seems easier to get a v8, less rotating mass and friction. How would you connect the shafts together? and what about timing? would you keep DOHC? how would you balance all these rotating masses?

How did you cut the air can? This makes a huge diff in what the deal is with you car. GET an air/fuel meter they are about 50$ or so and easy to install your self. You could be causeing all sorts of havoc and you wouldn't know without one. There are many more gauges and stuff you need to tune...
