Here's the pics of the engine being installed. My best friend came over one night after work to help put it in. It was a late night because the motor mounts were a pain to line up but I had a big smile on my face at the end of it :)The valve cover was a lender from a friend and still on...
Someone e-mailed me about how the dash was done so I'm going to post their question and my response so everyone can view it.Im pretty interested in how you restored your dash. If you have time, would you be able to post up a link/procedure with some feedback with how you did it?Ive...
This section is to show how I fixed the trunk. I'm going to post the original picture of what it looked like. For some reason the previous owner bashed in where the spare tire would have went and there were holes in that area also. I'll try and find some pictures of the inside of the car...
I remember doing this conversion back in 05' Do yourself a favor and find a good turbo engine harness. To do the swap correctly to make it run you're going to have to rewire the injector resistor pack in, an extra wire to the Maf, and wire for the knock sensor. I hate hacking up harnesses...
Here's some shots of the engine bay being taken apart. You can see the terrible job the previous owner did with trying to repaint it black. I power washed the engine bay, then sanded it down to get all the loose flakes off and smooth. Cleaned it and used Por-15 semi-gloss black for 2 coats...
I wouldn't do the kyb agx's. The fronts are known to blow out on DSM's. I still
Have a lot of photos to upload to catch up to where I'm at currently. The pictures will get better once I start showing the body/engine bay again. The motor fully assembled is gorgeous :) I've been so busy lately...
Suspension time. Car came originally with KYB AGX's with lowering springs. Ended up selling those and found out the front struts were blown  Ended up picking up a real nice set of Drummond Motor Sport coil overs originally for an early EVO. The rear coil overs had adapter CNC...
Here's an update on the fuel system. This car is going to be running E85 so I did my best to piece together a system that will hold up to it. I picked up a 1g sumped fuel tank awhile back brought it to a local place that cleans/boils them out and seals the inside. The claim that the coat used...
I did all of the following
- Poly bushings in the front and rear
- Driveshaft carrier bushings are CNC aluminum
- Jay Racing rear toe active elimination
- Rear Suspension Techniques sway bar
- Endlinks with poly bushings
- All new ball joints front and rear
- Front wheel bearings were...
Process of the valve cover. Removed the baffles to have 2 -10AN bungs welded on. Then had a new baffle kit welded in. Epoxied/JB Welded around the welds to clean them up and then cleaned/primed/painted the cover.Painted blackWet SandedFinal Product...
The dash I cleaned up with a simply spray cleaner like 409. I cut away any loose pieces of the foam from the vinyl. Then I sprayed a little water on the area I wanted to glue down. Took the gorilla glue next and did my best to let it run down evenly behind the peeled up vinyl. Then I took a...
Thanks guys. I'm still trying to piece all the pictures I have together. I wish I could post more than 20 in one post :| It's probably going to take me atleast a week of posting to catch up to where I'm at. Anyways here's some more updatesThis should be the last of the pics for the...
The dash was completed probably over a year and half ago. Currently it sits in my basement away from peoples hands haha. Oddly it was the first thing I tackled after I stripped the whole car down. I have to have 20+ hours into it, working on it here and there after work. The paints are all...
This section I'm going to update on the Transmission and Drivetrain stuff.
Since the transmission was rebuilt already on this car I decided to freshen it up. I did the Translab shift kit to the valvebody. I opened up the drain back hole on the pump to 1/4" to help against blowing out the...
I don't even know where to begin since there's so many different areas that I've tackled. I guess I can post up with how the dash finished coming out.Lots of masking/priming/paintingI can finally secure the instrument cluster now
:wink:And this was a cool...
That was just the dash stuff I've been working on. The other main thing I've been doing is cleaning the subframes and control arms and than painting them. They didn't stay that glossy when they dried. . . even though some other coats stayed glossy if I went over it again in some...
I started to sand blast some stuff. I gotta pick up some better sand. It's really cool. I can't wait to see the whole underside after it's all said and done. Some more little updates. I've been working on the car here and there after work and a little on my days off. The most...
It's been awhile. Just too busy with work and lacking motivation. I've felt motivated the past week and got a bunch more off the car. As it stands now it's a chassis on jack stands :DI'm gonna clean up the underside and undercoat the whole car. I'm getting a hold of a sand blaster and...
