  1. Ideal surge tank design for DSM road racing

See, that's what I planned to do. I've done it before on my brother's old '87 Corolla when we did an SR-5 to GT-S conversion (had to replace the fuel pump and patch up some pinhole leaks in the gas tank while we were at it) and it was relatively easy. My old man's pretty handy with a welding...
  2. Ideal surge tank design for DSM road racing

Wow. This must be my first post in ~4+ years or so. I've been lurking my subscribed threads (circa 2007-2008), and it's great to be back ... !Anyhow, I like the 034 Motorsports surge tank idea. Placing it where the battery tray used to be on my car sounds like a good solution. I was originally...
  3. 1G Offset for 17x9 1g Talon

I have been in contact with PerformancePlus Tire out in California, and found this:TEAM DYNAMICS WHEELS PRO RACE 1.2 [MATT BLACK] - Wheels and Rims from Performance Plus Tire17x9+27/5x114.3 PCD/67.1mm bore is not listed, but I was told they can get such sizing at the same price of...
  4. 1G Offset for 17x9 1g Talon

With the fenders rolled, would you say there's room to grow, with a wider width tire and/or wheel? Say, a 265/40 on a 9.5" wide wheel, or a 265/40 on your 9" TDs. It looks like you're running Bridgestone RE01Rs, and they look somewhat stretched.
  5. 1G Offset for 17x9 1g Talon

Writing off the shell is the last thing I'd need. Rolling the rear fenders looks pretty hard since there's a weld right underneath the lip. Did you use a fender roller? I assume you ground the pinch weld on the trailing arm, too. Any tips?
  6. 1G Offset for 17x9 1g Talon

They do. :cool:Looks like you had to roll/pull your fenders out back though, or is that just an illusion?
  7. 1G Offset for 17x9 1g Talon

If we get enough interested parties together, maybe we can twist their arm a little. :sneaky:They're honestly not *that* expensive, street prices appear to be equivalent to similar-sized Enkei RPF1s, 5Zigen FN01R-Cs, Kosei K1s, and other spun/pressure cast wheels. I just can't find any other...
  8. 1G Offset for 17x9 1g Talon

Ugh, there was a recent group buy for the Team Dynamics? :ohdamn: Serves me right for not having posted on this forum in ~3 years ... Any word on another one?
  9. Clutch disengagement problems ...

That's the thing, the assembly was taken out and that pesky hole had a nut welded to it (or whatever thing wears in there) about 4 years ago. The car's only done about 20000 miles since then. However, I am heavy on the clutch (I road race and autocross the car alot - lots of shifting), I...
  10. Clutch disengagement problems ...

Well, it's been quite a long time since I posted here, but here goes.I've got a 6 bolt AWD that has clutch disengagement problems. Never used to have any problems of any sort on my stock flywheel/exedy replacement clutch. I now have a Fidanza flywheel and an RPS Turbo MAX clutch. So the...
  11. Oil on top of piston after rebuild

Oh God, I've been having the same issue with my build.Did you have excessive oil just completely pouring out of the exhaust ports? It leaks so bad that it just oozes out between the O^2 housing and the downpipe and leaves a big puddle of sooty oil underneath the car. I thought it was the...
  12. N/T Tach into GS-T/GS-X Cluster?

Sweet. I shall give this a try. NA DSMs are dime-a-dozen at the boneyards here. I have a few light bulbs that need to replaced on mine anyway ...
  13. bearing oil clearence

I got around .0015 or so mains and rods.Plastigauge isn't exactly very accurate ...
  14. DSMtuners Sponsorship event #4 Oct. 1st, 2006

You really need to make it out to Rt. 66 for some events, Kyle. You get at least 10 seconds of more cone dodging fun. :DAnd I know how you feel, but your car looks pretty poised to take a win! I remember the last time I went to Rt.66 (which was a year ago  ) I got 1 DNF and a MONSTER...
  15. -6 AN Turbo Oil Feed line too big for B16G?

As the title states, I have a few lengths of -6 AN line laying around the house.I ordered a 12mm banjo and a 3/8 to -6 AN 90* elbow for the oil filter housing. Is a -6 AN line too big to use as a turbo oil feed? Should I use a smaller -4 line instead? It should be noted that I am also...
  16. Lower valve spring seat conflicting with ARP head stud nut

Well, I got that one nut in.The head tends to shift about a little on the studs, so all I did was shift the head over to the right (probably about 1mm). Cleared the spring seat.I just lifted that end of the head a little higher than the other one and it went in. I threaded it just enough to...
  17. Check out the metal shavings in my oil pan

I had shavings like that in my oil pan when I replaced it.Turns out my front balance shaft bearings had a few craters on them, and a few light spider cracks around the races. And here's what my crank bearings looked like:
  18. Lower valve spring seat conflicting with ARP head stud nut

I'm using the HKS Ti valve springs.I wasn't aware ARP sold smaller nuts to clear. Do I just call them and ask for those, or can I do an exchange, or something?I was thinking about lifting the head off again to maneuver the nut in there, then screw in a few threads before putting the head...
  19. Lower valve spring seat conflicting with ARP head stud nut

Is this normal? WTF I'm guessing the only solution is to take a grinder to the outside rim of ARP nuts so they can clear ...Here's a few pictures. As you can see here, the lower spring seat is in the way of the nut. There were a couple close calls, but I think this one is the only one...
  20. Evo Carnage at AMS Track day

