Ok "MBC" is a Manual Boost Controller and basically it's a way to manipulate the wastegate. With this installed you can control how much boost you want to generate. May I suggest that you install a reputable aftermarket boost gauge before considering a MBC. The stock boost gauge only...
Need some input here on what my next suspension upgrade should be. 1st of all the car will be strictly street driven, albeit it will see a lot of spirited driving :-D with that being said I already have the Eibach 1in drop. I've also added Monroe front and rear struts/shocks (cheap I know, but...
Actually the 1G responds very well to modifications; Some free mods can include removing the silencer off the MAS. You can also remove the lower honey comb (the smaller of the two) to lean out the mixture just a bit. Another mod that will allow your turbo car to breath easier would be to hack...
From experience an idle flux is usually caused by the BISS screw. Replace the O-ring then re-set the idle using the istructions on www.clubdsm.org; Make sure you follow the instructions as you must ground the ECU to properly set the idle.Extreme
It's ironic but I also have a 90 Eclipse and my sunroof is one loud mofo. I've notice that the best cure for it is just to keep the hinges oiled. Hope this helps.Danny
Ok on the 1G's the stock boost setting is 11psi, on the 2G's the boost is set to 14.5. Keep in mind that you may not see the whole 14.5 on the 2G's due to the leaking BOV. My suggestion is to replace the stock 2G plastic BOV with a metal one from a 1G. Lastly, you will normally see 8-10...
Hmmm mine is a 1990 model with ABS, does anyone know if the 1990's had either of the two options, or if it had both? Also is there not a way to tell by looking at the vehicle's vin number?Extreme
I too enjoy hearing the turbo spool, I noticed the most volume after hacking the air can. I was amazed of how much louder the turbo noises where after hacking the air can. Hope this helps.Extreme
I'm interested in the 2.25 modded SMIC on the www.indyracecores.com link. Anyone know what the benefits to this would be? I am just not happy with how small the stock tanks are ~1.75. IMO it just seems like it would relieve a huge restriction.Extreme
Basically a 2 1/2 DP and 2 1/2 testpipe or high flow cat will help minimize the chances of boost creep. Boost creep occurs when the wastegate cannot dump all of the intake pressure. This is common with upgraded turbos, especially with upgraded downpipes - the exhaust would rather flow through...
I have a similar problem with missing/popping at WOT. I have already replaced the wires (Accel thundersport) and the plugs (NGK BPR6ES) have less than 3K on them. I am leaning towards an ignition coil problem. Will let you know if I ever get around to replacing them.Extreme
I have to agree.. go with a Joe-P I've heard good things about it and can be had for ~$50. Also do replace the factory 2G BOV, I would look into a 1G type. You can pick up a 1G BOV for about the same price as the Boost Controller $50 off the trader. A fuel pump is not needed at this point...
I would start to work on the exhaust. Installing a cat-back yielded the biggest gains in performance for me. Start with a cat-back..definitely go with 3in and then move to a 2 1/2 test pipe or high flow cat follwed by a 2 1/2 dp. This setup will give you the best performance while minimizing...
Totally agree with the coolant bypass mod... it is defenitely not worth the time and effort. The EGR block off plate did make a noticeable improvement though. Did you already remove the plastic ring on the boost solenoid?Extreme
okay.. ticking - possibly lifters, what type of oil filter are you using? Some filters are more prone to causing lifter tick. Shaking may be cuase by bad motor mounts and, or timing. Of course if the ticking is more of a loud clanking noise coming from the rear of the engine it will be your...
I've actually overheated my 90 GSX a few times, but I've always been able to catch it before doing any serious damage. One time it was a bad thermostat, and the others was a lose radiator hose. From experience I can tell you that these cars are really resilient to over heating. I personally...
Actually JDMAWD that made a lot of sense... thanks for the info for I had a similar question. How would an AFC aid in making sure you have the correct A/F ratio between shifts?Extreme
I'm considering the best pump for my application. I am leaning towards a walbro 190lph. I have heard that a walbro 255hp requires that you upgrade the Fuel Pressure Regulator is this true? Also would the 255hp cause my car to run overly rich, hence lose power? Keep in mind that I dont have an...
My suggestion would be to do a compression test on the cylinders. It's very easy to do, and might point you in the right direction. Checking the compression is as easy and removing the plug from the cylinder and screwing in the fitted gauge. Keep us informed of any findings.Extreme
Actually if you do a search on the net you will find some after market radiators for as low as $110. That is not bad, considering the OEM has plastic top and bottom tanks were as the after market uses metal. I had two OEM plastic radiators crack on me, only one on my DSM. Point is the...
I am planning a brake job in the near future for my 1G AWD. Should I resurface the rotors even if I don't experience vibration while braking? Also anyone know if the pistons on the caliper need to be screwed in? or can I just use a c-clamp to compress the pistons? please keep in mind this is...
Need help here - I am getting some kind of ticking/tapping sound coming from the rear brakes. The noise goes away if I lightly tap on the brake pad, or slightly raise the emergency brake lever. Has anyone ever experienced this? I am planning on doing a basic brake job, but not sure if it will...
