  1. timing belt/water pump install question

copy along here http://www.vfaq.com/mods/timingbelt-2G.html. The first time will be knida of a pain. but after that it only gets easier. It takes quiet a bit longer to do the balance belt but you got to. Trust me from experience about balance belt failure and what can happen. :(
  2. low idle/stall out in neutral

Could be the idle speed switch. I had a problem with the throttle not completely closing and grounding out the switch. 2nuts and 1 minute later I was back in buisness. I would definately check that and some of the other ideas from the VFAQ before I went and paid someone else to find what will...
  3. Brittle Vacume Lines

Well sounds like they were do anyway. It always seems to be that way when 1 goes they all start to leak :( Good news its a cheap easy fix and replacing all the vaccum lines can cure alot of problems you did'nt even know you had.Russ
  4. Clutch or tranny??!

Yep definately sounds like a slave cylinder problem.Russ
  5. boost spiking

I have had a hallman on a couple of different cars and before i got the 02 hsing ported and the wastegate as well I would spike a couple of pounds. It is a very common issue . I would'nt about it to much it is spikes to a pound or two higher then settles back down thats no big deal. When it...
  6. problems with laser

Hmmm could be the MAF senser (the wire that you unplugged by the airfilter) If memory serves me correctly the car would go into limp mode (it would run but badly) if the MAF went out. The idle speed switch is probably the one you disconnected by the throttle body. Sounds like it is working...
  7. What Size Wastegate for a 20G

35mm is fine for a 20G I have a friend of mune running just fine with one. I have have 40mm but only because I got a good deal on it.Russ
  8. Air/fuel gauge

Agree with Wang. :) But on a side note... or the real question. It is easier to tune with an EGT. But AF meters have there place as well I like the Autometer phantoms there cheap there fairly accurate and super easy to hook up 1 wire from the ecu positive and ground and your all set. Yes it...
  9. Replacing Clutch?

Sounds like your clutch is going not the throwout. The first time I changed the clutch I looked daunting. If you follow the FAQ its not all that bad. Much easies to get out than in. now i have done a bunch of times and its cake. 1 neat trick I was told and it worked great was when putting the...
  10. what should do next?

Exhaust catback, Boost gauge, Turbotimer ?(personally I always let the car idle anyway after I race, only time its really needed so, none for me) Manual boost controller, Fuel pump .
  11. Nothing but problems

Hmmm it sounds like kinda funny. could be something in the tank like the grond wire or something. If that was the case both the fuel pump and the sending unit in the tank would not work correctly. I would try and listen for the fuel pump first. then pull the line off and see ift's got pressure...
  12. low idle...

Okk your idle should be around 700 if it was at 1100 something was a miss, could have had a vaccum leak that's you kinda fixed by accident when you installed the boost gauge. stock type NGK -BPR7ES best plugs. I live in florida and have a pretty heavily modded DSM. They work great. Wires, you...
  13. Auto Or 5 Speed

I agree about the 5 speed being the only one to have. There all I have. Course its not ALLL about fun there is also the higher gas mileage you get as well as the power with the 5 speed. But the 5 speeds you have to worry about clutches and other broken driveline parts if you start modding the...
  14. Downpipe back 3" exhaust

If they are hooking up a 3" to a stock DP they are doing a serious neck down after the DP. Not that hard but the stock DP will defiantely be holding you up. Like the post before I recomend these guys there are ALOT of DSM's that go to the guys for exhaust. They do good work and are not to crazy...
  15. Best exhaust

Well I think thermal makes the best Exhaust for any import. Not sure if the sell them for N/T or not but give them a shot. http://www.certifiedmuffler.com/Russ
  16. 1g Wheels and Tires Size Questions [merged]fit fitment

A 225/55/16 would be taller than your original tire. I would go with the 50's instead of a 55's it will be to tall in that width. 225/50/16 look nice and still ride real good. Remember 50% of 225 is the sidewall height versus your 55% of 205. 55% of 225 would be to tall.Russ
  17. Manual or electronic

Manual all the way. Most of the fastest DSM's run manual. Save the money and use it elsewhere. Hallman, Extreme all have good one's. People running 8's with under 50.00 Hallman. I would rather have to get out of the car to adjust the boost anyway's. Gives yo a moment of pause before you go...
  18. Best year 1st gen, 1st or 2nd cant deside

I agree with PIMP I like the 1g's better. Just depends if you like the ricer look or not I guess. Still it's not all about looks no crankwalk, Bigger injecters and turbo all the expensive stuff.Russ
  19. 1G My clutch is gone

They do not have a whole lot of holding power especially if it's an AWD. I had a mid 12'sec one and blew through it in a month. Personally I like the Centerforce dual friction better than both of them unless you are running 11's or better 2600's are very strong but hard on the drivetrain (not to...
  20. Some help for a DSM Newb!

Shoot if it just needs a head gasket that seems like a GREAT deal. Just follow the FAQ on replacing the headgasket. Just remember to take the intake off with the head, Much easier. I would upgrade to a good 4 layer one from the factory a little more expensive. I think like 65$ from FT, Meyers...
  21. Boost Guage

Autometer is probably the best for the money. Other very good gauges are from SPI , Greddy and DEFI (very neat but steep $). Lotek makes good pods for the a pillar I have used them on several vehicles and they are great specially for the funds. http://www.gaugepods.com/Russ