Damn, they have another event at autobahn sometime soon?Sounds like a good time to break the motor in. :DAnd I'll definitely be looking for the DSMs at R.America. :)
  21. Evo Carnage at AMS Track day

Hopefully I'll be there too for some HPDE1 action. :D
  22. Evo Carnage at AMS Track day

I wonder how many open-track events there are left in the IA/IL/WI/IN area before the snow falls ...I know damn sure I'm going to the one at Road America. I think it's an HPDE too. Isn't it on the 27th or something like that?
  23. Greg Collier DSM Tuners Sponsorship Cal Speedway

Damn dude, looks like you were really tearin' it up out there. Sucks you had to pit in! :(So have you figured out what punched those holes in your transfer case? Kind of sounds like road debris, unless something the x-fer case gave out. This is why I opted to have an extra one in the...
  24. Evo Carnage at AMS Track day

Holy crap, it looks like the mysterious red mist befell the track. WTFI would have been there if I didn't have this disease called Pre-Law that eats up your life. :cry:And I still don't have my motor done. :notgood:Sounds like one hell of a time. In a bad way. There was no...
  25. Getting Ready for the 2006 Race Season...................

Well, I know about the porting of the relief valve (gonna do that today), but what I was really concerned about was lateral loads moving the oil pump driven gear around with the stub shaft around during cornering.
  26. Getting Ready for the 2006 Race Season...................

 Are you serious? I just picked up a BSEK from AMS two weeks ago and all I got were three bearings, a stub shaft and a freeze plug to cover up the hole where the front balance shaft used to sit. I also ponied up for the balance shaft crank pulley eliminator.I've heard of people...
  27. diffusers, canards, and wings

Looks awesome Kyle. :thumb:Sounds like something to keep me busy in the winter. :)
  28. diffusers, canards, and wings

The RRE car's NACA ducts are what I was going to do (or could still do, if I change my mind) for an extra shot of air to my oil cooler I have sitting in the garage. I decided to move my foglights about 2" up from the ducts they sit in to accomodate my oil cooler, which I'm positioning like...

Wow, sorry to hear of your misfortunes. Sounds like you had a hell of a time. WTFAnd thanks for the advice, lol ... I'll be sure to use loctite on everything I bolt onto the block. :DBut it sounds like the track session wasn't as bad. At least it sounded like fun, anyway. Hope your...

  33. Archer Bros. Racing Talon Resurrection

Hahahaha, tired of anwering questions, eh? :pNormal's not too far, school permitting, I'll make it out there. Can't wait to see it.
  34. Archer Bros. Racing Talon Resurrection

Nice! I've only seen and read about those cars in books. :thumb:I've actually been quite curious as to the way the rollcage is setup in those cars. I've read that the Archer bros. positioned the cage as close to the body as possible to increase rigidity, and even trimmed some of the...
  35. ludachris and his flares...

  36. S2000 Cluster and Evo Wheel Installed!

  37. Rally Video

One time, I clipped my buddy's basketball pole backing up, and ripped off my driver's side mirror. I DID scratch the hell out of my car. :rolleyes:Dammit, I wish I had some kind of beater Civic to go rallying ... OR at least have some rally-x events around the chicagoland area for me to go...
  38. Monster at Road Atlanta

Oh, trust me, there's more than enough competition for me. :|I usually hang out at the Rt.66 Raceway events. It's a huge place, so they often make it pretty fast. :rocks: If I do things right, I'm bouncing the tach in 2nd.
  39. Monster at Road Atlanta

They have Street Tire class, which I'm in.Street Tire Street Modified is like a sub-group that's grouped into Street Tire. Dunno about Road Racing, though ... I really need to make it out to the AMS track meet at Autobahn since I haven't seen a lick of track time this season due to my motor...
  40. Rally Video

WTF Holy hell they need to get WRC back on SPEED.WRC/Rally drivers are the best in the world because of the amount of variables they have to negotiate. My dad used to crew for rally teams back in the Philippines as a field wrench. My uncle was usually the driver and whenever he'd come...
  41. Monster at Road Atlanta

  43. The JE Piston thread

Yeah, I just got the block back last week and it's been sitting here for now (waiting on a new set of JE rings, ARP studs and Clevite Main Bearings)..0033 is even less than what JE recommends! WTF What kind of setup did you run?And yeah, I plan to do a nice, long break in with my motor...
  44. importance of the gasket between block and front engine/oil pump case. ???

Hey, I got a spare one laying around if you want ... PM me for details. Let's just say it won't be very expensive. :D

  47. Bearing devistaion and crankwalk

Ouch ... My oil pump housing kinda looks like that too.Machine shop beadblasted my head and didn't flush it out. WTF And my cam bearing caps were torqued to 55 ft/lbs ... My cam journals are scored and so are my cam journal saddles on the head. I don't know if I'll have to get a new front...
  48. The JE Piston thread

I just got off the phone with Tim from Custom Engine and he tells me he's going to run the piston/wall clearance at .0040. Seems pretty interesting to me that he'd run them close, but I mentioned that I was going to be running 23-24 PSI max on the motor. As I previously stated from other...
  49. The JE Piston thread

Oh? How so? If it's got something to do with the ECU I assume it can be tuned out ... I'm running a Greddy e-Manage as of the moment.I plan to do the standard 500 mile babying at 6-8 PSI, then another 500 miles of turning the boost up to 12 PSI, and another 500 miles at 18-20 PSI.That...
