The injectors are pulsing so they click (they open for a few millaseconds).
Usually isn't very loud at all.
What I am guessing it is probably lifter tick.

I would guess that it is just the injectors.
I wouldn't worry I know alot of people with noisy injectors.
Or most likely it is lifter tick, which is normal for our style of lifters.
I wouldn't lose sleep over it. ;)
Yes I also have a bad problem with spikeing.
When I installed (correctly, I triple checked) the mbc and set it good (the lowest setting, again triple checked) it boosted up to close to 20 psi on a
2g gen tsi fwd automatic
2.5 inch turbo back exaust w/o kitty(catilitic converter)
ebay open...
From what I get from the article I think you have to let off the gas to shift but you don't have to use the clutch. I don't think that the first gear is that tall, ya 60 in first gear but that is at 9000 rpm so I think that it might be somewhat streetable if you have a good clutch. Heck I know...
Start with the simple stuff (kiss method) like....
See if you knocked off a wheel weight on that last monster of a pothole, and you might want to check the lower tie rods, because some have troubles.