I'm finally sitting down and starting my Build Journal. The car will be street driven along with being brought to the track to be raced. This is currently the 4th DSM I've owned
1st- 92 Eclipse GS 4G63 N/A
2nd - 93 Eclipse GS 4G63 N/A (Converted to Turbo back in 2005)
3rd - 1990 Eagle Talon...
Same here the bolt kit was incorrect. I ended up reusing the original rear motor mount that had a poly bushing in it when I bought the car. It's probably going to be a pain when I put the transmission mount in. I was thinking of slotting the bracket that bolts down to the transmission and...
Same here extreme psi nor Avid resolved the issue. So the tranny one bolted right up? You didn't have to fanagle or push the tranny downward slightly to get the bolt to pass thru?
I just noticed that you have AVID motor mounts. Did you have issues with the rear and tranny mount. Both were wrong in my kit when I got them. The hole location on the transmission side is positioned lower and the rear mount I sold all together because it was the wrong height and bolt pattern...
I have no issues seeing more positive caster on the passenger side. But 2 degrees is a little excessive and something is def not properly in spec. These cars don' call for much higher caster on the right side. If you aren't feeling a pull or drift then I wouldn't worry about it
I hear ya, Only other thing that would effect camber and not too much the caster would be the lower control arm or the the knuckle like I mentioned earlier. I have a few thousand alignments done under my belt and I've seen plenty of cars that needed knuckles changed and the cars went right...
I'm not saying any of the Information is wrong here and there is a lot of valuable information talked about currently. You said the ingalls kit fixed your camber. . . . You said initially the camber was -1.1* What did you correct it to after the kit? If every part in a car is straight(not...
I'm not certain about 2g's but I did bend the knuckle in my 1990 talon when I slid on ice an the wheel clanked the curb :-/ I've seen many different style knuckles from all different makes and models bend. The Titan is some sort of cast steel iron looking. The arm where the tie rod attaches to...
Nice thread to read for the 2g guys! It doesn't take much for a knuckle to become bent. I've seen over a dozen bent knuckles come through my shop. My buddies Nissan Titan bent a knuckle just by hitting a road sign :-O
I'm with craig4g63, I also installed the Jay racing relocation kit on my car and didn't have to modify much to make it work. I followed the factory instructions and just ground down the mount that bolts to the block so the belt doesn't rub.J_HEATH your car is looking awesome. I think I may...
It's so hard to tell honestly. All it takes is a slight bend to throw camber or caster out. It's almost impossible to see visually. How bad was your camber. Usually cam bolt kits are used to fixed a slight variance or to put the angle to a desired setting. If it was out a great deal and you...
From what I looked up on specs, technically the car is still within tolerance. My personal feeling on this since I'm an alignment specialist is that the Caster is too far forward on the right side. Most likely the caster will go out on these cars due to a bent control arm or spindle. I'm sure...
That is really impressive! Can't wait to have my car back on the road. Eventually I'll be running the hx40 Pro when the time comes. I'm even more dazzled that you kept the stock 1gb Talon body kit on. That thing weighs a ton compared to the other body kits of the 1g's. The only thing that...
That's some awesome times. Very nice set up. Gives me hope on my new build which is an Auto. I'm surprised they were breaking your balls about the scattershield. One of the guys in my club has an auto 97 GSX and he runs mid 9's with no shield and never gets harassed by the techs. . . weird :-/
Like everyone is stating, Dyno's are a tool for measurement so you can see changes. Most dyno's out there have the same ability users have with ECMLink. All they do is change the gear ratio and it'll change the HP number shown. You have to watch out for some shops though. I've seen them...
I would assume so. The TCU is what controls the transmissions shift points. I used an AUTO ecu in a M/T and it worked so I don't see why it wouldn't vice versa. The only difference is timing maps between M/T and AUTO.
Do you haven any experience with these cars/motors or doing timing belts at all? If not, then I suggest bringing it somewhere or have someone who has experience help you. From the point that you're at you will need to continue pulling it the rest of the way apart. All the pulleys need to...
Curious to bring this back from the dead. Only reason i'm asking is because I'm building another motor now and it's been a few years. I went on JNZ's website and put in MD129347 and it came up withCONDITIONAL INTERCHANGE [New Part# MD129347]All the other part numbers come up withCASE...
Wow, your car came out mint. I'm deff bookmarking this page for reference. You're lucky that they allow you to buy 100LL. I was planning on going that route a few years ago when I worked at the airport. Technically where I worked they can't sell 100LL unless you have a registered aircraft...
