the fuel pressure to help with cold starts. It's possible this...
  30. Put my car on a lift- found disturbing news

Well laser, you were right, my master cylinder is leaking too. I just got done replacing the slave, that was pretty easy. How hard is replacing the master cylinder compared to the slave? Any tips/advice? Don't know where to start on this one.
  31. Do It Your self Thermal coating? -anything stick?

Wow, that looks really good andy. Did you prep the manifold at all or did you just spray right onto the rust?
  32. Put my car on a lift- found disturbing news

Thanks for the responses so far guys. The steering also has a bit of slop in it, I'm pretty sure its not from a bad alignment, but again I could be wrong. I'll check for slop when I get to a friend's house, he has a lift. No, it's not lowered.
  33. Put my car on a lift- found disturbing news

Thanks for the responses so far guys!I'm talking about the two tie rods on the ends of the rack. One on the driver's side, and one on the passenger's side. Where are the other ones?
  34. Put my car on a lift- found disturbing news

I put my car on a lift to see what was causing my steering wheel to pull randomly when I go over bumps. I found 3 problems:1. Steering rack is leaking. It's a slow leak, so I'm not worried about that, but could this indicate that the rack is worn, and loose? Could this cause the steering...
  35. replace timing belt now runs rougf

Just a quick question- If the cams were set a tooth or so off, wouldn't the compression be a bit lower than normal?
  36. How far can a 1g MAS take you?

Has anyone actually reached the limits of a 1g mas?
  37. Sealant to put over paint scratches?

Okay, that actually sounds like a better idea anyways. Where's a good place to get touch up paint?
  38. Sealant to put over paint scratches?

I have a few spots of rust on my car that I'm planning to scrape off. I won't be painting it just yet, so I'm looking for some kind of clear sealant to put over it so it doesn't start to rust again.I seem to remember there being some kind of sealant that you are supposed to put on scratches...
  39. How far can a 1g MAS take you?

I am planning a budget build up of my 1g and am wondering how much power a 1g MAS can handle before it starts becoming a problem.
  40. Fans hitting under acceleration

^^^ Didn't think of that. I thought when he meant "fans hitting something" he was talking about the fan shroud knocking up against something. Is there any loss of excelleration when this is happening?
  41. Fans hitting under acceleration

^^^No no no to that post above. You have some kind of detonation problems. If it only happens under boost, that should tell you somthing. Your engine isn't going to fall apart (unless you keep boosting like it is) Your turbo is likely fine, but you need to do a boost leak check first and...
  42. Where to get silicone coolant/oil hoses?

Some of the lines that run to the turbo are metal with small sections of rubber hose. I haven't looked close enough to see if they are oil or coolant but I think they might be both. Those and the heater hoses are what I'm most interested in replacing, as they are starting to get soft and...
  43. Where to get silicone coolant/oil hoses?

Thanks for the link. They have a good selection of vacuum hoses, but it doesn't say anything about coolant or oil lines. I guess oil lines shouldn't be made of silicone, I think it might eat it away or something.Anyone know where to get stock replacement heater hoses?
  44. Where to get silicone coolant/oil hoses?

The oil and coolant hoses running to my turbo are looking pretty bad, I was wondering if anyone made some silicone hoses about the same size. Also, I'll probably be replacing my heater hoses and a bunch of vacuum lines. Anyone know a good place to get silicone hoses for these purposes? Thanks!
  45. Prokit- rear camber issues?

Hi, I've got a 1g AWD and I'm thinking about putting on some eibach prokits. With the 1" or so drop, will I be able to adjust the rear camber back to spec, or will I need to buy those ingallis adjuster things?Anyone with a 1g AWD have prokits?
  46. Should timing belt be completely dry?

^^^ I did, but thanks for the advice
  47. Should timing belt be completely dry?

I looked closer at the belt, and it is dry except for the very edges of the belt. The valve cover was leaking all around, even though the previous owner put a new valve cover gasket in. The valve cover bolts weren't very tight (I know its aluminum) so I tightened them a bit more and it seems...
  48. Putting stock fuel pump back in car- questions

I was just wondering, wasn't seriously going to rely on it. I'll just run stock boost with the stocker, and maybe rewire it while I'm at it, just for an extra margin of safety.I'll decide what to do with the mystery pump once I figure out what it is. So you say if the pump is a walbo it will...
  49. Putting stock fuel pump back in car- questions

^^^ Okay, I won't =)Thanks for the advice!Edit: Wait, won't it reach fuel cut before it hurts the engine? ;) I don't plan on doing any tuning mods so the factory fuel cut should save my ass if I decide to push the motor too far, right?
  50. Putting stock fuel pump back in car- questions

Thanks for the advice guys. I probably will just rewire the stocker. The most boost I would probably ever run is 17-18psi on the 14b. A stock fuel pump rewired should be able to handle that with no problems, right? If I ever decide to make more power, I can always put the mystery pump back...
