Has anyone tried putting an aftermarket a/t shifter in their 1g? A shifter like the Hurst promatic or something like that?

Does anyone know if the 1.8 and 2.0l 5spd tranny is the same? I found they have the same tranny code. I need to know if the 1.8 trans will bolt up to a 2.0l and use the flywheel and clutch from the 2.0. This is referring to 1g's of course.
